Help [FFX] Negative On The AP

I just started playing FF X and I'm at the spot where I first meet Waka. For some reason, after battles I'm receiving 0 AP. Am I doing something wrong?

The only thing that gives NO AP as far as I know is the Celestial weapons when they aren’t at full power. You said you are in the beginning; therefore, it is impossible for you to have a celestial weapon right now. Did you mash X after every battle to make it look like you earned zero AP? That is the only thing that is likely wrong here. The result screen moves very fast in FFX.

Characters that do not attack do not receive AP. Make sure everyone attacks if you want them all to receive points.
