There has been a lot of controversy on 60+ year old women taking IVF treatment to become pregnant. The oldest I think was 67.

Do you agree with women this old having kids?

I disagree with it myself as the child is probably going to end up motherless by the time the kid is in his/her teens. And the mother might be too old to look after the child properly... However, it is the choice of the mothers and I feel I should here more opinions about this.

What are your thoughts?

Honestly I don't agree with it at all, there are so many complications that a woman that age could have with the pregnancy and delivery first of all, endangering her own life (which would obviously make the child motherless), and having a parent that old when the kid starts walking around and stuff...I mean...I don't even want to imagine my mother being 80+ when I was only in my early teens.

I don't feel sympathy for these women at all, there are other ways these women could have raised kids when they were far younger. Adopting a child when they were at least 20 years younger is a far less stupid thing to do.

Sorry, but if your biological urges are that strong, that they make you do something as retarded as this, you need professional help.

I agree.
Adoption is always there, so why try risking two lives instead of none?
Also, Clyde, you're right, the child could end up motherless by the time he's 8 or something....again leaving another shattered life in the process.

With that said, it seems rather selfish that older women, or women that age should even make an attempt at having a baby. It only benefits them, and only then, it is only a temporary bliss.

The age would be difficult for both the mother and the child IMO. Im sure the mother would not be able to cope with bringing up a child that late in life, mainly the body aging and being more vunerable to illness.

Hmmm I don't agree with it, but i'm going to cause abit of a devils advocate, I'd rather have an older mother that has experince in bringing up children than a younger mother that hasn't got a clue what to do?

I'm unsure of this but due to the age of the woman could the baby come out deformed or cause miscarriage?

I have heard storys though of teens ending up looking after there parents at an age of 12 missing out of school completely because there parents can't cope? But I do know there are services out there to look after the elderly...?

I'm going to toss in my opinion. I generally don't approve of IVF for elderly women, if they conceive naturally then thats another matter (It does happen).

I wouldn't condone banning IVF though for the simple reason that a woman in her 60's could theroretically have 30 years left to live, a 20 year old could die tomorrow.

Morally though, I dissaprove.
