Doctor Cidolfus Demen Bunansa: villian or anti-hero

Does anyone view Dr. Cid a actual villian or anti-hero? He does try to harness the Nephisite and does try to destroy the main characters but on the other hand, he is trying to make it so that the destiny of mankind is for mankind to decide. Which do you agree with more?

Villian. He has no interest in succeeding with giving mankind back their reign of history. He likes being in control of his fate. Balthier mentions how it was his favorite line... but he was out to become a god and to test out the nethecite for science's sake. He did it for himself and his own interests. Just because he didn't care what the Occuria wanted, doesn't mean his actions were charitable. He killed everyone at Nabudis just to test the nethecite. He was most definitely a villian. He wasn't evil, neccessarily. He wasn't out to kill people or ruin lives because he hated anyone, he was just more interested in himself.
