So I would like to know if anybody else is playing FFVIII off of their original PS disc on a US PS3? I have been experiencing freezing issues during scene transitions. The music will play to a blackened screen and nothing else will happen?

Anyways I'm at the part in Disc 3 where the gang first arrives in Esther and they all pass out on the elevator and it takes you into Laguna's dream sequence where he finally meets up with Ellone is Esther.

Can anybody find a .psv save file right AFTER this dream sequence? Or if not, would somebody know if I download FFVIII on my PS3 from the Playstation Network, if my save file will be valid even though I'd be booting the game from memory and not with the disc?

Any insight would be appreciated! :drag:

I actually had this same problem a long time ago, except it would happen right after the SeeD Field Exam conclusion. The scene where they would show the teams getting off the boat just wouldn't make it, but you would hear the music.

Now, this was with my PS1 disc and playing it on my PS1. Once I upgraded to a PS2, this problem went away. There was a very very minor scratch on the disc, but the faster PS2 laser would get past that. And I believe my last playthrough of FFVIII was with the PS1 discs on my PS3, and I still didn't have problems. But the initial issue was a scratch.

I'd say check to see if you have any large scratches. It's also possible that the Blu-ray laser is just too fast for it for some reason. You could possibly see if a friend has the 3rd disc and get past that scene, then continue along with your disc from there on out.

Yes my next resort is to borrow a disc from a friend but I'm tempted to download the game on the PSN because it's only 10.00 hehe. (even if it won't load my save file, I'd totally play the game again for like the fifth time haha)

I'm extremely frustrated because I've tried to get past that spot 4 different times but it doesn't want to work.

I don't have a PS3 so I'm not entirely sure what to say but I have heard that it's emulation isn't the greatest and that it's better to play most older games on a PS2. Don't know if it's true though, because like I said I don't have one.

Maybe you could try it in a PS2 if you had one? But your save wouldn't carry over.

I posted trying to be helpful and now I confused myself....XD

I'm not sure what your problem actually is, but i've heard VIII had some problems with PS3 compatiblity, on my PS3 VII and IX would run fine and VIII wouldn't even load the title screen.

As others have stated, it could possibly be your disk, if it's not and you're willing to buy it on PSN, do that.
If you do get it on PSN you can always transfer the game via USB to a PSP too, i've done it with all three main FF's on PSN. The only thing you have to worry about then is losing the data.

Then again, chances of that happening should be slim.

From the sounds of it, it's likely not your disc but the PS3 like others have suggested. Right now i'm playing it on a PS2 slim and i've never had such an issue and while i can't say for certain, i'm pretty sure you can't use the saves from your FFVIII disc for the FFVIII downloable version on PSN.
