But it was scrapped and was made into a memory identity crisis issue. Zack actually had nothing to do with the original story before they decided to add it to make it interesting. It would be kinda less confusing in general if they did this, but then again the game kinda rocks to be honest so who cares :D

Here is some proof of it.

The original intent.

In early drafts Cloud was meant to be more directly controlled by Sephiroth. As Sephiroth fell to his death in the Nibelheim Mako Reactor, his strong will to live would have manifested itself in Cloud as he needed a body that could move freely to bring him the Black Materia. It would be told that Cloud's memories are a phantom created by Sephiroth himself out of his emotions when he was "killed" in the Nibelheim Reactor. Cloud would later have discovered that due to the SOLDIER process, Sephiroth was directly trying to take control of him, and that Cloud's own complexes combined with Sephiroth's willpower, created his alternate persona that obscured who Cloud really was. This version was altered after the introduction of Jenova and the fleshing out of Zack Fair's story.

I think this fits for a comedic effect :D

I mean i personally think the story is unique for what it is. Even if they butchered the character in AC and CC. Atleast he had some dignity in FF7 PS1 game.

Yes, also back in this time only Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith, and Barret and Vincent existed.
Vincent was originally a detective after Cloud.
Sephiroth and Aerith were siblings until they changed it to lovers until they changed it again.
Cloud was the one that was originally going to tell aerith that sephiroth was a murderous monster but he couldn't because it'd hurt her
cloud and aerith were also the original childhood friends

thank god they changed it :lew:
