Desert Palace question

I am in the desert palace, directly after the Ark battle, and am kinda stuck. Walking down the first path going to light that first candlestick, Zidane has the exclamation point over his head, but mashing "S" (Im emulating it on a PC) won't do anything, and im wondering. Does that candlestick need to be lit to light the three torches in the upper level? Or do I NEED to light it, and if so how do i get it to light? cause if i do, i cant. I keep mashing X and nothing happens... *sigh*

hmm as I recall all the candles need to be lit at some point but from what you've said you could have a glitch in game.

It might be your game is screwed a little or something else is wrong cause I am 99% sure the candles all need to be lit.
