I love DBZ and this has always bugged me. Goku has never beaten Vegeta, and vice versa. In the saiyan saga, it's Gohan who puts Vegeta down, with the help of Krillin wielding the spirit bomb (received from Goku, who can barely move) which Gohan rebounds onto Vegeta, then Gohan transforms into the giant ape and crushes Vegeta when he cuts Gohan's tail off.

In the Buu saga, Vegeta seems to get the upper hand, though Goku is hiding the fact he can go to SSJ3.

Ofcourse, Vegeta never hits SSJ3, and in that peice of crap GT, he can only hit SSJ4 with the help of Bulma's ray thingy (why doesn't she use it on the other Z fighters aswell? Earth wouldn't be under threat ever again lol)

So, who is the better fighter (not stronger, the answer is obvious seeing as Goku always advances quicker than Vegeta)

Goku's Ki moves seem better than Vegeta's (Kamaehamaeha, Spirit Bomb, Dragon First and so on) but when it comes to toe to toe fighting, I think Vegeta is alot better.

What do you think?

Well in terms of power levels I think Goku might have a slight edge but in terms of fighting they're both even to me. Vegeta just has a unique substance to him to that always strives to get stronger than Goku but as soon as he reach that level Goku pushes towards the next level that is Goku's gift I guess.

Vegeta fight for pride and because of that he never asks for help or to be trained by anyone and learn something. While Goku fights for sport and always seeks people to train him and learns rather quickly. I do agree that Goku got some amazing ki moves but that was taught to Goku while Vegeta just trained by himself so he might be better at hand to hand but that could be debated.

I think the DBZ Movies really discounted Vegeta aswell.

Every movie he was in, he'd turn up, charge in, get battered then it's onto whoever else to carry on the fight. Return of Cooler is a classic example of this, Cooler beats the hell out of him, and Goku steps in with the Instant Transmission stopping Cooler from doing Vegeta in. The Broly movie, takes him ages to fight, and when he does, he lasts about a minute. Bojack, turns up, gets kicked in. Super Android 13, again, turns up, beats one of the androids, then gets battered by 13. Fusion Reborn, again, gets battered until he and Goku fuse. Wrath of the Dragon we hardly see him, he gets battered again.

Yea, you could tell that the movies was kinda bias towards Vegeta but that does also feeds his character and that part is that his power is insufficient to best some of the strongest people he will meet. I have to admit I only saw like four DBZ movies but in all it fed this fact that Vegeta needs to improve his strength and power to be on terms with Goku and others.

Also think of the movies as a character reenforcer and a bit of a fan service so you should expect Vegeta getting beat and Goku or someone more popular than Vegeta beats the enemy.
