Considering Art

....Oh dude. I could write you a freaking ESSAY. I hate that stupid bullshit modern art that is a blank canvas with a small mark that all these "art critics" rave is brilliant. Jackson Pollock is shit. I hate him. He was a fucking abusive alcoholic who beat his wife and cheated on her. He pissed on his cavases. He is NOT a great artist. I know that art needs to progress...but contrasting some of this modern art shit with great masters like Da Vinci or Rubens, it just sickens me.

Watch a movie called "Art School Confidential." It is a GREAT critique of this "modern art" bullshit. Like one line in the movie says...basically, whether you are a successful artist or not is based on how much ass kissing and dick sucking you do. I totally agree with that. I think that nowadays a lot of artists become "famous" or their art becomes expensive because they have a trendy gimmick, not because they are actually good at art. Assholes.

...That is the very short version of my angry art rant >_>;

So I guess you sorta share the same views as me.

So the question remains is - What is art? Is art art?

Ugh I've always hated Abstract art. There is nothing appealing about it and most abstract art seems to be complete utter bullshit to me. The fact that a painting has stripes, little marks, squares etc doesn't mean anything. Cubism seems alright to me because it does take some talent and thought to do a cubism painting.

A five year old could pick up a paint brush and paint on a canvas can do a much better job than most abstract artists.

Anyone could just paint little squares and lines and make some sappy story up saying how their life is so hard. The fact it is sold for millions is rather sicking and quite sad. It really puts people who actually have talent in art to shame.

It depends on the kind of art or genre of art you're talking about. I'm assuming that you mean the modern art that art has become nowadays...

As to that, I don't think so anymore. Though by definition, art is an expression and on the surface it seems that modern art is just the artist's expression or view about the world and how fast-paced everything is and how chaotic everything is. I call bullcrapz. :monster:

After reading Erythritol's response, I can't help but agree that it's all about sucking up and making your way through connections. :wacky:
