So how many of you have played this wondrous game? It's freeware, but still manages to be one of the best games ever created. Even compared to commercial games it's gold.
At first glance, it doesn't seem that special. It's a simple 2d sidescroller and could probably have been made for the snes (except for the sound quality, and a few other things I'm sure.) Play it for a little while, though, and you're sure to be addicted. The creator, who calls himself pixel, spent five years perfecting the game. The controls are fluent and natural, and nothing about the game is ever buggy in the least. It makes you wonder how awesome more technologically advanced games might have been if their creators had all the time in the world to perfect it, and no money influence. Like I said, it's freeware and Pixel has even refused money that's been offered to him. He's even encouraged people to make homebrews for it. (I think the psp homebrew was the only one that ever got going.)
The gameplay consists of oldschool 2d sidescrolling shooter type action, probably inspired by games like metroid. Your weapons can increase in power by collecting the experience that enemies drop in the form of little yellow shapes. But watch out! get hit and the experience for your current weapon will drop. The game is fairly short, and can be beaten in a single night if you sat down long enough. The replay value is the best I have ever, and I mean this, ever seen in any single game. The game is filled with secrets and the like, your second play probably won't even feel like the same game. I'm going to stop here for now, because I could never stop saying good things about this wonderful game.
