Black Mage Village discusion

When the game ended,the village of black mages became populated with Zidane's race,the genomes. How long do the black mages have to live before they all stop/die off,and leave their village to the genomes? Is there a chance that some might live a long time past their expiration date?

It was said that Black mages live approximately a year before dying. Vivi was an exception because he's a prototype, but I doubt he'll live much longer. Some people are even lead to believe that Vivi dies before Zidane and Garnet are reunited at the end of the game, they never actually come out and say it though.

I'm not so sure if the Black mages could live past one year, I assume that the one year thing was just on average. I'd be surprised if there weren't exceptions.

Also, Vivi seemed like he was able to reproduce somehow, so the other Black mages might still have a chance to survive as a race even if the individuals die after one year.

Unfortunately they expire a year after being created and it doesn't seem like there was much hope left for them with the Mist no longer flowing, though seeing Vivi's sons give you that hopeful feeling at the end.

What I find amazing is how though they're less than one year old, they were able to construct everything from scratch, how they were able to find one another without getting hurt or hunted by humans, and hatch a chocobo. Gives you a bad case of the warm fuzzies. XD

Well, the genomes are empty vessels that are meant to channel the souls of Terra. I would imagine once they 'receive' their soul and become a whole person, they'd live as long as their host soul was meant to live. But that is true, they were very vague about the details of their creation, purpose, etc. However, I think that because they were meant as an in-game parallel to the black mages to make one sympathize with Kuja, who was created as well and indeed.

Also, I'm working on another fan fic that explores the possibility of black mage reproduction, based on a five year long role-play my friend and I had going. Now it's not going to incorporate all the material we had gone into...by the end it was just plain silly. But I can tell you one thing...
