I like many artists and singers and Ayumi Hamasaki just so happens to be one of my all-time favorites. It doesn't matter if you get into a singer a few years after they come out and become popular, just as long as you can still feel the emotion in their music and love their songs, language barriers or not. And from what I've heard, to me, Ayumi is the queen of j-pop. She's the Japanese equivalent of Madonna. (in terms of her level of fame, not in personality or anything)
First of all, I love her voice. It sounds nasally at times but I'm beginning to think that that is one of the reasons I love her songs so much. She has an incredibly powerful voice, and an incredibly powerful vision. She sure doesn't hold back in telling the video directors what she wants, and you'll see what I mean by her newest ~Jewel~ video, for instance, which was marked as one the most expensive videos ever made.
Now I'm not saying that Japanese singers are all better than American singers OMG and that they can never compete, but my God, Japanese or not, she's just amazing and has stolen my heart. She's almost 30 years old and is still as lively as a kid. XD I just love the deep lyrics and meaning to her videos and how every one of her songs tell a story of what is happening in their life. That, to me, is a quality of a true singer, where they really put their essence into the songs. What I mean is... she doesn't really let anyone in the greedy music biz control her, and there's no other style like her's out there. She also cares a lot about her fans, and will probably keep making music for them aslong as it makes them happy.
*cheese* She also became Japan's biggest fashion icon since 2000.
Any other Ayumi Hamasaki fans out there?
