You guys really should stop just deleting people's posts without any type of feedback on why the posts were deleted. This has happened to me a good number of times on this forum.

The alternative: Have a mod input in red at the bottom of the post you guys have a problem with "This user has been <temp banned/perm banned/warned/etc...> for this post." You could also put in some kind of rationale below the message to alert not only the poster why his response was unwarranted but also other forum members of what not to do.

Arbitrary censorship without notice is a pretty big deterrent to even coming on here now. I understand you want to promote a certain environment, but just deleting posts you don't like is not the best way to do it.

Just a suggestion, take it or leave it since you guys are the kingpins of this forum.

I used to mod edit/quote the deleted post with a reason why, or if it was deleted, i'd quote it before deletion, and again, explain why

the only time i didnt do that was with serial spammers, id just prune the whole lot of posts and PM the member. Doing all that jsut takes too much effort and looks just as untidy as all the spam, which is why there isnt always an explanation

Always worked for me

Sometimes posts DO get deleted without warning, especially if its just an I AGREE. you just think ...ugh and delete it.

Its not 'posts they dont like' what get deleted, they will be off topic, spam, non contributory, rude, offensive etc etc etc

Read the rules?

You know something funny, Ireal? We DO edit posts many of times, and people still continue to break the rules with their posting and thus the deletion begins. We've stated in the past that if you don't follow the moderator warning you get in your post that your posts will be deleted without warning after that. Also our moderators are supposed to PM the person who's continuously breaking rules with their posting to warn them. If they still continue to not follow the rules after the PM has been sent, then their posts get deleted with no warning. We are in the processes of discussing the post deletion amongst ourselves (we=administrators) so rest assured, we'll get things figured out.

It doesn't really matter if you stipulated that you will delete posts in the future, since that's really what I'm trying to get at here. At least temp ban the person; however, you should let the response survive unless it is extremely offensive/spam/etc.... I just find it to be a pretty bad policy to allow mods to freely delete posts just because it doesn't jibe with their view of "OK". This discretionary choice could potentially lead to a misuse of power...and other mods would be ignorant as to who is even doing it (less there is some kind of open log that all mods constantly visit to view what posts were deleted and by which mod...doubt it).

Well this forum isn't the real world or anything, so if this is somehow too time consuming or bothersome to act on...I won't push any further.

As I said in my above my post, we're working on it. Also, we're not going to temp-ban a person unless they do something to actually deserve to be temp-banned. If I'm not mistaken, mods can see who deleted what but I'm not completely certain. I know the GMods can see, but I'm not sure if the section mods can or not. Anyway, as I said we are working on a solution to the problem. Posts may still continue to be deleted, but not as freely as they have been.

section mods can see that a post has been deleted out of their area and the reason WHY, but not the post its self

Ahh okay, I wasn't sure about that one. xD I've always been able to see all deleted posts, why they were deleted and the post themselves. But anyway, we ARE working on solutions to this, so please just be patient. We'll get it taken care of. =] Since this really needs no further discussion, I am going to go ahead and close this thread now.
