Finding areas to level up in, and actually make it worth your time can be difficult early on in the game.

But here's something you might want to try when you get to Barheim Passage.

There will be these annoying battery mimics that will feed on the power supply there. Let them feed too much, and all kinds of bad stuff comes out of the ground. Skeletons, zombies, wraiths....that kind of thing.

When you are getting near to the end of the passage, you'll find a convenient blue save crystal on the tracks. Remember where it is.

Here's the tip: Do NOT kill the last battery mimic. Just let him run the power down all the way. We want the skeletons to pop up.

Now, fight your way back to that blue save crystal. In the room just before it, there will be ONLY skeletons (about 10-12) that will pop out of the ground. Kill them, then go to the room with the save crystal but do NOT touch the crystal if you want to chain those skeletons. Then walk one more screen away, then back to the save crystal room, then back to those skeletons.

This is a great way to level up early on in the game and also chain skeletons to get loads of bone fragments which sell for 193 each.

Remember, though, that you can only have 99 of one item. If you want to keep going after loot and level up, you can flee back to the room where the merchant is and sell off everything, and then make your way back.

If you want to gain even more exp, kill off Basch. He's only a guest at this point anyways.

Good suggestion, I had a blast killing all those skeletons and getting rich off of those bone fragments! haha

Ah there's one more thing to this.

I'm not exactly sure on the particulars, but I believe bone fragment X 3 and iron scraps X 3 sold at that merchant will open up the iron sword in the bazaar, so you can get that sword even earlier than you would otherwise.

I'm gonna save and test it here real quick and find out if that is, indeed, the exact combination of items needed.

Okay, just figured it out.

To get the iron sword to show up in the bazaar items, you'll need to sell the merchant iron scraps X 2, and foul flesh X 2.

You get the iron scraps from the tiny mimics, and you get the foul flesh from zombies.

The zombies are located north of that blue save crystal.

I know this doesn't seem like a real huge tip, but it's early on and when you're level 10 or 11, an iron sword at this stage of the game can make things a helluva lot easier for you. Especially on the mimic queen.

And I'm going to say something that no one ever said to me and it took me forever to figure out how. You can target allies, foes, or reserve, by pressing the R1 and L1 buttons when you are selecting a target. The reserve is the party that is out of sight. This is useful if your main party dies, just get the other party out, and have each one use a phoenix down, and the other party is revived in seconds.

:) You can get an Iron Sword early in the game from Nalbina too. I had one when I first visited Giza. Just a thought

I got some pretty good stuff from Nalbina Fortress too early on in the game that wasn't being sold anywhere else. Good tip too.
