I'd like to share a little story with you all about how people don't trust random acts of kindness.
Yesterday, my family and I ended up going to church, and my step-dad and I ended up splitting off with the youth group there. (He's a leader of the youth group.) The group of about 12 people ended up going to a park for about 40-50 minutes. We had a cooler with us, filled with cold bottles of water that we tried to hand out for anyone who need a good drink, from running around in the park, or to relieve them abit from the heat.
We would take two bottles at a time, and head out asking people if they wanted a free bottle of water from the church. Out of about 20 people asked, about 17 took the bottles, and about 15 of those people didn't drink it, or just sat their bottle down and didn't even open it. The last 3 or 5 utterly refused to even take one bottle. We still had at least 4 bottles left, that we couldn't even give away. Over half the kids in the group came back and said the people didn't look them in the eye, and didn't smile, or even try. 2 people said a sincere thank you, and the others just pushed away with, "...Thanks." And didn't talk anymore.
So, what do you think?
