Anyone who’s played a Final Fantasy at length before has probably heard of the titular ice-elemental summon Shiva. We first got our sneak peek at Shiva in the rightmost artwork above, but today, Team XIV showed off the Primal’s artwork and in-game model (Sculpt data created using ZBrush, so textures or the proper colors have not yet been applied). Primals Ifrit and Garuda were able to be challenged in Version 1.0, but as we sail into A Realm Reborn, expect more iconic summoned monster fights including: Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Garuda, Titan, and Leviathan. Odin and Bahamut may make an appearance but in a slightly different format.
The Primals are revered as gods by the different tribes of Beastmen in Eorzea such as the Amal’jaa or the Ixali. Just don’t let them catch you calling Primals “Eikons”. Each Primal has its own set of themed weapon drops for eager adventurers willing to band together to bring them down, and have an advanced difficulty mode that yields great rewards.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s beta phase will commence mid-February, and the team is planning to get the first benchmark out before it kicks off.
