Outside the capital of Gridania, players will be able to explore the vast forest of The Black Shroud just east of the geographical heart of Eorzea. We’ve seen this area primarily in alpha footage and screenshots, and Square Enix has re-done each zone due to the problems of reused geometry and assets that were so prevalent in the original version. The game also runs an entirely new engine that will scale better to fans’ wide range of PC setups — but also be optimized for PS3.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s PC alpha phase will commence next week for North American and European fans that signed up. Follow this link to sign up for alpha.
