Haha, I messed up on one of the answers the first time I found her in the woods, too. But I had already decided Yuffie would be one of my favorite characters before I even started the game, so I just shrugged and ran around until I found her again.
I hated that, too. On my first playthrough, every time I went back after a significant plot point I thought that those attractions would somehow magically open up again.
I can personally vouch for Suikoden V. Have you played the other Suikoden games yet? I've played III, IV, Tactics and V (I know, blasphemy that I haven't played II), and I'd say it's second best out of those four, right behind III. I love that series so much. The battle system is unlike any...
Demon's Gate at Temple of the Ancients. Ugh, ugh. I had to retry so many times to beat that boss. Healing was of the utmost importance. A couple of Bahamut summons did wonders, too.

I liked Mosphoran Highwaste and Phon Coast... they were wide open and easy places to get long chains/good loot.
Phon Coast was really the last part of the game where I purposely stopped to train, because after that I always had enough money and I was usually a high enough level to get through...
Agreed that it's fun, but not all that useful early in the game. Setting Cure to HP is kind of entertaining, but things don't get good until later on when you're setting 100 Hastes to Speed.
