I think Vaan and Penelo could work but there would need to be a lot of character growth beyond the feeling of siblings they would have for each other. But honestly, I think there NOT being a romantic sub-plot is one of this game's biggest strengths.

If I could have any arcade cabinet in my home it would be this one right here. I came for the FFVII characters and stayed for a great fighting game and an ok RPG mode. Plus those beach races as Tifa...*chef's kiss*

Anyone else still playing? My excitement for the game comes and goes but will likely never be where it was when it was new and I had a Duos partner. But I still usually play every day just because I love the progression system and having quests to do. I'm a sucker for a checklist of tasks...lol...

I once got a pristine boxed copy of Mystic Quest at a garage sale for $0.75 and it's one of the best pieces in my collection. I freaking love Mystic Quest despite all its failings. It's just pure nostalgia to me.

I absolutely think a prequel to Final Fantasy III would be amazing. But...don't have it follow so closely with the game play of the original game like After Years did.
