There's one thing that XII has over X: if your three party members die, you can just switch out to your reserve three. You won't lose. I prefer 4 party members. As said previously, it lets you create a more balanced party.

Hell yeah. In a few more levels, possibly at level 20-22, you'll hopefully go through Shadowfang Keep, a dungeon, and get some good gear :D You'll level up at the same time, do quests and get Rare (blue) equipment. All is good.
