Crisis Core is well recommended as a Final Fantasy 7 supplement, but I'd only recommend buying it or playing it after you finish FF7. It's not essential, but it's nice to have that mystery of 'how did these events occur' before you find out the rest from Crisis Core. Birth by Sleep is also good. ^_^
