Always Cloud, Vincent & Tifa. Vincent's physical attacks are pretty good, and I gave him all the main magic (fire/fira, cura etc.) so he could hit with both. I primarily used Tifa as my main magic user, although her physical attacks are good too, so it was well balanced out. ^^

Balthier or Fran, character and storyline wise. I liked their characters most. I think I actually used Vaan most xD I'd levelled him up more than any of the other characters so yeah. I don't mind him or anything xD I also made use of Penelo's high MP and had her has my primary magic user.

FFX at the moment :_: I WASSS playing FFXII but after being stuck on flipping Tiamat and then my FFX arrived, I'm taking a break ;S I often find I can beat bosses easier once i take a break, dunno why. xD

Yes D: Training and random encounters. Worse for training is when you're stuck in a place, and have a huge boss battle coming up, AND THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN TRAIN IS WHERE YOU ARE AT >.> and usually the monsters there are crap/bad exp/fail. D: *Is happening now on FFX :'[*
