I just tried cleaning the worse out of the two disks and, believe it or not, it actually worked! I was dumbfounded! All this time all I had to do was clean it! Thanks for giving me the advice, now i'm off to enjoy what I hope to be a great game!

As for going to the store, I have a 'old do it yourself' disk cleaning get from the mid 90's that still works. Both copies of the game are of the black-backed variety, are those even safe to clean?

One of the copies has very minor scratches and the other is perfectly clean except for some dust.

I own two copies of Final Fantasy IX and both of do not work. In both copies I can play all the way until the first battle scene and the game freezes. The music will still play but the screen is frozen and I cannot put in any commands. This problem happens on both the psx and ps3. Both copies...
