Nope, you're not just seeing things. Same thing actually happens in the Feywood with the mist and images reflecting off of it.

Definately Shiva. I really liked her design in X. Not to mention that she's been my favorite in all the other FFs, also.

Subterra at Pharos. Getting attacked by hoards of enemies in the outer rings didn't make for a good time. As mentioned by someone else, a lot of the rooms down there are nearly pitch black, and finding your way around was rough.

My usual main three were: Fran Balthier Basch Though, sometimes I'd switch Basch out for Vaan.

I really loved the environments in Final Fantasy XII, but I'd have to say that the Feywood was by far my favorite place. It was eerily beautiful and I loved the music there too. Otherwise, I found the Paramina Rift and Ridorana to be nice.
