This might seem a bit of an anti-garnetthread, so sorry garnetfans :p.

I'm amazed to see that so many acutally have put Garnet into their strongest line-up (see party members thread). I find her soooo weak, ok so she can heal but Eiko can do it as well + has some better white magic: holy and might. And no way she's used for physical attacking.

Garnet's eidolons are actually nothing compared to the ones eiko has, surely I cant remember actually using an eidolon of garnet in an important fight, the only good ones are Ark and Bahamut and the latter I actually dont use either while Ark is acquired real late in the game.

Eiko has Phoenix (very handy), Carbuncle (in some fights he's surely a step towards victory), Madeen (strong!) and Fenrir ( not a good one but 3 out of 4 is good enuf).

Ok I have to admit that Garnet is quite useful at start but from the moment you got eiko, she's worthless to me and then there's also that period that she can't talk and 50% of her commands fail -_-.

Eiko's trance is better, I actually dont see a lot difference between the summon and eidolon command anyways, the damage isnt that much increased, I rather have 2 white magic spells.

Another argument of me is that eiko just seems to get her good abilities faster and easier, I mean she even starts already with auto-regen!

Can someone explain to me how she can be strong in your eyes =/ ?

i only used garnet because i liked her sooo much better than eiko. and i dont like eiko's eidelons...i like the usual bahamut.

I completely agree to me Garnet/Dagger is the weakest character and the most useless in the game!

Eiko is a better white mage and although she as less summons the summons she as are just as good as the ones Garnet as!

People who usually use Garnet are just fans...nothing more at least that´s what i think!

I can say the same about eiko. people who use are just fans lolz. Most useless? She isn't useless. She has good magic, and summons. She's a good white mage, with summoner abilities. I thought it was clever that half her commands failed while she had lost her voice. It reflects how traumatised she was, and even though she lost some abilities, it made sense why. she soon gets better though. Her trance ability is also handy. Having a summon attack more then once without using extra MP? handy.

iirc eidolon command only summons the eidolon once but just adds some more damage

Um, no :P "Eidolon" performs the usual summon. Then, when its Garnet's next turn, it plays the shorts-animation of the summon.

I would hardly say Garnet is the weakest character. I never use the Might, Haste, Jewel etc abilities, so Eiko becomes equal, because I only ever use them for healing and summoning.

I know that Eiko gets more useful Eidolons, but Garnet's are more powerful throughout the game. However, the majority are useless because you get them on disk 3, and since you only have 1 of each gem, they're a lot weaker, and they take time to learn.

I say:

Garnet = Eiko in terms of power. I'm not a "fan" of either. I <3 all of the IX characters. Even Quina :P

No, Garnet's summons weren't that great. For the end of the game I use Steiner and Freya, which did 9,999 damage. The main advantage with Eiko was Full-Life, Dispel, Regen and Haste. On top of that Eiko had great summons. Phoenix was very helpful when fighting Ozma. Full-life is a great advantage too. I hate using a weak life spell and then having my character get one-shoted.

Supposedly, she is the weekest character. There's even a walkthrough on gamefaqs on how to beat the game with her, and it indicates that it's the hardest challenge in FFIX. LOL.

Garnet isn't useless at all. If you know the basics and are good enough at fighting you shouldn't have much need for better white magic.Besides, by the time you have begun levelling up and getting rid of things post end-game Auto-Regen should be doing most of the healing, making double healing unecessary. Garnet is a better character overall. I believe she has more HP than Eiko, right? (been a while since I played FFIX) And I would place moar summoning with no MP cost above Double White.

I could be swayed either way. At the beggining hands down Garnet but at the end I'd say Eiko. Its been a looong time since I beat this game and its hard for me to remember. But I'm going though it again and without Garnet at the start it would have been very hard.

VIVI and Freya pwn you all!!!

yeah, if you need to use a strategy guide to beat the game with a character in your party then your not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to playing video games.

I like Garnet a lot and I probably use her more than Eiko since she tends to have more hp. And I like summoning bahamut. I always use Eiko for the final battle instead of Garnet though because her healing is better.

I use her as a healer most of the time. I equip the Healing Rod on her, and since her stats are highly leveled up on my Game Save File, I just whack my own characters to give them some HP.

Also, she's got the better summons of the 2 Summoners. So when I need some White Magic, I'm naturually going to go with Garnet because she's a dual-wielder with Amazing summons and good white magic.

i think garnet is the weekest character come on all the games hav got one week character ff7 areis ff8 selphine ff9 garnet its just true

Physically she is weak, yes. (But I'm sure Eiko is weaker) But it doesn't mean she isn't useful.

Aeris - Great Gospel is probably the best Limit Break in the FFVII.
Selphie - Can win any battle with The End. This includes boss fights.
Garnet - Uses more offensive type summons as apposed to Eiko's more defensive type summons and Eidolon will make them attack more than once.

Despite physically not being impressive, these type of characters usually can prove useful.

Admitted...Garnet is a relatively week character, and her trance is virtually useless compared to Eiko's. Eiko does have some very good magic and summons compared to garnet too.

But I still keep Garnet in my lineup instead of Eiko every time I play. She may not be strong or efficient with trance, but she's very useful with typical spells like cure and protect.

Agreed with all who said Garnet is weak as far as physical attacks go and as far as I could remember, Eiko was a little worse.

However, I always kept garnet in my party as a strong healer as well and for the seldom use of a summons here and there.

Eiko however, very rarely used.

I love Eiko's white magic spells and her summon side effects; they do come in handy a lot of the time, but I always find myself in need of just a typical cure spell. =\

Garnet and Eiko both had great summons for certian sittuations. But in the end, I always end up having a team of Zidane, Dagger, Vivi, Steiner. That's where it's at.

Someone should try having a team with the most useless characters.
How about Garnet, Eiko, and Quina.
