Persona 2 Ported to PSP

Atlus revives 11 year old classic PlayStation title.

Atlus announced a new Persona game over in Japan today. It's still not Persona 5, but fans don't seem to be minding too much.

1999 PlayStation classic Persona 2 Innocent Sin is getting the remake/enhanced port treatment on the PSP. The new game is already 90% finished with development and will see Japanese release this Winter.

Interviewed in Weekly Famitsu, which broke word of the game this week, director Shouji Meguro revealed some major changes for the game outside of the expected update to wide screen output. The game is seeing all new illustration work from character designer Shigenori Soejima and over 100 arranged songs. Players will be able to select between original and arranged versions of the music.

On the gameplay front, the battle system is based off Eternal Punishment, the second chapter in the Persona 2 story (EP is the version of persona 2 that was released outside of Japan). The difficulty and balance are seeing adjustments for modern players. Going along with the change to wide screen, the game's interface is being updated to make for a more user friendly experience, with party status and a mini map now shown on the field screen, and a visual display of party member movement order during battle.

As usual with these breaking Japanese announcements, this news concerns just Japan at present. We're certain international players would love the chance to see Innocent Sin in English, but Atlus has not yet issued comment.

Soejima did provide some hints that a PSP version of Eternal Punishment is also on the way, saying that the reason it wasn't done simultaneously was because it wouldn't be possible to fit the two games on a single UMD. Perhaps Atlus will see fit to release an IS and EP collectors pack for English audiences?

Apparently it's directed by the series regular composer, Shoji Meguro. I've never played Persona 2, and apparently one of the Persona 2 games, Innocent Sin, was never given an international release. Hopefully both games make it here in North America and Europe. I think this will be an excellent addition to the wait for Persona 5 :dave:

They're really cashing in on the Persona series after the success of Persona 3 and 4. Still, this is great news. The two games making up Persona 2 are meant to be really great, although controversial, which is why one of them wasn't translated.

Still, if they both get made and they both hit either the US or Europe, I'll buy them, it'll be nice to be able to own the entire series.

Damn it, you beat me to announcing it! xD

But yeah, soooooooooo stoked to see this come out over here. I never played P2, so I really wanna check it out, a LOT.

I'm hoping Eternal Punishment makes a follow-up as well. Might as well have both games, right? ;D

I don't think Europe even received the PSP enhanced remakes of both the first Persona and Persona 3, so I'm a bit doubtful towards whether or not we'll get to see this game either. Still, with a broken and defunct PSP, I can't say I'm exactly really looking forward to this even though I can probably try and get a US copy whenever this is eventually localised. As a person who has never actually played the games, I should really track down a copy of either 3 or 4 first on the PS2. :lew:

Persona is a great series. Personally though I did not buy the remake of persona I on psp. I dodnt kno why it just didnt look the same too me. I just want to see some more information on Persona V. Yeah this is interesting news. Never played II so I might pick it up sometime if it is good.

I highly recommend skipping over 3 and getting 4 instead. 3 was nice and all but it doesn't hold a candle to 4, the game is superior in every sense. In 3 you only control your main character and set a preset to your party AIs, somewhat like XIII. The plot to 3 doesn't really start till the 2/5th mark of the game, whereas in 4 it immediately starts from the beginning. And I personally think 4 had a better written plot and more likable characters.

It's unfortunate P3P wasn't released in Europe, I would have recommended that one since it plays better (you get to control all your character like in 4).
