As mentioned; this is the counterpoint to the other thread, because we need to have some happiness here and not become a bunch of cynical farts during the season :)

Auld Lang Syne - Girlschool
Yes, I know it's a metal cover of a Christmas song, but I just love this thing.

Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth - David Bowie and Bing Crosby
This is just such an off-the-wall duet. Bing Crosby was quite socially conservative in his time and for him to even think about doing (much less carry out) a duet with David Bowie of all people is mind boggling. Still, he did it (and regrettably died about a month after it was recorded and before it was aired, R.I.P.) and it's one of my favorites :)

When the River Meets the Sea - John Denver and the Muppets
I love the entire John Denver and the Muppets album, but this is probably my favorite song from it.

What Child is This? - Johnny Mathis
Find another artist who does every verse and adapts the chorus to match like this. Easily the best version of the song out there.

Mary's Boy Child - Harry Belafonte
Slower and less bouncy than the Boney M. version, but there's something I love about this one.

Oh What a Merry Christmas Day - Mickey's Christmas Carol
Short, sweet, happy, and if you speed it up, you get the approximate tune to Weird Al Yankovic's "Weasel Stomping Day".

Pretty much any Christmas song by Perry Como. I've been listening to a lot of "the old crowd" since I was seven and still haven't outgrown 'em :)

Santa Christ - The Nostalgia Critic
Because lol.

Driving home for Christmas always reminds me of the early 00's because i can remember one year it was played non stop on The Box

Mariah in her prime :ryan: bet it was probably one of the cheapest video's ever to make though " Mariah get yourself a sleigh and a cheap video camera and just get someone to record you messing around in the snow with someone dressed at santa " :santa:

Low - Just Like Christmas

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IippcraBPKA

Amazing band and amazing song

And of course the obvious answer to this question is The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York:

Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas

Really rather lovely, love the Profokiev bit.

I would say that All I Want for Christmas is You is great, and I say that as someone who usually hates Mariah Carey's music.

Mariah Carey - All I want for Christmas Is You

I just love how classic this song is. It's so upbeat and so festive! She really hit gold with this song. She managed to create her own song for Christmas and make it sound classic. It's always been one of my favorites to listen to during Christmas season.

Well I love almost all the Christmas songs, it's hard to pick. :hmmm: But there's one that's definitely my ultimate favorite:

Carol of the Bells
by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckC-sjTl670
I always get so excited whenever it comes up on the radio :ohoho: It's so epic and Christmas-y at the same time! I could listen to it over and over, it never gets old.

Yay for the Holidays ^_^

I like the Christmas holidays but I don't really like traditional Christmas songs. As a big punk rock fan, I found the album "Christmas whit the Vandals (Oi to the world)" a couple years ago. The Vandals are a funny punk rock band from California. This is not a typical Christmas album but here's what it looks like:

Some people might find the lyrics cynical, dumb or childish but I just take it as a funny Christmas song

This is so awesomely Ye Olde Englishe. I LOVE it! ♥

I'm also extremely fond of Twisted Sister's version of "Deck the Halls" although I can't seem to locate that on Youtube...at least, not a non-live version ._.

I was gonna make this thread eventually but got side tracked after the other one XD

Here are my favorites.

Here We Come A Caroling

This song isn't that popular in the US, but it's one of my favorites.

Oh Holy Night

I didn't pay much attention to this song until a few years ago when a girl at my high school sang it and it was beautiful. I have never heard a version that has come close to matching hers. I'm also very picky about this song. I like it best when the singer hits all the notes.

Do You Here What I Hear

This song used to annoy me, but now I love it. I hate the Whitney Houston version.

Oh Come All Ye Faithful.

Well I love the Twisted Sister version XD

Mannheim Steamroller :8F:

(it starts around 0:17 or so)

I love their version of this Nutcracker song, I don't know why but it sounds totally badass to me XD I first heard it when I got to Lord of the Rings an hour early in the theater one year, and they were playing Christmas music before the trailers, and I just had to have the CD after hearing it :D The little drum-only pause in between always cracks me up :lew: Their version of Auld Lang Syne is good too, and Away in a Manger. The whole "Christmas Extraordinaire" album is good, really :hmmm:

Also, I mentioned in another thread that there are a bunch of fantastic ones in Home Alone, particularly "O Holy Night," "Somewhere In My Memory," and "Silver Bells" (I think--it may have a different name but I think it starts off with the choir singing it, then goes into something else :hmmm:) done by the choir. Spine-chilling and amazingly good. I can't find the links to the actual movie versions atm so here are the scenes:

One other really beautiful one is Simon and Garfunkel's "Star Carol". I heard this on a compilation somewhere a long time ago, and it seems like a really rare song for some reason, but it's quite pretty, one of my favorites:

As far as the poppier ones that are more often on the radio, even though no one I know ever seems to have heard of it, the "Happy Holidays" song by Andy Williams. It really does exist, I'm not crazy, I swear, and it's funny as hell and I love it :mokken: :

Hoop de doo, and dickory dock. And don't forget to hang up your sock

Good to see someone else mention Andy Williams (we have the CD with that song on it too which does mean you're not crazy...and I've had the song stuck in my head all day).

I've been meaning to mention this one, since I keep hearing it at work, just forgot :gasp: :

John Lennon-- "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" I love this one because it's kind of a tongue-in-cheek commentary on how people in stable societies tend to forget that there are wars and whatnot going on in other countries during the holidays, and that the world's problems don't stop even for one day. It's good because even though that makes it a less cheery song, it keeps me grounded and helps me remember that and be more grateful for the things I have.

My favorite Christmas songs are:

Judy Garland- Have yourself a merry little Christmas

Bing Crosby- White Christmas

Bing Crosby- Happy Holidays (from my favorite Christmas movie)

I like these songs because they evoke a little bit of emotion about Christmas...and Bing and Judy have absolutely amazing voices.

I have a love/hate relationship with that Mariah Carey song. It depends what mood I'm in. I'll either love it, and stick it on repeat for ages, or shudder at the start of it and avoid it at all costs :lew:

I really love this one though, I've been singing it non-stop since the snow came :lew:

Also, I'm really partial to any versions of Silent Night. It's always been my favourite hymn, and I always associate it with Christmas.

Same here, actually. I still can't decide if I like it or not. It's not bad and it doesn't feel as counter-traditional as other more recent Christmas renditions, but at times it still feels like she's pouring way more emotion than is necessary into the thing.

My favorite version of that song is the one by John Denver and the Muppets :)

The interlude with the history of the song is a nice touch.

Though these may not have exactly the type of Christmas spirit most people appreciate, I think they're still worthy of mention for laughs as well :D :

H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society- "Freddy The Red-Brained Mi-Go"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU85OUr7iN8

"It's The Most Horrible Time Of The Year"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie9S59ZzLFM

"It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Fishmen"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tTHn2tHhcI

I totally went around looking more of those songs up after hearing those three XD

Personal favorite of the lot XD

Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead singing Run Rudolph Run accompanied by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top on guitar and Dave Grohl on drums has got to be one of the most cool and fun Christmas songs of all time. It never fails to put me in a good mood :)

I also quite like Christmas Time by The Darkness. I actually loathed them when they were still around, but they've grown on me since and this is a fun little tune...

A few years ago I got one of the sweetest christmas albums ever. Its a band who did x-mas songs in the style of other bands, and they nailed it. Here is t'was the night before christmas as if Zeppelin was doing it;
