Kayne had been wandering for some time now. It has been days sine he left the hideout in Midgar.
As he was never taken use of, he was almost always left back in town.
He had heard something about a gathering of new members in Cosmo canyon, and this was his best shot at acctually getting some action. Thought he was not completely aware of what cold happen.

This was days ago, he had little money, so he had been stealing rides, and hitchhiking along some roads.
Needless to say, there where few the let him come for free. Thus he had to walk.

The terrain, and weather made this especially hard, the rain, accompanied with strong winds, chilled him through the bone. And it was not made better as he neared Cosmo.
As the rain was swapped out for sand, and the wind only changing in temperature.
He forced himself thorough the hard terrain and bad weather. He had made his mind. If there where not a group that wanted him there, he would simply stop trying, and settle for a boring life as a farmer, or something simple.
Perhaps try out his luck as a chocobo farmer. As he had heard some rumors of them seeking more stable apprentices.

He squinted his eyes between the scarfs he had rapped around his head to keep most of the sand away. He was nearing his goal. He also wondered if the vague shape he had seen some times on his trip here, the ones of a fellow human, was a mirage or true.
In either case, he still had some time to go.

the terrain got worse, as he bluntly thought to take a short cut, which showed itself to be a short trip yes, but harder to acctually walk.
He ended up using his staff for support for most of the trip, but finally managed to reach the steps of Cosmo Canyon.

He forced himself up the long stairs, and was stopped by a deep voice. "More newbies, huh?"
Kayne did not look up, as he was way too exhausted at this moment.
He simply nodded, ignoring the fact that he was not a newbie per se, but simply one that had been ignored for countless missions.
And he was let enter. The first thing he did, was acquire a container of water, washing the sand down his throat. Letting out a loud "AHH!" as he sat the container on the rock ground beside him.

He looked around, there where some people, some cheering together. Some dancing.
Some where as alone as Kayne was. He ignored it for this exact moment, as he was simply resting, regaining the lost energy.

'Train an army...huh?'

Sage mused as he leaned leisurely against a wooden railing, a deep drag pulling strenuously at the tip of his cigarette, he exhaled casually wafting plumes of smoke high into the glowing desert sky. Three pearl buttons on his white collared shirt fastened the loose fabric over his thin frame bellowed in the brisk air, revealing his firm smooth chest. Night had only just fallen over the canyon and a harsh wind had picked up, whipping strands of stray sun-stained hairs into his unblemished face. His lips pursed wide enough to let the wrap of tobacco dangle loosely in his thin mouth. The only thing betraying his calm demeanor was the rapid movement of rolling eyes behind tightly closed lids.

A low deafening roar from the amassing crowd interrupted his covert reconnaissance. Slim fingers finally pried off the death-grip on his earpiece, and his eyelids exploded open revealing a frightfully sharp cerulean blue clashing hastily against his pale skin. The wooden railing creaked heavily against his unexpected weight, the creak and groan echoed in his ears, no longer background noise to his thoughts. His hand haphazardly slapped the screen of his hand held touch screen computer, interrupting the transmission and bringing a grimace of annoyance pulling at his sinewy lips.

'Yo, big guy!' He loudly blurted in the direction of a large black warrior welcoming new-comers as the flocked into the clearing, 'when's the party starting? I've got a nice, warm, cozy bed with my name on it in this garbage-heap you call "base"!'

Crossing the desert from Junon made him irritable and the long wait hadn't taken the edge off yet. Dirt and grime had left dark stains on his traveling clothes, fortunately he had left his heavier equipment stowed safely under several layers of clothes. He had just finished repairing his radio equipment enough to set up a listening device and had just caught the tail end of what could have been a distress signal, when the ruckus from the crowd pulled him back to reality.

His eyes darted nervously from side to side. It hadn't been his intention to be so confrontational, it was just his nature. Obvious impatience took over and caused him to lash out irrationally from time to time. His emotions read clearly on his face, registering as he actively decided to 'just go with it.' His mouth tightened up as he reaffirmed his conviction. His fingers tapped against his stun baton strapped tightly to his upper thigh. It's black handle grip housed the 9volt batteries that powered it's devastating electrical pulses. The truth was : he had walked miles across the beaten earth without encountering a battle, he was itching for some action!

"i hate social gatherings" shadow muttered, then sighed and headed for the steps to cosmo canyon. upon arriving there he was stopped and he heard a guy mutter "another one?" shadow stiffened upon those words. he was a veteran of war and shouldn't be treated like this. all of a sudden his scythe was pointing at the man's throat. "you best learn respect" shadow said darkly then nudged the man aside and entered the canyon.

Forbidden Caves
A once sealed-off location deep within the canyon that houses monsters undisturbed by the passageof time

Location: Cosmo Canyon

A sudden cascading ripple of silence began to emanate from further within Cosmo Canyon, seeming to originate from a blazing bonfire that towered at the centre of a stage, casting back the deepening shadows all around them. A respectful hush had descended onto all, as a figure began to make his way towards the fire in order to speak to the gathered crowd. This figure however, was no mere man. A shiny red-coat glossed over a well-toned, wolf-like physique, yet all who looked upon his eyes saw a deep spark of intelligence than excelled beyond most normal human beings.

He paused, gazing out into the crowd. There was a time when such a feat would have terrified him, but he had grown both in confidence and purpose over the passing years; had taken up the mantle of his grandfather - of Burgenhagen. Red XIII's eyes stopped on the sight of his close-comrades huddled in concealed discussion to one side of the gathered group. He already knew what it was about. For now, he had to turn his attention to the forging of a new stage of Avalanche.

"The life-stream is the very blood of the planet, and without it, everything would die. Nothing could be healed, nothing could be reborn." His voice, both soothing, polite and calm, reached out into the crowd. "There are those who would use such a precious gift for their own personal gains, and in the process, threaten the very existence of all life that dwells on this planet. We at Avalanche strive to stop those forces, no matter the cost.

There are stirrings ... clear signs hidden deep within the life-stream. A time of reckoning is undoubtedly approaching. No one could forget the devestation caused a few years ago now ... the Weapons ... Sephiroth..." He paused, letting the words cut deep. "Such an event must never come to pass yet again. We must ... we will prevent it ... or die in the trying."

His words suddenly cut short, and a deadly silence echoed in their wake. Though he had long since come to a definitive conclusion in his studies, he could not yet put them into words. Or perhaps, he did not want to, as if in doing so it would make them more real. How could he tell these people, who had already suffered and lived through much, that those memories of strife were only a simple prologue for a darker chapter to come? How could he tell them, that deep within the life-stream itself, Sephiroth's essence was being re-forged?

He couldn't ... not yet.

Footsteps caused him to turn, a glad sound in the awkwardness that descended onto all. Barret made his way towards him, shoving his way past onlookers with a determined grin on his features. Reaching the stage, he turned to survey the crowd.

"Yo, listen up!" He barked, roughly. "What Red here's trying to say is that it's do or die! So those of ya'll who ain't up to putting their life on the line - leave now. There ain't no fame or glory here, only harsh and desperate battles to come. But fight 'em we will, 'coz the planet can't protect itself! For the planet ... for Avalanche!" A loud cheer suddenly erupted from the crowd.

Red XIII slowly nodded his head. "Your training begins now. Prepare yourselves for combat, and when you are ready, head to the entrance of the Forbidden Caves. There, we will test your aptitude and skill..."

OOC: I would like to point out, that I added an apperance tab to mu bio in the sign up, but ti seems as it was not taken with to the version posted here in the RP thread.
So, just to let you know, that I have explained hie mu char looks.
------------------------------------

Kayne grew a grin, it seemed that he would at least see some action here. So he did the good thing.
His life wound either be used to help save the planet, or return to it.

In either case, Sephiroth and the Weapons had to be stopped, at all costs.
Kayne was one the ones cheering as Barret completed his speech. After all, Barret was one of the highest ranked, and experienced members of Avalanche. Not to mention Red XIII, which Kayne had heard was also called Nanaki.
As Nanaki seemed like a name, and Red XIII seemed like a numbering, he chose to stay with the one sounding like a name.

Kayne forced himself to his feet, he had rested enough, or was it adrenaline taking over. In any case, he was going to do as he was told. Make himself ready.
He looked at his staff, the gem was perfectly intact, only some sand on it that was easily blown away.
He fastened his staff to his back, and checked the gun.
The gun was holstered, and protected from the sand by a piece of cloth. Kayne's ideas payed up. He did not have to clean his gun from sand, he only had to unwrap it, as he holstered it again-
Everything there was in order.

he waled up the stairs, that lead to the various shops, and he checked his money reserves.
He had 1500 gil left. It was not much, but it had to do.

After browsing each shop. He decided to get himself a materia. After all, he was good with it, and he sucked in melee, so this was the best he could do.
He thought well, and hard. But ended up getting the Lightning materia. Which cut him back 1000 gil.
He put the bright green orb, into his staff, and felt its power as it merged with his mind.
Thinking for another minute, it would be a shame if he where Silenced, after all he was a spell caster.
So he got himself 2 [Echo Herbs], that cost him 300gil.
He had now only 200 gil left, but it had to do.

After making sure everything was right, and good to go. He headed towards the Forbidden Cave.
It was not hard getting there, as there where several people pointing him there, as well as a few signs.

With a slight grin, and a slight feel of uneasiness. Kayne continued on.

------------------------
OOC: Shopping info to make it simpler for the GM.
He got
1x Lightning materia. - 1000gil
2x [Echo herbs] - 150 each ~ 300gil

1500 - 1000 = 500 - 300 = 200gil left.

shadow entered the materia shop. "hello sir how may i help you today?" the clerk asked. shadow grabbed a fire materia and left 1000 gil on the counter then left the shop. "weirdo" the clerk muttered under his breath.

shadow continued walking away from the shop until he was out of sight of it. he then put the fire materia he purchased into his scythe and smiled. "fire, the essence of heat and light. not exactly my thing on the light part, but burning stuff always makes me happy" shadow said then looked towards the item shop. "i'd best get some potions before heading for the cave." shadow walked over to the shop and grabbed two potions. on his way out he put the 400 gil he needed to pay for the potions on the counter. "alright now let's see what this cave is all about" shadow said walking towards the entrance of the cave.

Status report for shadow in cosmo canyon: items recieved: fire materia, 2 potions.
stats: full power.

OOC: i am ready for the cave now.

Sage Mallory pinched the end of his cigarette, snuffing the flame. A soft swirl of smoke dissipated into the air, the faces he saw in the disappearing smog brought back painful memories. Just before all traces were removed it settled on the face of his father. He grinned and tucked the remaining cigarette into a pocket on his tan cargo shorts.

The crowd surrounding the bonfire shifted course, piling into shops, bartering with clerks, and filling the quiet peaceful town with a rush of pained noise. Sage, tucked his hand held computer into a zipper flap on his pants, checked the tightness of the holster on his right thigh and headed off towards the cave. The dusty trail crunched audibly under his combat boots.

Hoisting his travel pack over his shoulder he registered the clinking of his rations swirling around loosely in his pack. A couple potions, a phoenix down and his coin purse. The few items were padded by his dirty clothes, not that he had anything worth protecting, but the potent smell of a broken medicinal potion was enough to make him sick. His grenade belt was slung tightly around mid waist and only carried five of the high-impact variety.

A few steps before the entrance to the cave he noticed a final shop, that no one else had entered yet, above its door was a large sign with the picture of a sword. Seeing as how he had time to kill, Sage decided to take a peek inside. The door opened with a loud audible creak, and the crimson red light of a smithy's refinery welcomed him with a warm healthy light. Sage unsnapped the side-holster and freed his Stun Baton, snapping his wrist quickly extending the weapon to its full reach. He slapped down his coin purse and stared the snoozing store-hand to attention.

'What can you do for me with this much?' he murmured handing the weapon over to the shop owner.

The shop owner accepted his gil and tempered the weapon, sending Sage merrily on his way. With his weapon altered Sage turned to the cave, several others had already gathered. He waited patiently to receive further instructions.

The young woman waited patiently. Or at least, attempted to. Leaning against the far side of a wall that opened up towards the caves, one of her hands were drumming lightly on the side of her legs, whilst the other was twisting and twirling absentminded swings of her pinwheel weapon. Restless. Bored. Eager for movement. With a loud and audible sigh, Yuffie Kisaragi rolled her eyes, no longer able to handle being immobile. Her eyes began to dart amongst the crowd that had begun to gather, searching for prospective members to begin the training process.

"You, you and ... you. You're with me." Without even waiting for a word of protest or acknowledgement from Kayne, Shadow or Sage, Yuffie strode head-long first into the Forbidden Caves.

At once a chill began to rise from out of it's depths, along with a faint near murmured howl that whispered eeriely in the still air. Their footsteps continued to grow louder and more intrusive, as if the very caves itself was seeking their removal. As they walked, Yuffie turned back to glance at her assembled team.

"Not even the look of gil or Materia about them.". She shook her head in disbelief, suddenly pausing in mid-stride. "Here." She reached into a pouch attached to her belt and handed over three small packages to each of them. "Think of it as a sort of ... Avalanche welcoming gift." She turned at once, pushing on. "Never got any of THOSE back in the day..."

She nodded her approval at their slightly improved set-up. "Ok, 'Materia 101' time! Since you have only have a few Materia, these have been automatically equipped, but in the future, you have to equip purchased or discovered Materia manually, or you will be unable to use them during combat. There are five main types of Materia: Magic, Support, Independant, Command and Summon. Check out the guidebook for more information on each.

Now, take a careful look at your profiles. In each, you will discover a list of combat commands unique to you. These commands are continually changing, depending on the Materia or set-ups that you yourself alter."

She turned, wondering how best to proceed, before faintly glimpsing sudden movement out of the corner of her vision. With sudden grace and precision, Yuffie let fly with her pinwheel. The weapon span through the air, slicing easily through it, and within moments it slammed hard into the path of a large ravaged canine. A low snarl filled the air as the monster turned towards them, it's attention caught. Bared teeth revealed razor sharp fangs that were dripping with saliva and decay. All at once, it charged.

Yuffie slowly turned to Sage, Shadow and Kayne, her very posture brimming with impatience. "Well? ... What ARE you waiting for? Don't just stand there like a bunch of Mako-addicted stooges! DO something." She threw her arms into the air, exhasperated. "You don't just have to stand there in a line waiting for someone ahead of you to act ... let loose whenever you can!"

GM Notice
Combat tutorial has now commenced. Players are free to attack the Dark Fang in whatever order they like (aside from double-posting), and post as many, or as little, moves as they have the necessary stated AP costs for. Keep an eye on AP costs and remember that AP regenerates by +50 at the start of your next post. These will be monitored and updated continually, so no worries. Pay heed to combat etiquette (as explained in sign-ups) and Yuffie will explain more and more about combat during the course of the battle...

The pinwheel glided effortlessly, slicing through the air whistling as it passed. Sage unfastened the snap on his holster, pushing the handle of his baton up with his thumb. With a flick of his wrist the weapon's spring loaded clip, disengaged allowing the electric stick to reach its full potential. A rush of cold stagnant air passed over him, he spread his legs assuming a wide stance and flourished his stun baton, spinning it end over end in his right hand. It reached a pinnacle as his arm arched to a 45 degree angle. A smirk briefly passed over his lips, stopping short as a canine howl reverberated through the abysmal cavern.

The dark beast stalked smoothly within visibility, its penchant for circling from the shadows exposed only by its bright beady eyes. Yuffie's command registered within Sage's guts, this was the action he had craved! His thumb stretched to engage the constant electrical pulse and was shocked to discover something entirely new. Two round stones now embedded themselves on the grip, he pressed hard into them trying to indent the feel on his memory. The beast snarled circling closer as it did so, the ethereal sound was getting Sage's blood pumping. He flicked the switch and charged the target.

He streaking towards the Dark Fang, brandishing his baton delicately. His right arm twisted the clubbed end, bashing the top of the canine's skull. The creature let out an audible groan as Sage felt the baton tap the ground rhythmically responding to his inertia. With fleeting footwork Sage leaned further into his attack bringing the weighted weapon skyward into the creatures jaw. His hand brushed against the muzzle of the beast causing him momentary panic, the thought of the mongrels fiendish appearance resorted him to imagine wild visions of what might hide behind the creatures shaded eyes. Before he knew what he was doing he pulled the trigger on his baton sending a heavy electric jolt through the beasts body.

'Ok, "sensei",' he beratted wildly, 'how the f@#k do I use these pretty little toy stones of yours?!'

The chattering jaws of the beast grew louder in his ears, its unknown response still as vague as the shadows it haunted. Sage Mallory, stared dissuaded into the fiend's eyes. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for!

Kayne stood there, in a moments pause.
it was ironic that Yuffie, this little girl where to tutor them.
Though. she has seen way more action the Kayne had, at least up until this moment.

The person with the baton, obviously had it set to on higher then stun, as the large creature in front of them, seemed rather in pan as the thing was turned in.

how the f@#k do I use these pretty little toy stones of yours?!'
Was asked of him, Kayne took a step forward. Taking his staff from its resting place on Kayne's back.
He turned towards the man, and grinned "Like this"

Kayne stood slightly sideways, as he looked at the staff's slots. There sat now 2 yellow material in it, as well as the green one he got earlier.
His grin grew, as the staff's head began to glow.
"Lightning - Bolt-1" Kayne's voice stated, and a mere second later. A large bolt of blue lightning fell from the sky, hotting the creature in the back of its head. Sending it into temporary spasm.

Kayne took a few steps backwards after his attack hit. "Its simple, feel the Materia, don't expect it to do anything. Focus on it, and on the target. And it will do the rest" he grinned ot eh person with the Baton.

Location: Cosmo Canyon - Item Shop - Cosmo Cave

Tokugawa Yukio, throughout his life, always got his way. His mother, a woman who was obsessed with riches, appearance, reputation, and her son...well, it created quite a good mix for the lad. Whatever her darling, beautiful child wished for, he received on a diamond-laced platter. Yet, as Yukio grew into a more 'mature' adult, his desires were no longer focused on tangible items, but intangible ideas. He wanted, what he couldn't possess. All the money in the world couldn't buy him the affection of his childhood crush, and it couldn't pay off her warrior fiance from marrying her at the altar, either. Money couldn't buy him honor, and it couldn't buy him self-worth. Yukio had to learn it the hard way, that things worth having...are things worth fighting for. He didn't fight in the past, but for the future...Hell hath no fury like a pretty-boy scorned.

In his quest for self-worth and fulfillment, he would find himself within the ancient surroundings of Cosmo Canyon. Now, this was a place with some history, some honor. Yukio couldn't help but find himself rather intrigued with the area, and took in the sights with enthralling eyes. But, Yukio wasn't here to sight-see, he was here to attend the meeting for the AVALANCHE organization, a rebel-group that turned themselves into media-created villains, and then well-loved heroes. Of course, not many actually knew the truth of their heroic acts. Yet there they were speaking to a crowd of hopeful and battle-thirsty individuals. Yukio was one of the many in that crowd, and he listened attentively. "
There ain't no fame or glory here, only harsh and desperate battles to come. " Yukio's lips were tugged at the corners, allowing a grin to appear on his face. 'No glory, no fame...just fight after fight with no tangible reward. Sounds just up my alley.' Yukio thought to himself silently, arms folded at his chest while his eyes began to wander to the different shops in the area. Although, he did notice one thing about those shops...they all had ladders attached to them, due to the fact that they were not on floor-level. Yukio quirked a brow, he'd have to have a word with the morons who designed the architecture of this place!

After the meeting was declared over, Yukio decided he'd pick up an item over at what...he hoped, was the item shop. No signs, no posters, Cosmo Canyon was beginning to lose it's attraction all of the sudden. What a confusing place! Yukio shrugged his shoulders, and grabbed onto the first wooden slab of the ladder. He applied some weight to it, testing it's integrity. Yukio was too proud to admit his fear of heights, but it sure as hell was making itself known in his mind. He bit his lower lip, trying to shut up the fears eating at the back of his mind. He'd climb up that ladder though, he'd climb up it...fast! Once he pulled himself up at the top, all he could do was stare at the shop-owner and go: "If this isn't the bloody Item Shop, you're going to have to personally carry me over to it! Who designed this place?!"

The store-keeper, not having much of an answer, just gawked at the well-dressed man. The store owner managed to point to the sign above his head that said 'Item Shop.' Yukio sighed, shrugging his shoulders as he stepped closer into the shop, shrugging off the last remaining shakes of his fear of heights. Screw fear, he was Tokugawa Yukio, a legend in his own mind! Yukio snatched up one of the Soma's in front of him, glanced at the price tag and snatched up 500 gil from a pocket, handing it over to the man and walking away, without a word. Yukio made his way to the exit, and glanced down, eyes widening. Yukio never learned that lesson: going up...is much easier than going down. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and turned back to the shop owner. "When I come back to Cosmo Canyon, you mountain-climbers better have a shop on ground-level! ....I hate heights!" And with that, he carefully positioned himself at the top of the ladder, and, closing his eyes, climbed down that old, wooden, hand-made ladder as quick as he could.

Once he was at the bottom, he dusted his coat off. Yukio's attire was a prized possession in and of itself. He prided himself on appearing as pristine and presentable as possible, a habit learned from his mother. His coat was an ever-clean alabaster, his pants well-pressed and black, his boots made of polished obsidian leather, and his undershirt a silken turtle-neck, matching the color of his pants and boots. Someone might accuse him of having taken fashion tips from President Rufus ShinRa. Perhaps. He always did think that man was a sharp dresser.

'Well, I made it out of that item shop alive, now it's time to go take on whatever is dwelling in that cave.' Yukio thought to himself with a smirk, as he headed for the entrance to the Cosmo Cave. At least the cave was on an earthy-level!

"ALRIGHT now we're getting somewhere" shadow said readying his scythe. "let's see here, as i don't know it's weakness, i'll go with one of my newer materia" shadow said then breathed slowly and allowed himself to feel the materia. "alright then, let's go with GRAVITY" shadow said aiming his scythe at Dark fang. the spell hit the wolf and it flew backwards doubled over in pain. "alright now we're getting somewhere" shadow said then turned to the other two. "alright you two: you get another cheap shot at it while it's still stunned"

Status so far:
Dark Fang hit by: Kayne's thunder spell, Shadow's gravity spell, and 4x hit by a baton wielded by Sage. hope this saved a little time.

[OOC: Though I do check to monitor the situation, that certainly helps once I know that everything is correct. One small mistake, Sage unleashed 3 attacks, not four, as per his bolded actions. But yeah, that does help, thanks!]

The proceeding onslaught struck it all at once, stunning the Dark Fang into inaction as three fierce attacks were followed through by a bolt of dazzling lightning that seered it's flesh and sent it's fur standing on edge, and an sudden expanding wave of pure darkness that ripped through it's very core. The Dark Fang growled, retreating to a safer distance as it began to prowl, padded movements making no sound on the dust covered floor of the Forbidden Caves.

Yuffie nodded her head towards Kayne, Shadow and Sage. "In your profiles are a complete list of commands that you can use during combat, along with associated costs and terms of use. Your current AP will be reduced per action that you take. Remember, you can use as many commands as you see fit, providing that you have the AP cost to use them. However, only an idiot would waste all their actions in one go." She slowly shook her head. "Monsters have a lot of HP, and their attacks can deal some real nasty damage and status ailments. Saving some AP for another turn could be the difference between life and death, even moreso during combat on your own.

Magic Materia is pretty straight-forward, you two have used them already." In this she looked at Kayne and Shadow. "Summon Mataria is of a slightly different nature. You will notice that it has an AP cost like normal summons, however, there is a list of unique commands in the Materia information segment. Summons, powerful creatures locked within each orb, are called out, fighting alongside that player, and issuing it's own random commands.

Summons share the same base stats as a player, but are doubled. They will randomly use their commands during combat, however, can only use certain commands once or twice. As they level up, summons can use these commands more frequently - really giving the player an edge."

Yuffie's instruction was suddenly cut short as the Dark Fang finally darted forward, powerful leg muscles bulging as it prepared itself to lunge. It's large curving mouth opening wide, the creature propelled itself upwards, claws digging deep as it slammed hard into Shadow, the force driving him to the ground. Dust flung upwards from the impact, as the Dark Fang proceeded to gorge the young warrior, taking a savage bite out of the right side of his neck.

"Damn it!" Yuffie cried. During the scenario she had retrieved her pinwheel, but it was already too late, the Dark Fang had once more retreated to a safe distance, it's teeth now tainted with blood and bits of Shadow's flesh...

Just as the dust settled around the form of Shadow having been attacked, Yuffie, Kayne and Sage turned as they heard more footsteps; their weapons primed and at the ready for further confrontations. Yet, what appeared from out of the shadows was not a monster as they had expected, but a well-dressed and prestene young man. Yuffie approached him, seeing that no one else had accompanied him. His features seemed to tug at her, but for some reason she could not place him.

"Strange, considering his dress sense. But he does look really familiar. Have we met somewhere before?" The sound of the Dark Fang's howl brought Yuffie out of her reverie. "Here..." She placed a package into his grasp. "Use this and help these guys out!"

A new warrior clad in white arrived arrogantly on the scene. Long blond streaks of perfectly kept hair flowed around his face, it screamed 'spoiled brat' and 'rich bitch' in every sense of the words. Unblemished skin met unblemished clothes, it was enough to make Sage sick. The undistinguished teacher acknowledged the new comer and tossed him another of the Avalanche care packages. Sage spun his baton impatiently in his right hand, making a whooshing noise as it wound around his fingers.

Tsk, he probably thinks HE'S here to save the day, Sage thought jealously, I won't give him the chance to even see combat! He continued spinning his weapon as he marched right up to the new 'threat', eyes never moving off the surveying white jerk. Right hand snapped at attention as he passed just in front of Yukio, the baton soared within inches of his face!

'Bahamut go,' he started calmly as he caressed the ruby materia with his thumb, 'show 'em what you've got.'

No sooner had the words separated from his lips when the orb spooled sporadically to life, a hue of red and amber glistened in the dark and dreary cave. Suddenly a round circle appeared in front of the summoning right hand, lines spun of their own volition forming ancient symbols. Line words formed like writing on a chalkboard slowly tracing their way around the circle, working further inward as they passed. Suddenly the large ritual in the sky stopped, flashed once. Then vanished leaving only a lingering memory.

The silence in the cave was humiliating.

'Psh, all that for a dud. Great work professor! So what's this other one do? Tell the baddies a ghost story, and hope they run away scared?!'

A low rumbled emanated through the cave, the sound sent shivers down Sage's spine. Earth and rock shifted in their dismal roots, shaking free and crashing in the distance. Sage let his right hand droop, finally taking it out of the stuck-up boy's face, realization struck him like a ton of bricks. And his left hand struck his face in disgust.

Maybe it did work, yeah...it probably did, he mused to himself, but did I expect it to materialize IN A CAVE?! A deafening dragon roar accompanied his thoughts, apparently the beast was trying to head his command!

The scythe wielder in the group took usage of a materia as well.
Shortly after, in came a new person, Kayne decided to make up his meanings about him later, as they had a battle to work out.

The one with the baton tried to use the materia, and was disappointed.
Kayne did not reply to his whining, he simply stood there with a grin.
As the apparent summoned creature WAS there, thus his instructions on the usage of the materia was correct.
However, summoning a flying creature in a cave... Interesting.

As the scythe wielder had been attacked by the night fang. Kayne took it on himself again to attack.

He sat his staff on the ground in front of himself, and focused his thoughts.
"Lightning - Bolt 1" He said with a loud voice.
The lightning as before, struck from no where, almost as there where a thundercloud in the cave at his bidding.
The lightning bolt hit the night fang in the back, again disrupting his nerve systems in a spasm again. Thought short lived.

Kayne looked at his materia, "Lets test this one out" he stated as the grin dissapeared.
"Steal" he muttered, as he ran towards the night fang, almost guided by the materia, instead of his own legs.

"do you know how much that hurt?" shadow said getting up and preparing himself for another attack on Dark Fang. "well i do still have a few potions so i'll use one" shadow said putting action to his words. "aaaaah that's better. now then time to use a different materia. BURN FROM THE POWER OF FIRE-1" shadow said and the creature had flame come out of it, showing it was a successful hit. on top of that, the creature became distracted by the flames. "if your going to steal something, steal it now!" shadow yelled at the man who he recognized as using a steal materia.

Location: Cosmo Canyon - Forbidden Caves

Soft, repetitive thuds were heard, as Yukio made his way through the Forbidden Caves, a place of wonder, confusion, and warrior-driven tragedy. Yukio found the terrain of these surroundings a bit more favorable than the up-in-the-cliff-shop he had visited moments earlier. Yukio paused for a moment, examining the surface of the surrounding rocky walls. The color was what caught his attention, an emerald illumination covering the brown rocks. It reminded him of the mako springs he'd occasionally found in his travels. In some areas, there would be a surplus of mako energy, that rushed to the surface and formed a sort of 'crystallized spring,' beautiful to look upon, but equally dangerous as it was attractive. They say that a person who is not used to mako, could become overpowered, and die from mako poisoning. That was what concerned Yukio the most, that perhaps these caverns held within it certain dangers that the zealous AVALANCHE decided not to mention to their brave young comrades.

But, a person would tear Yukio away from his worrisome observations, and that someone...was familiar, indeed. "Yuffie! Well, well, what a surprise." Yukio grinned at the Wutai thief, subtly giving her the 'glance over.' Yuffie wasn't a bad-looking girl, and Yukio was quite glad to see her. He was afraid this quest for self-worth and honor would end up a complete sausage fest. As Yuffie handed him his starter back, Yukio found himself a bit too busy with his own thoughts of narcissism and ego-worship that he completely ignored Yuffie mentioning that he found him familiar, but didn't remember him. Yukio was the sort of man that boosted up his own ego by being, well...occasionally delusional.

It was only when he heard the not-too-distant roar of a massive beast that he managed to yank himself back to reality, and would quickly slap the two red orbs of summon materia into the handle of his battle rifle, which he still kept concealed at his side. The other items were just stuffed into an inner pocket. As Yuffie escorted him toward the battle before him, he couldn't help but wonder why his heart was not beating any faster. He was about to join a battle! Yukio shrugged off his thoughts, only to be disturbed by a dirtied kid, with some serious anger issues. The boy swung at him with a stun rod, and missed his flawless features by mere inches. Yukio, being a rather tall individual, just grinned down at the kid, and with his left hand, placed it at the top of his head, pushing him back and away from him, just in time for the kid to 'summon' Bahamut. Yukio couldn't help but laugh at the boy, especially after his attempt seemed to fail, horribly. "Tough luck, kid."

With his left, gloved hand remaining planted on the brat's head, Yukio would slip his right hand inside of his coat, snatching out the main body of his prized ivory battle rifle, and with a few following clicks, single-handedly would assemble his battle rifle fully, and would hold it out in front of him. If Sage hated him for being better and cooler looking than he was, he'd really hold a grudge after seeing the pretty boy assemble a battle rifle one-handed, glance through the scope, aim, and shoot.

To add a little insult to injury, Yukio would shove the kid back, and walk closer to the beast, yet keeping a safe distance between himself and the monster. Yukio had a varied style of combat, but for the most part, he preferred staying toward the back, and dealing long-range damage with his beloved ivory rifle. The kid with the anger management problem would have to be dealt with later, he had bigger fish to fry, so to speak. Yukio was going to need both hands to use his weapon effectively, and so he would press the stock against his shoulder, right hand on the trigger, and left hand holding it steady so that he could use his single-shot 'sniper mode.' With his right eye focusing through the scope, he'd aim at the beast's eye, and fire. After he felt the knock-back from that shot, he'd refocus on the monster's face, still aiming at the eye, or what may be left of it, and once he was focused on it, would fire again. Yukio didn't even grimace from the knock-back of his battle rifle, and repositioned it once more for one more shot. Ready, aim, fire!

A million points of miniscule illuminous light emerged, one by one, into existence. As the summon materia hubbed with power, those points of light began to merge with one another, creating a portal into another place and time. Shielding their eyes from it's near-blinding brilliance, Yuffie, Sage, Shadow, Kayne and Tokugawa watched on as a large dragon descended onto our plain of reality. Large arched wings stretched back as Bahamut roared, filling the cavern with an echoing purge.

Reaching up one clawed hand, Bahamut struck out, slashing savagely across the chest of the Dark Fang, the sound of ripped flesh and the creature's mournful howl set the hair rising on everyone around them.

Yuffie glanced towards the young man. Attacking with that concealed battle rifle had once again tugged at something deep within her memories, but she still could not yet fully grasp it. "Just where have I seen him before?!" She slowly shook her head, remembering her duty during this combat trial.

"Weapons are of two main types, melee or long range. Melee weapons have a chance of inflicting a random critical strike, but cannot damage opponents who are long-range. Long-range weapons will never attain a critical chance, but can attack opponents from any range." She glanced momentarily at Tokugawa. "Unless there have been certain modifications which switch the critical chances around." She paused, shaking her head at a faint thought. "You all have a main weapon and a sub weapon. Every time you use a weapon, it will obviously increase it's wear and tear. Slashing through monster bones and guts takes it's toll you know! Main weapons degrade at a standard rate, whilst sub weapons degrade faster. Weapons can be restored with a special tonic found at weapon shops. Degradation penalties come into effect at certain points of use. Players will be notified of these during combat."

She turned, looking at the poor excuse of a monster that the team were expertly dispatching. "I suppose I should give them SOME praise for handling themselves in such an EASY battle." She turned to them all, seeing them blindly look at her. "Well? ... Finish it off already!"

No sooner had she spoke when the creature attempted one final rallying assault. For some reason, it seemed drawn to Shadow, as if compelled to finish off it's earlier successful attack. With the last of it's remaining strength, the Dark Fang sprang forward, darting wide of Bahamut and Sage, ducking under the swing of Kayne's weapon, and leaping behind several boulders in order to avoid any of those penatrating bullets from Tokugawa. Finally, Shadow was in it's sights. It lunged ripping through his chest with teeth and claws in a maddening display.

The heavy hand of the jerk in white shoved Sage into the darkness, capsizing his unstable legs and sending him crashing towards the ground. Several deafening shots fired causing momentary loss of hearing. For a brief moment, Sage contemplated not stretching out his hands to protect himself, not getting back up, not trying again. The cavernous earth seemed to open up, ready to swallow him at will. But then he felt a foreign hot, sticky wind wash over him. Felt the powerful beating wings as they regally swept over his sides, and he stretched out a hand...

The massive muscular frame of the sky dragon descended next to Sage, it reared back its heavy head and blasted a song of power echoing through the cave. It's scaled claw streaked along the skyline as it dug into the writhing Dark Fang. Oh how he wished he could see the look on the pompous rich boy's face now!

Resolve strengthened, Sage planted his hand in the mouth of the hungry earth, hoisting himself high into the air then somersaulted to his feet, skidding along the barren earth. His fingers twisted the baton freely in his grasp and slammed the weapon home, collapsing it into his holster. Fluidly, his right hand reached up under his shirt and freed from his bandoleer a single, high impact grenade. Bringing the explosive weapon to his mouth and wrenching out the pull-pin with his teeth he caught his descending slide with his free left hand and lobbed the destructive device menacingly at the target.

'That oughta show that white retard! Oh shit!...hope that doesn't pull the whole cave down around us...' he thought excitedly, '
psh, who cares. It'll at least look flashy!'
