Does ANYBODY else like Vaan?

How does this qualify Vaan as a bad character?

Because OMG HE TALKS LIEK A GAY AND HE SHOWS HIS BODY SO HES A GIRL FAIL!!!11!

Actually, all characters in Final Fantasy XII were designed to have sparse clothing, or at least show a fair amount of skin, to reflect the heat of the world. The only person who isn't really is Baltheir, he's got to be absolutely melting in those leather trousers.

I hated using him in towns. I would have rather liked using Princess Ashe as my on screen character in towns. Vaan was not even the main character. The main character in reality was Princess Ashelia. She was the one who vowed to defend her Empire against Archadia. Vaan was more of just someone who wanted to fly, but at the same time just help the party members. The Dawn shard, Treaty blade, Sun cryst.. all of those terms are really important in Ashelia's storyline. So yeah I did not like Vaan. I did open up to him slightly at the end... but just not much at all. I am glad he knows how to fly now and brought Penelo with him. Ashelia however, was the MAIN character.

nope, don't like him. he was useless and didn't make a great main character. Reks would've been cooler. i wasn't really sure what to do with him either. after i learned i could change characters he never lead again. he was my weakest character

........he's better then Firion, OK/Lunith, Squall, Tidus, and definently Lightning IMO :P

Personally i loved Vaan... even though he isn't really special in the game and neither is Penelo but I enjoyed his attempts at being funny and everybody just being like "God i can't believe he just said that." it was great. and also you gotta have a liking for how strong he is since he lost his whole family to the war but he still tried to follow his dreams till he actually had them come true.

he looks like a weird rent boy that doesn't quite know how to dress himself.

and dude vaan is a homeless orphan... of course he cant dress himself properly...

Its not so much that I hate him, hes just....irrelevant, and pointless

He just adds nothing to the game, so i never got attached to him as a character and it irritated me that he was the main playable

I really like Vaan. He's a different type of protagonist. I enjoy watching his subtle relationship with Penelo; how he tries to make his dreams of becoming a Sky Pirate into a reality and how he tries to help the world despite being so insignificant.

I've never considered Vaan to be the main character. To me that'll always be Ashe. I mean, she's the FOCAL POINT of the entire plot - how is she not the main character? I've always thought that the story was simply told through Vaan's eyes.

His attire may be questionable (if not god-awful :P) but that's not really a reason to hate him. He's a sweet and gentle guy who's simply thrown into the midst of a worldwide war. I think his voice is a lot less grating than Tidus' aswell.

I would have liked more importance to his character (say with a plot-twist involving Reks - that would have been juicy), but I think he's fine just the way he is.

I don't really have an opinion of Vaan. I can't remember a single feature of his personality... I couldn't even recall his desire to fly a ship until I read through this thread. :ness: I did remember his wanting to save Penelo! ^_^

Like others, I have always felt that the story was told through his eyes. The main characters were Ashe and Bache (who was perhaps my favourite character!), aided by Balthier, Fran and Lord Larsa (who looks like a girl...). Larsa would have been a better party member. He could have been used very well, actually. :hmm:

I liked vaan I dont really know why so many people have such animosity towards him but i guess everybody is entitled to their own opinion, i will say that as a character there wasnt too much depth to him but i just thought he looked cool.

He felt out of place when the story started for me. I leveled him up to be a decent player character then switched to using others when Basch came in. It was ridiculous of him to go shouting out 'DONT LISTEN TO ONDORE'S LIES' etc etc later on. I don't blame him, he tried his best but as others did say: Ashe is the main character. It's more or less seeing Ashe's story through Vaan's perspective in most scenes.

In terms of character, I prefer the others compared to Vaan. He's just a kid who wants to venture Ivalice. Not much of a story unless its like FFV.

I personally liked Vaan, I mean his voice was a bit rough and didn't quite match him, but it wasn't unbearable. I use him in my main party, not as the party leader however, but he's still in my main party.

In a war between Empires that's quite honestly bigger than him, he plays the role of the eyes for the player. He isn't super powered, there's nothing special about him, he's there for us to have an outside look of things while Basch, Asche, and Balthier (All who had a good amount of character development) do what they have to do.

Since this kind of literary tactic hasn't really been used in an FF game I can see why it catches people off guard but the flack he gets is a bit much.

Hadn't they already done all of that with Tidus?

i was curious how Vaan will fit into the story considering his uselessness in fighting, well it turned out horrible. The rest of the crew (except peleno) are pretty good and well executed imo.
Edit: Yes, i'm aware of how he and penelo acts as the narrator but i still can't understand why they were allowed to tagg along or why do they even want to tagg along to begin with, they are kids lol. They're just there for no reason, that's why i don't have any particular feeling toward both of them, which is a bad thing

I didn't dislike Vaan, nor did I like him. I just felt....numb :(

He's probably the blandest main character I've played as. Before the game was released I was expecting him to be a kind of Luke Skywalker character. He gets involved in something much bigger than him and grows and becomes something great at the end of the game. Instead he's just kind of there. I always felt like Vaan was just along for the ride which along with a lacklustre story and ridiculously long dungeons, it was hard to keep going in parts. I think the reason I went as far as to beat the game was simply because it was a Final Fantasy game and I couldn't leave it unfinished D:

Vann is too plain and dull (much like the entirety of XII) for me to care strongly about him one way or the other. Compared to his predecessors, he pales in comparison. ):

No I dont care for Vaan. I like a little more substance to my FF characters. Vaan is a little on the dull side and is one dimensional.

Personally. I had no problem with Vaan. There are always going to be characters like him in FF. His major setback was stubbornness and the fact you had a badass fighter and a suave ladies man to compare him to. Hell, you put a kid up against a medieval Jason Statham and James Bond, see who's gonna be standing last in line.

I think the main problem with Vaan is that he's pretty dull and boring and has really no reason for tagging along for the whole story. Which would be fine...if he wasn't meant to be the main character. It's like...Kimahri in X being the protagonist, or Irvine from VIII - they're fine on the side, something to beef out the party and add that tiny bit of story, but in general they're not a big enough character to lead. I don't hate Vaan, I don't care about him, and that's the problem; I'm supposed to care about the main character.

Xx..xX

Honestly, it would have been better if he wasn't there. He didn't do much. Only talked in a boring way and his fake abs just can't impress us. No, big fail XD Him and Penelo.

No I didn't like him. In FF12 we felt too annoying and whiny and like most of the FF12 troop, he had no character or character backstory whatsoever.

I thought about giving him a chance in Dissidia 012 since some FF mates said that Vaan actually isn't that bad, and I felt like he was worse than he was in the actual FF12 game. He was snobby, rude, and just said some downright rude things. Not to mention he downright forced Onion Knight to be his little brother, when OK was like "F- off, I don't want to be brothers with you " But nope, Vaan was in some kind of denial.
:thehell:
