hey just a bit confused about something in the story just now.

I just beat the sanctum leader, the old guy, turns out he was a fal'cie right?
but after I beat him, he wasn't dead(??) and then he goes on to talk to me and tell me what I have to do etc... why is helping me now? that's the part I don't really get.

if it's explained later on in the story, then just say that, cause I don't wanna be told a spoiler if I don't have to

As I recall, he kind of explains it in that cutscene itself.

Barthandelus wants the party to slay Orphan and bring the destruction of Cocoon - making Snow realise that contrary to what Serah told them, they were never tasked with protecting Cocoon.

And therefore Barthandelus wants the party to succeed their Focus and has been secretly aiding the party now and then.
