BACKSTORY
a story of uprising and rebellion against a usurped throne
Crystair, a land once ruled by a kind and gracious King. For uncounted centuries, the same bloodline sat upon the Crystal Throne, and the Kingdom did flourish undisturbed by the blood of war. It was a beautiful land, with silvery trees and lakes of the clearest, shimmering blue. To the east, upon the glittering horizon, one would see the Dark Spire that represented the land of Umbra, its' tip forever shrouded in a gloomy darkness. To the West lay Precipia, the land of the Winged Ones, though they have long since gone into hiding. a story of uprising and rebellion against a usurped throne
That changed on the day that the Dark Army marched against Crystair. Soldiers battled upon the fields of war, shedding blood that had not be split in centuries. The Crystairian Army fought valiantly and barely managed to push the Dark Ones back. That was just the beginning, however.
So began the Perpetual Darkness.
There has long been a legend told to the children of Crystair; a fabled story of the one known only as "Lionheart". In these takes, he is a courageous man with the bravery of a hundred men and the ability to control the purest of light. It is said that with this light, "Lionheart" could destroy the darkest of evils, cleanse the hearts of the weary and relay messages of the recently and long dead. Eventually, the children stopped believing in this hero. Such a great man existed only in takes, did he not?
Perhaps the most skeptical of all who heard these legends was the young Crown Prince. Even at the tender age of four, he found these heroic tales just a little hard to digest. On the one hand, he wished such a man existed, for the war with Umbra would finally come to an end and his parents wouldn't keep him under literal lock and key. Yet another part of him knew such people did not exist outside of children's dreams. That these heroes were nothing more than characters in stories to aid the children of the world to sleep easier and feel safer in their beds.
Umbra, the land of Eternal Darkness... no good had ever crossed its' border with the fair Crystair. Even as the war between the two kingdoms raged on, a new power slowly rose deep within the capital's shadowy bowels. In just one year, this new power rose to the top and killed the then Queen in cold blood. Umbra had a new king; a man so dark that the shadows themselves seemed light in comparison.
He was a patient man... and so he waited. His opportunity would come to take the eternally beautiful land of Crystair.
Just after the Prince's fourth birthday, a strange, bloodstained child was found wandering the village just outside the castle. A dagger gripped in her hand and her face and limbs smeared with the crimson lifeforce of the dead, the child was easily mistaken for an orphan of war. However, she had not merely found the dagger after witnessing her parents' demise; rather, she had indulged in the murder of a rather offensive man who seemed to think that she would potter along to his home with him if he offered her sweet things. The young boy that found her did not think of things that way, however. A brave child, he approached the girl and guided her to his house where she was quickly cleaned up and fed.
For four years, the girl refused to speak and the family into which she had been adopted feared that perhaps the child was mute. She squashed this believe when she spoke the name of the boy who had saved her, and taken her under his wing. For a further four years, the girl spoke only to her new brother, and would often follow him to watch him as part of the Royal Guard. It was on these little trips that the girl often saw the young Prince, and in time, she went with her brother more to catch glimpses of the boy rather than to watch the training. The girl was slightly envious that her brother seemed to be on quite friendly terms with the handsome young Prince.
Still the Tyrant (as he had been named by this time) and his Dark General; a man clad in dark armor who seemed to be made of the shadows more than he was human, waited.
The Prince reached his twelfth birthday and with the celebrations, came the awakening of his inner light. A single solider survived a skirmish on the Umbran border, only to die upon making it to his King. The Prince, however, was able to relay a message from the recently deceased, using a skill known as "Converse", to his father. This ability saved many lives that day as the King was able to call out his men and create an ambush which ultimately prevented the Dark Army from taking command of the border.
The Queen, fearful at the enlightenment of her son, appealed to the girl's adopted parents. Her wings had just sprouted, revealing her to be of the Winged Clan (Natural born assassins). Knowing the ferocity and loyalty of her kind, the Queen took her on as his bodyguard.
So the Prince and Assassin finally met. The guard was promoted to Commander of the Royal Guard shortly after and the trio merged fully as a force. It would be this bond that proved vital just six years later.
Finally, the time had come for the Tyrant to take Crystair and he did so with little, to no resistance. Having waited so long in the darkness of Umbra, his forces had grown to outnumber those of Crystair. Not just men, but creatures and beings from the darkness depths of Acheron...
It was not so much an invasion as an out and out massacre.
The Prince, Assassin and Commander made it to the throne rooms seconds too late. The King and Queen lay slaughtered, Crystair's new ruler sitting upon the Crystal Throne. Upon resting his eyes upon the Prince, the Tyrant ordered his immediate death. However, the Assassin lived up to her title of the Prince's bodyguard by dispatching all that came his way.
This is where our story begins. I must get the Prince out of the castle and to safety. There are others who we must try to save along the way, but ultimately, the Prince's survival is the key. My Brother is fighting to help us escape. I don't know how long we have.
Meet with us and help our Prince... or stand against us and be cut down.
The decision is yours.

The Winged Ones
A race of beings that were created by the Gods to be the perfect Assassin. The Gods, however, had not counted upon the gradual loss of humanity that came with every life taken. Over time, the Winged One transform into a demon of pure darkness (around the age they hit maturity - nineteen human years), losing any shred of humanity they may have had left.
The Winged Ones very in appearance, but always sprout wings around the age of thirteen. Typically, these wings are black but other, dark colours, have been known to exist. Up to Maturity, Winged Ones look very much like an average human aside from the wings for which they were named.

so I think that's everything covered. I've restarted this due to being asked to by several people... Let's hope it lasts longer this time, neh.
Once accepted and just before the starting post for the RP is posted, you will each be PM'd by me, informed you of where you start and what you're basic objective us. You will then be PM'd as the RP progresses, to give you a general path you should head towards, without spoiling what is going to happen for everyone else (so let's not push ahead too much, neh?)
