Growlanser is a series of real-time strategy role-playing games by Career Soft. The Growlanser games feature fantasy worlds, political intrigue, and vivid characters. Growlanser has a classic Japanese visual novel style, anime art style, and unique battle system. Currently there are six installments and two port remakes. Growlanser is property of Atlus.

Growlanser 1 (PSX and PSP)
An RPG with a real-time battle system. Growlanser was on Sony Playstation 1 and was released in Japan in November 1999. The protagonist is silent and the player may determine his personality. A personality test at the beginning of the game determines the main character's stats and skills. The game has a complex story with branching paths and vivid characters. There are dating simulation elements as there are several party characters to build relationships with. This affects the multiple endings that become available. Some characters can only be recruited after fulfilling certain conditions.

Growlanser 2 The sense of Justice (Contained in Growlanser Generations)
GROWLANSER II is more like a side-story of GROWLANSER I rather than a true sequel, released on Playstation 2. It starts taking place while the events of Growlanser I are still happening. With Growlanser I as a background, several of the previous characters appear again here, including the protagonist of Growlanser I, Carmaine, with a voice. The game play is more like a tactical RPG than its predecessor; the world map and locations are not explorable fields, characters are spoken to by menus, and the party is now 8 count. The battle system is basically the same as Growlanser I but with a few improvements. Also instead of standard equipment, there is a "ring weapon" system that utilizes "gems" which give certain features to the characters in battle. Like Growlanser I, the game has a personality test which affects stats and skills, branching paths, and character affection building. The English version was released in Growlanser Generations bundled with GROWLANSER III, published by Working Designs.

Growlanser 3 The Dual Darkness (Contained in Growlanser Generations)
GROWLANSER III is a distant prequel to GROWLANSER I and II's setting, 1000 years ago where the sun is dying and the people must find a way to save themselves. The game goes back to a 4-count party and with explorable map and towns. The battle system is almost identical to GROWLANSER II's except now powerful spells must be cast by two characters cooperating. The protagonist is unvoiced like the original Growlanser, and his personality is shaped by the player's actions. Dialog choices become more limited according to the personality the player takes.

GROWLANSER III was released in Japan in December 2001 published by Atlus, and in North America bundled with GROWLANSER II in December 2004 published by Working Designs.

Growlanser 4 (Ps2 and PSP)
Ps2
GROWLANSER IV is set in a new setting from the previous games and has no story continuity with them, however there is a loose connection that is only revealed in the text-based sequel, Return. It continues the same battle system and dating sim element with an epic new story. Like Growlanser III, the party is 4-count and area-of-effect magic spells require two characters using cooperation magic. Continuing the Growlanser tradition, there are multiple endings dependent on player's interaction with characters. It is the greatest Growlanser title in that its related publications are most extensive of the series.

Psp
Growlanser IV is renovated and ported to Sony PlayStation Portable in summer 2011. It includes new characters, story routes, endings, events and animated cut-scenes. It has been promoted to have so much new content that players of the original PlayStation 2 version will still feel like they are playing a brand new game. North American localization is titled Growlanser Wayfarer of Time.

Sorry no current Gameplay video (Its similar to Growlanser 3 with some changes)

Growlanser 5 (Jp: Generations) (EU: Heritage of War)
The first 3-D Growlanser game. The battle system is also revamped from previous Growlansers. The player character must be controlled by the console controller during battle in the Japanese version; this was changed in the English version as the player character may be fully commanded by the menu. A new skill plate system called the 'ability tree system' is implemented that allows customization of party members. The battle system also makes use of AI-controlled party members by default which the player may customize, however the mission battles default to being without AI automation.

Generations was released in Japan in August 2006 and the North American version in September 2007 renamed as Heritage of War. Like previous Growlansers, the theme of war is a major part of the story. The story is introduced through different characters' point of views in the prologue, and there are additional chapters to unlock. The story and setting are unrelated to previous Growlanser games.

Growlanser 6 Precarious World
A direct sequel to GROWLANSER V. Set in the same world, it uses the same engine and battle system as its predecessor. Likewise, graphics are 3D and there are anime cut-scenes. Many characters from GROWLANSER V make an appearance, including the previous protagonist, Zeonsilt, this time with a voice. Like all Growlanser games, there is a "character creation" introduction and party member affection building.

I have played all of them so if you have any question dont doubt in asking me.

Sadly it is a underrated Series which I kinda hate, I love my copies of Growlanser II & III since I managed to find the Growlanser Generations box at a Hastings, I never heard of the game but the Art style caught my eye and decided to pick it up.

I really loved the combat system, storyline, characters, and the twists the games gave me, I still play them very frequently to this day.

Growlanser III Is my personal favorite but I loved II as well, I do hope the PSP game makes it over to the USA.

Tbh I love the man who makes the Characters in the game Satoshi Urushihara I think his name was.

I loved how he made each character, their clothing, and their various emotional looks/battle scarring.

If the PSP game comes out I'm gonna buy it XD any chance to see how much farther the game has come.

I didnt get that, you said you hate that the series is underrated or you hate the series?.

I will assume you like it, this is my favorite series along with persona (They even surpass any FF for me) and i played the japanese ones (First time i played a japanese game), i hope the one from PSP sells well enough to warrant a release of the port of Growlanser 1 from psx.

If i assumed correctly then is good to know another Growlanser fan:megusta2:
