Next month, “the biggest game in the world returns,” according to the ‘next issue’ page in the latest Official PlayStation Magazine UK. Our only hint as to what it is? A huge “3″ in the center of the page.
I think it’s safe to say this is inevitable reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but as always, we can’t be sure until it’s announced.
      Thanks, PushSquare.

Rumor – Modern Warfare 3 reveal in OPM next month

Official PlayStation Magazine UK is teasing a reveal for its Junes 8 issue, and it looks as though it could be Modern Warfare 3.

The ad posted on PushSquare says: “The biggest game in the world returns,” along with a rather large, and green number 3 plastered on the page.
A June reveal would be about right, because that seems to be the magic month for Call of Duty reveals.
We heard rumblings yesterday that Activision was to announce something CoD-related in New York last night, and Rock, Paper, Shotgun had heard that the firm was poised to announce Call of Duty Online.
Rumors over an online version of the shooter have been running rampant in for what seems like ages.
Speculation reached a higher pitch when during Activision’s last call to investors, it announced the formation of Beachhead Studios, and the sole purpose of the team is to create new digital content for the Call of Duty series. The creation of this “all-new digital platform” for the CoD franchise would come complete with a suite of online services to “super charge the online experience,” while “integrating online and console together for the first time.”
The Beachhead project has been in development for over a year, and more information on the studio along with content and services plans is expected to be announced sometime or another.
Last night, RPS heard that the new announcement could be Activision’s bid to go up against EA’s Battlefield Play4free, but was unsure if the Activision offering would be browser-based or not.
So, with the latest rumor from OPM, it looks like we can expect two possible announcements from the firm soon. Fingers crossed.
      Thanks, AHA-Lambada.

Sources who’ve seen the next ‘Call of Duty’ claim it continues the story of ‘Modern Warfare 2′ and offers larger scale maps with destructible environments.

After all the hype and reports of announcements regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and a potential major announcement regarding it or Call of Duty online yesterday during the Activision Blizzard first quarter conference call, we ended up hearing nothing new. Instead, we’re told that we’ll see the next Call of Duty in the coming weeks which translates to a big Activision presentation at E3.

It is one of the biggest game franchises ever though, so we couldn’t let a day go by without a new news item or rumor. The latest insider info explains that the next game is in fact Modern Warfare 3 (not Project Colossus) which will feature larger scale maps and battles, finally introducing destructible environments.

Kotaku has the scoop from sources who’ve seen Modern Warfare 3 in action. They explain that the game picks up from where Modern Warfare 2 left off, after the attack on U.S. soil but that it won’t be like Homefront. Much of the game will feature an urban setting with tanks and other vehicles traversing civilian streets and the story may set the foundation or hint at a World War III type scenario.

The game will see the return of Modern Warfare staple characters Captain “Soap” MacTavish and Captain Price but more excitingly, will add destructible environments, ones that are on a much larger scale than the previous installments.

Destructible environments and vehicles are something the Battlefield series has held over Call of Duty for some time, but what does that mean for its main selling point: the multiplayer? Will there be drivable vehicles on large-scale maps for the first time in the series?

While it’s good to see Infinity Ward, with the help of Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, working to continue/conclude the Modern Warfare series, the question becomes whether or not what they’re doing with Modern Warfare 3 is enough to not only take a large leap forward from the last few games in the series, but to compete with Battlefield 3 which already features these things but with a new game engine and better graphics?

As good as the Modern Warfare titles were, notably for their multiplayer, the narrative story told through the single player campaign suffered through awkward loading screens which acted as explanation of current events and briefings for the missions. Hopefully, Modern Warfare 3 does away with that and offers an in-game substitue so players can get into a compelling story rather than just a fast-paced shooter.

Expect more soon in just a matter of weeks.

      Update

Logos and box cover art have surfaced for ‘Modern Warfare 3′ and ‘Call of Duty Elite’ and they certainly look real.

During the Activision Blizzard first quarter conference call on Monday, little to no news of significance was revealed about the next Call of Duty. We know it’s coming and we know Infinity Ward is working hard to have it done for this fall, but we have to wait until E3 next month for the actual reveal and official confirmation.

Until then, the internet will be subject to countless rumors and speculation which began yesterday with a report indicating that the next game will definitely be a continuation of IW’s last game and will be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, reportedly adding larger-scale battles and destructible environments. Today we have what may be the Modern Warfare 3 cover art along with a neat logo for Call of Duty Elite.

We’re rather confident that the next game from Activision and Infinity Ward is certainly Modern Warfare 3 and this box art for the PC version of the game sent to Kotaku looks legit. We also have logos for Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty Elite, the latter of which is something we’ve not heard of until today.

It’s possible that Elite is the new Call of Duty online service Activision has been talking about, potentially a subscription service which offers more to the hardcore CoD players. The only thing we can say for certain is that Activision will be pushing the envelope for online functionality with the franchise and this may be the beginning of that. Take a look at the logos and artwork:

What are your thoughts on the new logo design and more importantly, your predictions on what Call of Duty Elite is?
Call of Duty Elite might be the digital platform Activision’s Beachhead has been working on for two years, the one that will open the gates to an “unprecedented online universe” as CEO Eric Hirshberg put it. Or perhaps its the PC-centric competitor to Battlefield Play4Free (Call of Duty Online?).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to release on all major platforms on November 8, 2011.

November 8th 2011 for Modern Warfare III? For one I did not play Black ops much and I got bored of it pretty quickly. I usually just hit The max level and never prestige but in Black ops I did and it appeared to be boring. Modern Warfare III is coming out November 8th... Call of Duty games never cease to amuse me with release dates. It is like I buy the games for nothing when another one comes out so fast ! It is going to be competing with hugely anticipated games like Battlefield III and Uncharted III. Also I want to see what happens in the campaign more than play the multiplayer. I find the Multiplayer of CoD in general is a waste of time to get max level because now people will want Max level in this one. I can only see where this is going to go. If it is taking the Battlefield vibe with vehicles then.... it is essentially battlefield..

Rumor: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Perks, Weapons & Maps Leaked

Video game testing is a pretty big thing these days due to the amount of content in games and the expectations from consumers. We were contacted by an anonymous tipster who was supposedly alpha testing Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and we were able to have a brief discussion with him.

With a reveal which will hopefully come soon a lot of you may be wondering what kind of features MW3 could offer. Our source was very brief with some of the information and we only managed to get some key details to what people may find important in Modern Warfare 3. Perks, Maps & Guns where revealed during our discussion which he made clear multiple times that some details may change through out development. Our source mentioned 5 perks that were available during testing which were Scavenger, Revelations, Pointblank, lifeline & Sleight of Hand. Two of these you may be familiar with but unfortunately he only gave me a description of Pointblank & Lifeline. Pointblank is a perk which makes makes your "reticle smaller" as he described it is "Cheating in plain sight" and "Helps you hit the head", a perk that makes you more accurate at gaining head shots. Not much was shed on the perk "Lifeline" but to my understanding it is something along the lines of stopping power pro.

According to our source his weapons of choice were the Vector, Colt 45 & Pacer 56. The Pacer 56 doesn't exist, at the time I started to question the truth behind his story and he had this to say about it "It's suppose to be a new weapon imported if a new war started". Apparently, only one map was available during testing titled "Detour" which he made comparisons to Hotel in Black Ops. The pacing in Modern Warfare 3 was described as "Faster than MW2" and a apparent cover system exist in the game "Oh yeah, your suppose to be able to hold on to cover".

Pointblank? Pacer 56? Cover system? Map called "Detour"? More fast paced than Modern Warfare 2? A whole lot of new things from this interview whether or not it's real we can't confirm. But it seems that, if even SOME of these items are true the next Call Of Duty could be a bit of a twist to the franchise, especially with that cover system.

UPDATE: As previously reported , 5 perks were available in testing but it turns out that Scavenger and Revelations are the same thing. According to our source Scavenger has been renamed to Revelations. Also our source was involved in one of the first test of MW3, so yes this information is subject to change come launch.

lol I will definitely play Battlefield 3 purely for story ,but the MP is not my style...hiding in vehicles and blasting with tanks is not me style.. I couldnt care for vehicles ...

I wish MW was more realistic as in more blood and realistic gunshot wounds and damage on surroundings etc. but alas.......

I would miss zombie mode too from mw3 ..shit nazi zombie's storyline is so epic it should get its own game.

That's one of the main things that irked me about the series. If you get blasted by a sniper or shotgun it's gonna ruin you and leave a large splatter of blood behind you. The game's combat isn't as impactful as I like my combat But yeah other than that I'm kinda excited about MW3, if I decide to get it I'll most likely get it on PS3 when I have the money to actually get one

Ooooh I'm glad I visited this thread...a new Cod

I've yet to get my hands on BO...and I have Modern Warfare 2 for my ps3 that I haven't even gotten around to playing...but if Modern Warfare 3 is getting released this year I will probably buy it.

It seems like the online for these games is fairly engrossing...and while I've never been really keen with the storylines for these games the gameplay itself is fun.

Yeah, FPSs don't really have storylines. The thing about it continuing the storyline from MW2 amused me slightly as MW2 doesn't particularly have a plot. Though to be fair MW did have quite a decent story, especially for a FPS.

I don't want it to have damage to surroundings, because towards the end of a match it will be too open and you'll get killed and kill rather quickly. Nor do I want particularly realistic gunshot wounds and shit like that, gore for gore's sake is pointless. There's a couple things I'd like changed from Black Ops, no free-aiming launchers, because they're for n00bs, fixing spawning, so you don't spawn near the enemy, repower sniper rifles, or at least make rifles less powerful and bring back the emergency care package.
