      The Babysitters Club

Did any of you girls ever read this series when you were younger?

I found one of my old BSC books in my room a few weeks ago (Kristy and the Mother's Day Surprise) and decided to give it a read. I never realized how bad the books were written XD

First of all, that damn chapter 2 where they describe everyone's family in great detail.

Second, the stereotypes. Basically, it is unlikely that all these girls would be friends in real life.

Third, Claudia's outfits always get described in great detail. We are supposed to think she is cool and artsy when in reality, she sounds like a schizophrenic.

And some more fun things I noticed.

If you are in the BSC, do not ever get a hobby outside of the BSC or the entire club will shun you until you come crawling back apologizing.

All the parents in Stoneybrook are incompetent and stupid. Espeically Mr and Mrs Pike who neglect their children in favor of their eleven year old daughter to raise the seven other children. I mean, they don't expect their ten year old to clean up a spilled drink, the 11 year old must do it.

Diabetes is the equivelant of having aids

13 year olds run Stoneybrook! It's a fact. The BSC will also butt into anyone's life when they deam it is appropriate.

Why do the authors always pick on Mallory? We always get a description of how ugly she is. And she was always my favorite member XD

Dawn, she's UNIQUE! And don't you forget that!

Jessie is black and we will be reminded of that several times throughout the book.

Would you trust your children with an 11 year old for a few hours?

In Stoneybrook there is a time freeze where everyone remains their age for approximately 15 years. Also 13 years olds act like 18 year old and 11 year old like 17 year olds.

But I can't help but loving the series because I read many of the books as a child XD. I think I stopped around the time when Dawn left for good. I read a few books with Abby but not too far into them. I think I was getting too old for the BSC by the time she came around.

Here is something to enjoy for nostalgia

Oh gosh. xD Yeah I used to read the books too. Had quite a few collections, in fact, but they're long gone now. I wouldn't wanna read it now anyway, since it'll only ruin my childhood memories from back then.

Used to sing along to the intro song too, along with my brother, haha. I've always liked Mary Anne and Stacey, but Mallory and Jessica kinda bored me.

I think the question should be, "Would you trust your children with teenage boys for a few hours?" I've always found that odd.

Also, that box kit full of toys and crafts that they'd bring with them when babysitting - I've always thought the idea was kinda neat. That was one of my favorite part in the series.

I used to read these when I was younger as well. I think my sister still has an entire collection. There was also a spinoff series called The Babysitter's Little Sister or something like that. It was about Kristy's half-sister (or maybe it was her stepsister) and I used to read that one too.

I haven't read them since I was around 12 or 13 though. As you've pointed out, they probably wouldn't be nearly as good as they were then. xD

Yeah... my older sister had almost all of them. I'd read a few here and there. But was never really into them. :/ The characters were all right, but really cliche, if you ask me.

I swear I remember a cartoon for it Oh, well, been years since I read one or watched one of their movies. Can't for the life of me remember the characters names. I just know there was a tomboy and a "save the earth" type character.

I don't think I could be paid to read these books.

Yes Karen, Kristy's stepsister starred in Little Sister. XD I visited a few snark blogs and Karen is quite hated XD

Though I think I read more Little Sister books than actual babysitter's club books.

After the book series ended (I think there was about 200 books!) They started a friends forever series where it follows Kristy, Claudia, Mary Ann and Stacey in to high school. The BSC broke up and bascially the club starts going their separate ways.

There was also California diaries that followed Dawn and her friends in California (and who cares? I think Ann Martin had a serious fetish for that place) And it was basically said to be more mature and adult when it was really just very emo.

I gotta find more book series from my childhood. Wonder if I still have any Animorph books.

I bought the movie a while ago. XD

I loved the books when I was a kid. I was always reading the Baby sitters club and the Sweet Valley Twins.

The main thing I remember from the books was that they always bought a huge pizza with any left over money. It cost something crazy like $20. Seriously, how can a pizza cost $20! I can get four pizza's for that here!

But yeah good reading when I was a kid anyway. =)

      The Babysitters Club

I read A LOT of these when I was back in grade school. Looking back, like you said...its poor reads now, but it got kids to read back when I was younger. They were horribly addictive, almost like the Goosebumps books. I read most of them when I was in school because I would take a few out of the school library at the time and return them and read the rest. I never actually bought them.

I remember when the movie came out and it was all the rage I think I've seen it at least a few times...and the quality of the movie was about the same as the books. Still, its a cute/innocent movie for the tweens I guess. I'd rather have them watch it than a Hannah Montanna movie or something
