Who does Aries truly love?

My Opinion:
Being a member of the military, I understand how Aeries feels about Zack and when he was 'deployed' (so to speak) on a mission for ShinRa. While I played FF7 for the first time back in 1999, and a big Cloud fan, I feel that Zack is whom she truly loved.

This is a good thread potentially? but where is the detail and the argument and the passion? I think Aeris/Aerith loved Zack too , but Cloud was so much like Zack tha she had feelings for him too, but they were a shell of the feeling s she had for Zack Fair.

Ive said before that clouds felling for Aeris are not his but that cloud mimicked Zack to such an extreme that he took on the idea of loving Aeris beyond his normal feelings for tifa.

Who did Aeris truly love? Im gonna have to say the planet, above the other 2 choices, of course she had no desire to be killed to save the planet but she was killed not as result of the planet but rather as an obstacle to be overcome.

Being the last of her kind pt the burden on her shoulders to be able understand the planet meaning any relationship she had had to come second, right? maybe?

Im sure being in the Military you understand the ideal of Duty and sacrifice for your people?

i gotta say that aerith loves zack. she LIKED cloud a little bit because he REMINDED her of zack, for she knew that zack could never be replaced. and like galaxy said, cloud took on all the memories zack had to become his living legacy, i also believe that she loves the planet, but that is because she HAS to. all the other ancients/cetras loved and protected the planet. so that is what I think... so i agree with both of you, galaxy and disra...

I think Aeris loved Zack. Aeris did send Zack letters for 5 years so she was hopeful that he would return probably cause she couldn't hear his voice in the Lifestream. Unless Aeris was very close to him she wouldn't have sent him so many letters.

I think Cloud was way to much like Zack and Aeris grew fond of him because things like the eyes, the movements, confidence, being in Soldier all these things and more linked Cloud and Zack so Aeris found like she already knew Cloud when they first met.

I don't know what to say about the planet although Aeris was an Ancient and could hear the cry of the planet but would she have loved the planet as much if she wasn't an Ancient.

Definitely Zack because her only reason for having a crush on Cloud was because he reminded her so much of Zack. They acted similar except for Cloud's constant coldness, but she didn't mind that.

Complicated feelings toward Aerith

Both of them share feelings for Cloud. Tifa was close to Aerith, who can also be called a love rival. With that point in mind, they were also good friends. Nevertheless, it is not hard to imagine that she carries complex feelings as a woman toward Aerith, who had developed a special bond with Cloud that was different from Tifa's.

Tifa's complicated feelings continue even in Advent Children, two years after Aerith had departed the world.

So, people can think and believe that Aerith loves Zack still, but SE and Nomura has said the complete opposite. She loves Cloud for Cloud, she's moved on from Zack, and that's that.

well im gunna go out on a limb and say her mum was the one she loved most. She only ever liked cloud because she wanted to get closer to barret but he had a kid so she was a bit put off. Then she accepted it and then died.
