      The beginning mission

Okay, did anybody else here have as much fun as I did with the opening mission in Final Fantasy VII? I swear I could start a new game just to play that mission over and over again, I never get tired of it. The whole thing from getting to the point to set the bomb and running out was exciting. That and I enjoyed the train ride back. The second mission was just as good too. If they made a spin-off game that had a bunch of missions with the original crew of AVALANCHE I'd most likely get it if the missions are anywhere near as good as the first two.

Am I the only one? o.o

The opening mission wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't my favourite, and I don't think I could play a whole game full of the same, unless there was a lot of variety. Would be an interesting little side-game I suppose.

However, you're right about the fact that the second mission (and in my opinion most of the Midgar storyline) flowed quite nicely from the original sequence. I liked the battle on the Plate support structure, and the assault on Shinra HQ was pretty fun too.
While the move to the world map was obviously a necessary component of the game, I think it's a shame sometimes that the rest of the game mostly lacked the feel of the beginning. It just kind of turned into a "let's stop at every single town and look for Sephiroth, while getting involved in a minor subplot at each location" quest, and didn't pick up again until disc 2.

Aw I love the opening mission as well, I never ever tire of the start of VII ever. It's ace. Tbh, when I first played it (having NO idea of RPG's or the game itself) I just thought the whole game was gunna revolve around blowing all these 8 reactors up.

I liked the beginning two missions too, but I agree that it can get boring after a while. Also just like Dishy said, infiltrating ShinRa HQ the first time was one of the most fun parts of the game. I mean when I did it the first I couldn't believe that so early in the game the heroes were going to take on someone who seemed to be the main villain at the time, and all the complex floor structure and events that happen was really appealing.

Haha yeah, I know what you mean. The story starts off fairly simple and then does a complete 180 on ya leaving me going O__O! Didn't even feel like the same game after a while.

I think the story starts off great when I looked at the back of the cover you had to save the planet and in the first few minute's you blow up a reactor. I like that the start you weren't straight into the story until you reach the Shinra building so yeah the opening mission is still one of my favorite bit's just to play for a bit of fun.

      Me too,

And I agree, I liked the first couple of missions. They were really fun and chalk full of a lot of interesting things. It was just really enjoyable to play through. I really liked see Cloud be so bad by setting bombs and defusing them.

Plus, I like seeing Cloud and Jessie flirt. It's cute.

Cloud: "But I'M... we're here for you, right?"

I thought the same exact thing when I first played also. While I do enjoy playing FFVII very much and the beginning part ( I consider until you exit Midgar the beginning) I am not sure I would enjoy a game with the avalanche members doing missions. I think it would be something fun to try out but not something that I would get into fully.

The first mission pretty much sums up the awesomeness of the whole game. I mean just seeing the 2 basic magic spells at the begging still looks cool. It also has sence of atmosphere about it the whole feel of getting you pumped to go and blow up a reactor with a cold hearted mercanary... cool and fun. Hitting the first boss with 3 bravers was simply brilliant.

I liked the feel of the opening missions, it was a good way to get you immediately involved in the story, rather than just starting off wandering around in a town talking to NPCs about an ancient legend you've heard, which is how RPGs occasionally start off Which I like that too sometimes, just not in every game as a standard.

"So I dunno, she's like, 'Move your skulls to the basement 'cause I got these drapes.' I don't even get that. I'm like 'Honey, this is work.' I can't..."

      "
      Are you serious?"

      "
Yeah, I can't put 'em in the f"%*ing basement. I mean..."

      "
      No... No..."

      "
And she's like, 'Y'know, could you put a tarp over 'em also?'"

      "
      Oh, no way..."

      "
I just felt like, 'No... I'm not... %"&$, damn it!'"
