Character setup

So last time I played FF12 I got near the end. I usually like setting all my chars up for brute force. This time around I want to set them up how they were meant. What chars are meant for what? Like White mage black mage etc. I do not have the FF12 international though.

I'm not honestly sure there is any presets. There aren't any real clues. In every other Final Fantasy game, you can kind of tell just by the original weapon a character uses or the aesthetic clues that are given through the person's physique and clothing. It's kind of hard to tell in FFXII. Everyone is androgenous and very skinny. Basch is definitely a fighter... but I'm not sure the rest have any real combat orientation.

Historically, girls are stereotypically more magic-based than males. So that probably means Penelo, Vaan, and bunny-lady are your casters. But I'm not really sure. With the inclusion of green magicks and that sort of thing, it could very easily mean that Fran was suppose to be more of a support character while others were the primary hitters.

Well I know the characters come with stuff. Like Fran comes with a bow. Should I keep her using a bow and put heavy armor on her? Or what does she compliment the best? I usually keep Vaan and Basch as my heavy hitters. Penelo is more like a white mage? Fran is like a green or red mage? And Amalia is like a black mage? What suites them best?

i tried to do what you did aswel, although everyone just ended up with swords once i got deathbringers..

Ive kept fran and Balthier as ranged fighters though...although i dont need that anymore now i have telekenisis....(i think its that anyway)

Although, in short

Bathier - guns
Fran - bows & magic
Penelo -magic & daggers
vaan - one handed swords?
Basch - big swords
ashe - Big swords?

Thats just abit of a guess tbh, but thats what i think anyway... i tried to keep it like that, but it didnt stay taht setup for long

i put them in this way:

Bathier - guns or poles(he looks good with them)
Fran - bows or spears(she looks good with them)
Penelo - staff or rods or daggers
vaan - any swords
Basch - big swords, axes
ashe - swords

The beauty of FFXII is the fact that the class of the characters is entirely your choice, that's why there's so many different weapon types.

My team consisted of:

Vaan - One-handed swords (Deathbringer)
Balthier - Guns (Formalhaut)
Fran - Spears/Katanas (Dragon Whisker/Masamune)
Basch - Two-handed swords/Katanas/Axes (Save The Queen/Masamune/Golden Axe)
Ashe - One-handed swords (Deathbringer)
Penelo - Spears/Ninja Swords (Dragon Whisker/Orochi)

Completely off topic, but did anyone use scales? They just seemed so useless to me.
