KH Ruined FF characters

I don't think they did much harm but as far as doing good for the FF characters i was pretty dissapointed and weren't the gullwings just kind of tossed in there too?

The Gullwings were tossed in there as frigging Fairies!! That just ruined Paine for me. Think about it, would Paine really fly around as a frigging little Fairy? I think not. That doesn't seem to speak to her character that well. Maybe their roles weren't that bad but the thing that I think ruined them the most was the whole fairy thing. =/

There are 2 reasons Nomura put the FF characters in there.

1.basically they are there for supporting characters

2.Nomura wanted to show off the characters he designed(except Vivi)

Not really. At first, it was to attract the public to this game. It would probably sell well even if Final Fantasy characters were withdrawn; Disney is more than enough to make its name. Since Final Fantasy was popular at its time, there's no reason not to add them as cameos. It gives more depth to the storyline, and to increase its enjoyability.

Another example is Super Smash Brothers; Mario is a big name in the gaming industry, but lately newer characters starring as cameos...Solid Snake....have been introduced. Soul Calibur IV contains Star Wars characters which have absolutely nothing in common with the storyline of the SC series.

I didn't really mind the alterations of the characters, especially as they are nothing to do with the FF games, I quite liked them actually, although I wasn't amused about Aurons lack of specs AND those bloody gullwings, they irritated me enough in X-2 never mind making them as equally annoying in KHII

Still, the characters as said only really had cameo appearances anyway, I fail to se how they would ruin the FF characters in the slightest. They have absolutely no bearing on the characters/games anyway

You make a good point, but changing the personality, clothes, ect., just isn't cool imo.

I think they could have portayed Squall better and why exactly did they call him Leon in the first place. I still dont get that
yuffie didn't seem as Yuffie-y as she was in the orginal ff7 games
Aerith and cloud seemed fine. i thought his new cloak was kinda cool, but i do wish we'd seen more of Sephiroth in KH1

KH2- I liked all the charcters as they were there was a bit of an imporvement with the characters me thinks

I am trying to remember the reason by memory so i could be wrong a little bit. Basically when Squall lived in Radiant Garden, that was his name. Then when the heartless started taking over, he fled to Traverse Town. He was ashamed of what he did so he wanted to be called Leon to start a new life in a sense.

I know my post won't be as long as the other posts in this thread, but whatever. These are the KH version of the characters, not the actual FF versions that you play as, so that is why they are different.

There you have it. That's all that needs said, really. I view the FF characters who appear in KH to be completely different from the FF characters who appear in FF games.

KH didn't destroy the characters. They were simply portrayed differently.

I have to agree with the subject of this thread. While I understand the reasons behind the differences of the characters, it doesn't mean that I enjoyed it.

At first, when Kingdom Hearts was announced, I was really excited about seeing Final Fantasy characters brought back, as well as hearing their voices. But, then again, I was also a lot younger at the time, and was pretty giddy about anything related to Final Fantasy. But, later on, as I became a bit more critical of the games I played, I noticed a lot of things about Kingdom Hearts that I didn't enjoy...and most of it had to do with the Final Fantasy cameos.

I agree with most of what Tifa Rokkuhato said about the characters in the opening post. I think that Squall and Aerith were the biggest character-casualties, though. Squall as 'Leon' seemed a bit silly to me. While The_Oathkeeper raised a good point about Squall being older and having had time to mature...having him paired with Yuffie made very little sense. Again, I realize that Square wanted cameos from popular or well-liked characters, but why not have Squall partnered with another FF8 character, or paired with Rinoa? Cloud and Aerith have their scenes together, so it's arguable that they could have kept like-FF characters paired together.

As for Aerith, her voice in Kingdom Hearts II infuriates me. In general, I really hate all of the respawns of Aerith. I adored Aerith in FF7, but I disliked her in every other game she's appeared in afterward. Her character in FFVII was likable, funny, and realistic. She had a good personality, and was a believable character. Every version of her after that has been far too pure and holy. I just feel that Square milked her tragic end for all it was worth, and created an 'Angel Aerith' in her wake, who seems like nothing more than a sweet-sounding drone reading off psalms.

So, yes, I agree that Kingdom Hearts did ruin the characters, but, then again...most of the characters that appeared in the KH games were not my favorites. Had Quistis, Zidane, Kuja, Kefka, Rufus, Irvine, Laguna, and a few others appeared in the series, I may have been more of a happy camper. Either way, I just don't feel that 'It's Kingdom Hearts not Final Fantasy' isn't a justifiable answer for those borrowed characters having to have been tampered with.

i didnt see how they ruined the ff characters D: some people who never played ff before went to get ff games after playing kingdom hearts
