Is there anything which stands out to you? Do you keep it to yourself?

I’m going to sound really peculiar for saying that mine might be Euripides.

I hear some people ask: how do I have a song by an ancient Greek tragedian who has been dead since 406 BC on my iPod?
I hear others ask: who is Euripides?

I don’t mean an audio book. I mean music.
The song I have is only a short a reconstruction of fragments of Euripides’ Orestes. The ancient plays were accompanied by music, and Euripides has a particular reputation for creating lovely songs.

Luckily for us, a papyrus fragment was discovered which included notations, so some classics and musical scholars have attempted to reconstruct the part of the chorus’ song recorded in that.

It’s not exactly brilliant, but it is unfair to judge it taken out of the context of the entire play (where it would be integral to telling the story, and there would be other songs). Having said that, it is quite cool and is the closest we can get to listening to Euripides, which is in itself fairly cool if you're into that sort of thing.

What about you?

This song is pretty neat (listened to it on youtube) !
The discovery of the papyrus fragment that you mentioned is fascinating.

Mine are far less audible. These are the recordings of Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville (said to be the first recorded sounds - 1857)
I must admit that I rarely listen to them !

I have a few random solo tracks. Not really my taste in music or anything, they're very different actually. But it's nice sometimes.

Aqualung - Strange and beautiful.
Iron & Wine - Boy with a coin.
David Usher - Black black heart.

Not so much unusual, but I definitely have a few tracks that stand out from the rest. I grew to love a lot of older jazz/blues music so I have a few Nat King Cole songs that are kind of different from the more modern music I have on my iPod ("Smile" and "Unforgettable" are my favourites).

Hmm, difficult to pick a most unusual song, since some which are on my iPod that I would deem to be a bit weirdo, others might consider to be the height of good listening. Having said that, I think most would agree that some of Sufjan Stevens' music can be a little unusual, so I'm going to nominate his song They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhhh!. It makes for an interesting experience and if you happen to listen to it - you're welcome :wacky:

^ I have that on my iPod too. :D

Another thing I have on my iPod which I guess could be called unusual is Grim Grinning Ghosts. If people aren't aware (and why would many people be aware?), that's the song that the ghosts sing in The Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland / Disney World / etc.

I find it... Entertaining.

The idea that there is a retirement home of sorts for ghosts where they can hang out and socialise is quite endearing. I kind of like to think that the ghosts in the Haunted Hotel in FFVII playing chess are of the same sort. :D

One that I have, that's probably not really a song is United States of Whatever by Liam Lynch. I heard it in a Youtube video once, was amused and it's currently on my iPod.

Considering the majority of the music I listen to is a form of rock music or video game music, I do have some 80's pop that I used to hear when in the car with my mother as a kid. That said, the oddest thing I have is probably Live to Tell, by Madonna. I'm not at all a Madonna fan, but I really like how the music flows in this song.

To go with another extreme, I also have Hammer Smashed Face by Cannibal Corpse. I'm not a death/black metal fan, but this song is in Ace Ventura, so it deserves a spot.

Here’s another…

Hall of Heroes from the Medievil OST.

Not that having video game music on an iPod is at all unusual. I have lot on mine.

I’m putting this up here because it is more atmospheric and less melodic than most.

The track mostly consists of sound effects such as the clashing of cutlery, opening doors, flying arrows, ghostly idle chatter and the snarling of hounds interspersed with the haunting tunes of a long-dead bard. I love it as I like to close my eyes and imagine I’m in a haunted medieval banquet hall. This captures that atmosphere perfectly, as that is exactly what the Hall of Heroes is supposed to be.

^ That's funny, we were just talking about Baby Metal the other day. My husband really enjoys a few different kinds of metal but he really dislikes Baby Metal. I can't personally get into it either but I can understand the appeal. I didn't realize there were so many various kinds of metal until I met him!

I spent a short while thinking about this, hence my late post. My music is kind of all over the place if you were to put it all on one playlist. I think the one song that stood out the most compared to the rest would be Beauty Is Within Us by Scott Matthew from the Ghost in the Shell: SAC OST. Just very melancholic and depressing. Honestly I didn't even know what he was singing about until I actually sat down and listened/read the lyrics. I initially added it to my playlist because I liked the deep feeling that was being let off. Great episode this was from too, I really enjoyed the Ghost in the Shell series and the music.
