Do you play Triple Triad? What do you think of it? I've never bothered with it before, but since starting a new game today, I've spent more time playing the sodding card game than I have playing the actual game >_>

I've already gotten the Quistis card, and now I'm aiming to get the Seifer card. xD I need 20 Elnoyle cards for Lion Heart in disk 1 anyway, so might as well have some fun with it all along the way. xD

Although, I suspect this might change when the new rules are put into force. I love the basic rules :wacky:

Haha! I just start as well like few week ago, I got Zell card and Siren as well after got mine Qutis&Seifer xD

I think getting Siren is kinda B**** Too painful.. >.< Had to restart, do over, restart, over, over xD;;

As much as I LOVE this game, and that I might as well be the Queen of FFVIII..... I have NEVER once played Triple Triad. I never really felt like it, and besides, and I never quite understood it.... though then again... I was only 9 the one time i looked at the rules..... So I might play it on my next playthrough.

I actually spent a lot of time playing Triple Triad. I must admit it gets very addictive. I didn't start playing it until about halfway through the game but once I did, I couldn't stop.

I collected all of the cards and did the card queen quest as well. The basic rules are quite simplistic compared to some of the other rules you encounter as you travel. A lot of them can work both for you and against you (like that rule that allows the winner to take all of their opponents cards as opposed to only one).

A word of advice. Do NOT spread the random rule under any circumstances. -__-

How is everyone?

Yes the random rule will get you every time. It may seem un-annoying at first but it messes up the whole game. Its best to reset the game if random gets spread. Just save before you play in a town your unfamilar with.

Also me and my friend loved the game so much that when we did get all the cards, we found an online site to play triple triad.

I concur with this and also the Plus rule. Plus will make you think hard while playing, which will ultimately slow you down.

Anyways yes, I do enjoy Triple Triad, but I admit that I've played way too many hours of it. I have acquired every card in every play through of this game I've done. The basic strategy I use is that I like to lock down every corner with basically a card that can ideally be used on a corner and not sustain harm. Like using Seifer in the top left corner basically makes it impossible for the opponent to capture. Top left and top right corners are most important, considering the opponent almost always works from the top down. A suitable card to use on the upper right corner is hard to find early on, so I go with 2 top lefts. Seifer and Diablos are the 2 for this that you get early. Ifrit is a good bottom card, and it will capture almost anything early in the game. Zell is what I call a middle card because it's strong in all directions and can basically hold its own on the middle of the board. Quistis is what I call a good up-down card, as it has power at the top and bottom, with weak sides (even though Quistis does have a 6 on the right side I believe). Minimog, which is also a card you can get early on, is also an up-down card, which will basically get replaced by Quistis once you have her (which you do).

The cards I mentioned alone will be more than enough to dominate games in Disc 1. When you get the Seifer card from Cid, he will be the one you can get the Elnoyle cards from. He'll play a lot of level 5 cards, and once you get Seifer from him, your collection will be too much for him to beat. Best of luck in your quest for getting the Lionheart in Disc 1!

I played it extensively in one playthrough and dominated purely because I spent huge amounts of time abolishing most rules all over the world. Next time I playthrough I'll try to keep it a bit more open because with the top cards you really dominate if Open is the only rule in the world.

I love Triple Triad.
Best mini-game imo.
It's fun trying to turn monsters into cards,
and collecting them in card battles.
Plus you can refine extras into items.

I loved it on my first playthrough, and got a few handy cards. And as someone earlier said it was useful to modify some of them.

But on latter playthroughs, I had a go at the QoC quest etc, and the random/same/plus/wall rules all sucked. if you are going to try that, you need a lot of patience!

it's probaly the most addictive mini game I have ever played, once I start, I rarely just play one or 2 hands ¬.¬ I usually end up thinking, right...one more game and Il carry on....half an hour later Im still playing

I love it, Triple Triad is well my favourite mini game ever

The only rule that really pecks head though is plus, I hate that rule with a passion, its evil, it NEVER seems to work in my favour, I can NEVER remember how it works, I have to re-remid myself everytime I play.......

LOVED it. Everytime I restart FFVIII, I look forward to beating Ifrit, getting his card, then grabbing a few Bomb cards on my way out of the cave to start my card domination. The first time I ever played through VIII, I took great care to abolish the annoying rules, but for a real challenge, I didn't bother changing them to my favor at all the second time through.

Really fun mini game, it's just a shame they had to ruin the card mini game idea with FF IX's...*shudder*

Love the game, but I still hate the plus and combo stuff. Because I can't do math very well. Something they failed to teach me in elementary school. (Yes I blame my teacher, you would to if you were in my position)
Anyway, thats why I studied languages and always use a calculator. (thank god there is one in my electronic dictionary) And I don't want to have to use a calculator when playing FF, therefor I hate the plus rule.

Anyway, spent hours on end playing this game. Always try to get all the cards available. Even succeeded once. But the card queen is really a bi.. eh annoying female. So mostly I get a lot of them and then decide I would rather just finish the game quickly and start up something new.

I never understood the plus combo rules. It was confusing to me. If I would've understand it a little bit more then I will good at it and defeat the Card Queen, but I never knew how to combined the numbers and win the game.

The first time I played a game under the same rule, it screwed me over and I ended up losing my Seifer card. xD I freaked out when the opponent placed a card down and captured two of my cards at once with a combo D=

I freaked out too, cause they took my Seifer card D=< Luckily, they used it the next time I played them, and I won it back immediately >_>

I got kinda bored with it by the end of Disk 1 though, since my Seifer/Quistis/Zell/Ifrit/Angelo card setup was pretty boring, and I won everything easily =/ It's not fun if there's no challenge.

Aw, I love Plus (and Same)! Just another way to win cards to your side, but also a way for the enemy to do the same, I guess. But yeah, I wouldn't cry if I never saw Random or Elemental.

I love Triple Triad. It's a tie between this and Blitzball for favorite FF mini-game. There would be days when I wouldn't advance the story at all and just try to build up my deck. I didn't really pay attention during my first playthrough, but I was obsessed with getting rare cards and keeping good rules in effect on subsequent playthroughs. (For some reason I remember Trabia having awful rules.)

lol it beats blitzball TT was my fav ff mini game and then IX decided they wanted to try out cards .... that was horrible ... just keeping up with TT rules was a pain so i never completed all rare cards got a few face ones though

I quite enjoyed it. It was quite fun and I played from time to time. But I guess I am not really into mini games when I play a RPG. So I didn't really played THAT much.
Just from time to time in order to get some cards. Never really got any rare cards.
At least it is better then FFIX's card game, which I totally can't understand as it seems the battle result are almost random or something.

Aw, I love Plus

You're insane :gonk:

The plus rule was the only rule that saw my blood boil, I could never get the hang of it, my heart used to sink when I saw it pop up on the rules list

Trying to win Lagunas card still gives me nightmares :gonk:

It never worked in my favour EVER

Don't forget the Alexander card that is also at Lunar Base. These were the always the 2 cards that gave me the most issues. I'd first try to abolish a rule, which didn't always work my way, but if I could get rid of Plus, it would be the best! Getting rid of Random is good too.

But this certainly made my blood boil as well. Basically I would go get the Laguna card first. Then I'd save it and go get the Alexander card. In my experience, Alexander was actually the tougher card to get.

I'll also say that I didn't like getting the Edea card either. Again, the Plus rule -__-.
