I got to thinking the other day about good main characters and realized I can't think of that many. So, from any game you've ever played who are your favorite 3 main characters? Your answers here :D

I'm going to exclude FF characters because then I could never decide :gonk:

So from the limited amount of games I've played here are my favorites:

1.) Link from The Legend of Zelda- Who wouldn't put Link on their list! There's nothing not to like. Brave and green.

2.) Yuki from Grandia 3- I love how protective and brave he is, and he and Alfina are so sweet together :3 He's a typical ambitious teenager (never losing sight of his piloting dreams) but he's not boring or generic. He's a great character.

3.) Dart from The Legend of Dragoon. The Legend of Dragoon was the first video game I was ever introduced to, which is mainly why I like the game so much, including Dart. The only thing I dislike about him is that terrible red breastplate he wears. Yuck!

I also love Toan (Dark Cloud), and Fayt (Star Ocean) :ryan:

My top 3 favorite main characters are:

Squall Leonhart- From Final Fantasy VIII. He is a Gunblade specialist and a SeeD member from Balamb Garden. I like the way he was designed. His clothes and his weapon the Gunblade makes him look like a bad ass character. His personality is what makes him more interesting.

Jill Valentine- From Resident Evil: Director's Cut. She is the best female character that has appeared in a survival horror game. She is one of the members of the S.T.A.R.S. Team. She is playable in various Resident Evil games.

Alucard- From the Castlevania series. His design is well made with outstanding details. He is a vampire that hunts down bad guys and kills them. His characteristic and personality is what I like the most about him.

I actually dunno! Let's see.

Commander Shephard! Of course. Kinda an odd one considering the genre. I was always Paragon in the games because I'd feel bad if I didn't xD But she/he's just a likeable character which I suppose is just because you're choosing what they're doing. Sure you can be a complete arsehole to people when you go Renegade but that totally doesn't count!

Errrm...

Maybe... Arno from Assassin's Creed Unity? Even if he got a little edgy towards the end. Been a while so I can't really justify this answer with a specific reason. I just remember liking him!

Those are the only two that come to mind right now. I'm terribly indecisive when it comes to favourites anyway :shame:

Right off the top of my head:

Cloud Strife, Dante n Leon Scott Kennedy.

All badass protagonists from all my favourite games ie FFVII. DMC 3, RE 2.

Terra Branford - Tragic heroine, easily identifiable, likable, generally pleasant, and willing to do what must be done.

Jecht - Same as above, but definitely abrasive. He's kind of a jackass, which I guess I can identify with. He doesn't mince words, and has very little actual patience.

Exdeath - Does this really need explanation? A villain who wants nothing but nothingness.

Ramza Beoulve-Final Fantasy Tactics- His character was amazing! Great hero to a great game, he might of had the cheesy "always doing the right thing" trait going for him, but for the game that had such corruption in all areas of the government and church, it fit very well for him.

Sonic the Hedgehog- Ok anyone that was around when the Console war actually matters will know about Sonic vs Mario, well I had to be on Sonic's team, Sega was my first console and Sonic was the team I chose even after getting Nintendo.

Gizel Godwin - Suikoden V - As far as Enemies go, he was one of the most unique ones out there... Not even sure of his whole plan, not sure if he wanted to rule the kingdom or protect it or what he was fully thinking, but that made him one of my favorite villains around, wasn't all about killing everyone or ruling everything, no obvious motivation at all, just made him very curious.

1. Aqua from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Heroic, badass and kind.

2. BJ Blaskowitz from Wolfenstrin The New Order. The team behind the game took the poster boy for the generic fps guy, and managed to make him into a compelling and interesting character while keeping him as a badass super soldier.

3. Jak from Jak and Daxter. Jak wasn't that interesting in the first game but the sequels amde him fave faults along his virtues and gave him a good character arc, showing him overcome his internal demons and regaining his kinder personality traits without sacrificing his newly developed saviness and maturity.

Special mention. The Prince from the Sands Of Time trilogy. A naiive and spoiled prince's journey to a true king trough tragedies and hardship.
Another special mention. Garcia (F***ing) Hotspur from Shadows Of The Damned. A great protagonist for a strange but enjoyable game.

Love for BJ Blaskowitz makes me happy, they made him one bad motherfucker while still being interesting as hell. Great choice.

It's hard to narrow it down just to three choices but off the top of my head:

John Marston from Red Dead Redemption

Big Boss from MGS3 and all the other Metal Gears, MGS3 got me into the series and then I went back to see Solid Snake and while I like both Big Boss beats him by a little bit.

Trevor Phillips... Enough said.

And... All my characters are or were villains. Shit lol

Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia. pretty much the only protagonist i've ever seen in a game that wasn't a pussy. He didn't care about life or death, didn't give a shit about politics, did the things he thought was right and walked his own path with no one there to hold his hand. the dude just doesn't give a fuck. Not a single one.

I don't really tend to like protagonists or find them necessarily memorable. I guess as a runner up I'd have to say Gladiolus Amicitia for being that straightforward kind of guy who isn't afraid of even calling his king out on his bullshit.

The first one came instantly but honestly there just aren't that many ruthless or disciplined protagonists in stories. Like, if I had to throw another one in, it would probably be Kratos for all of his subterfuge and slaying of Kvar. Or Auron for playing similar roles in FFX's story, albeit cleared up a lot more quickly.

But honestly, animes do a better job of creating relatable and inspiring heroes or main characters. A lot of protagonists are simply too cheesy to be relatable and just talk wayyyyyyyyyy too much. I.e, I'm really trying to like Velvet Crowe from Namco-Bandai's newest Tales title, Tales of Berseria. She's pretty ruthless and uncompromising but at some point it just feels ridiculous.

Like, cool. you made a female main character. awesome! whatever. she is clever and conniving but it just feels trite and dull as hell after 10 hours of playing the game. She just drones on and on and on about her revenge like all the people in your facebook feed sharing the shit out of a meme for months on end until it's finally dead.

There are cooler environments to place characters like Velvet in - like the universe of Dishonored. The entire story of dishonored is a long fucking walk back to the Kaldwin Throne to take revenge on all of those who wronged you when surprise, the enemy of your enemy stops being your friend and becomes your enemy and you have to kill them too.

I mean Dragon Ball Z was pretty awesome when I was 10 years old but I think I'd kill myself before I sat down and watched the whole series again. I cannot stand storytelling like that anymore. I think the only thing I even like about DBZ anymore is Vegeta and Future Trunks lol

edit: ooooohhh i forgot about DmC

Dante for sure

what a badass

So Yuri, Dante, Gladiolus. There it is folks. Masculinity.
