Octopath Traveler shipped more than 1 Million copies worldwide

Octopath Traveler, Square Enix’s charming take on revitalizing the old school JRPG genre, is already a huge success. The exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch released not even a month ago and managed to surpass more than 1 million copies shipped around the globe.

Thanks to your incredible support, #OCTOPATHTRAVELER has now shipped 1 million units globally, including #NintendoSwitch #eShop downloads. The developers at Square Enix would like to thank you for making this possible.

Octopath Traveler could mean a renaissance for JRPGs of yore. The cute role-playing game managed to wow fans across the globe not only with its unique visual make-up but also with an interesting gameplay design. In Octopath Traveler, players experience the adventures of 8 individual characters, each with their own tale and abilities. You can choose which character to start as and will gradually acquire more members to your party. Thus Octopath, 8 paths.

First announced alongside the release of the Nintendo Switch. The immense media buzz Switch was garnering at the time, also led to Octopath Traveler getting a spot in the limelight. The timing couldn’t be any better really, since as a JRPG the game was aiming not only towards the hardcore niche of RPG fans but also with it’s aesthetic style which aims to combine the retro look of SNES Square JRPGs with bells and whistles of the modern gaming era.

Indeed, it was its looks which put Octopath Traveler on the map for many. An exclusive title on a still new console in a niche genre. It wasn’t quite certain how well the game would fare among gamers to be honest. But today, we learn that Square Enix’s experimental project became a huge hit.

A mere three weeks after the game’s release, Nintendo and Square Enix are celebrating an impressive 1 million copies shipped worldwide. It’s obviously not going to be the end of the story for Octopath Traveler, as its sales are still continuing and many more gamers are eager to get their hands on the game. Whether it’s waiting for a discount or finishing other games in their backlogs, we certainly expect the figure to rise.
