A while ago, I made the mistake of dropping down cash on a Dazzle video capture device which turned out to be nothing short of absolute garbage. Sure, it looks nice enough, but there's one major problem... it can't capture audio. Yes, there's an audio driver for it, but the Windows 7 driver doesn't work on Windows 7 (who would have guessed?) and, when streaming games such as Final Fantasy... You have to admit it, the sound and music is a very major part of the entire experience.

So, I know I'm going to have to spend more money on a better device, but I'm willing to do that if it means I can live stream games from my consoles (PS3, 360, and Wii) as well as my computer. I want an external capture card, since I know nothing about the inner workings of computers, and I'd like to use it on more than one computer. I've looked into the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle, but you need USB 3.0 for that, and I don't have that.

I'd also like to be able to hook the consoles into the TV using those red/white/yellow plugs, but also plug the TV into the box so I can live stream and use my TV to play it at the same time, since playing via my computer monitor doesn't work since there's usually lag between pressing a button on the controller, and my character moving on the screen.

So, to summarize: I'm looking for an external capture device for consoles and my computer that will allow me to hook my consoles up to my computer as well as my TV. It needs to have working video and audio.
 
I've looked into the Hauppauge HDPVR2 Gaming Edition and I heard positive reviews. Then again, I also heard positive reviews about the Dazzle. Does the Hauppauge work on Windows 7 64-bit, and would I be able to hook both my console and my TV into the box?
 
The Dazzle is what I use and it records sound fine. I use Windows 7 too, as well as on a ps3. Heck I recorded FF9 right through with it :hmmm:. I'm sure you just set it up wrong (to be blunt :wacky:).

I recommend the Dazzle for all your SD gaming needs :griin:.

The Hauppauge is meant to be a grand HD gaming recording device yes. Go for that :)
 
I use Dazzle. I plug it into my USB port, then plug my console into the appropriate color-coded slot. I downloaded the Windows 7 64-bit audio driver. It does not work. Audio doesn't work unless I do some forsaken work-around involving Virtual Audio Cable, which only works 50% of the time, and it has a chance to give me a blue screen, which it often does. I want a device that can work out-of-the-box without having to do all these work-arounds.
 
Jack Lias - did one use the splitters and stuff that makes the sound go to both the tele and the Dazzle?
This isn't only necessary for the Dazzle but a whole load of capture cards, so you know.
 
There are no splitters. I should point out that I know nothing about the finer side of streaming, but I've enjoyed doing it for years... when it actually works, that is. I only want to expand to console games since only streaming computer games can get a tad bit boring, for both the streamer as well as the viewer. There's only four ports on the Dazzle itself: white, red, and yellow slots for the console's cables, and an S-Video slot which neither my TV nor my computer seem to be able to make use of. I've plugged the consoles directly into the Dazzle. No extra hardware.

I should also point out that having the money I do, or lack thereof, I need to weigh very carefully when I buy another device. If it doesn't work, I am going to be royally screwed.
 
Ah, there's your problem. You need to buy some *cheap* extras. I'll give you the links here, but there are plenty of other places to buy them from etc if you need to:

You just chuck one of each of the red/white/yellow cables into one side of the splitter, and 1 part of the red/white/yellow cable from the console into the other part of the splitter. The other end of the splitters entirely go into the tv/scart.

Thank you, Green Blud. I just have to figure out where I can get those in Canada without buying them online. Also, getting those wouldn't solve the audio problem, would it? I may be able to hear audio, through my TV, but my viewers won't.
 
It would split the sound from your tv to your recording. It should work, but if it doesn't I apologise.
It SHOULD work.
 
I only ask because most programs that deal with video/audio either don't even detect that I have the audio driver installed (and I DO have the correct one installed), or if it shows it, I click on it and get some sort of error about being unable to use the driver or the driver not being valid, etc.
 
If they have any popular electronic stores around you, you should be able to buy them there. American examples would be Best Buy, Radio Shack and maybe even Walmart. Splitters are very cheap but come in a wide variety of different looks, including the one Greeny linked and something like this:

Also, this may seem like a stupid question, but could it be a wiring issue? Does the audio work on your TV? or tried rolling back to a stable driver?
