The magazine apparently has details on a massive, original action RPG thats being produced by Ryutaro Ichimura. The game uses the Unreal Engine and is being made for consoles, with Square Enix also looking at the possibility of releasing it on next generation platforms as well.

The game is being developed internally at Square Enix. Its core staff is around 35 people, with Square Enix planning on soon holding a large scale recruiting.

The magazine shows illustrations and character art. The person who's providing all this information says that it looks like the game is clearly targeting overseas markets.

As with the Dynasty Warriors and GT5 leaks, we're not totally sure if the source for this is legit, so we'd suggest waiting for a more official report, hopefully later in the day.

_____________________________

As reported here earlier today, Square Enix is working on an original action RPG project that makes use of the Unreal Engine. A few additional bits have surfaced from Famitsu's reveal feature.

The new game is being developed internally at Square Enix under the eye of Ryutaro Ichimura. Ichimura's exact role on the game is unclear, but he's usually a producer.

While the game goes unnamed in the magazine, it will not be a Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy game.

In comments shared with Famitsu, Ichimura reveals that he and the game's staff traveled the world for the past two years and conducted user surveys to research art and gameplay direction for the game. They've finalized the basics.

Famitsu shows image art for what appears to be a main character, heroine, rival and boss. No solid details are provided, so these are just guesses.

It looks like Famitsu's reveal article is meant to be part of a staff solicitation to join the current core team of 35. Square Enix is looking for planners, programmers (network, 3D graphics, physics, animation) and designers (art, motion, VFX, background modeling and character modeling).

We'll likely get official announcement of the project and the job solicitation later this week.

I reserve judgment on this.

On one hand they are throwing out the word western again.

On the other hand, the last time they made a game with that in mind, we got Nier, which was phenomenal. So it could be good.

^ Square-Enix didn't develop Nier, they merely published it, Nier was developed by Cavia.

I'm not holding my breath for this title, fair play the guy did a great job with Dragon Quest IX but I cannot find any other game he has acted as 'producer', nor can I imagine that developing an NDS title is remotely like developing a console title. Last time Square-Enix left the Unreal Engine in the hands of someone unexperienced it produced the disaster that was The Last Remnant.

I know Cavia created Nier, but you would be naive to believe that a publisher has no say in what goes into the a game they are funding.

Square-Enix published Call of Duty in Japan. Chances of Square-Enix having ANY say in the development? None. Publishing a game doesn't mean they're financing the development of it, it's more or less financing the advertising and marketing. In no way shape or form can Square-Enix take credit for Nier.

Agreed. NieR is far too good for Square Enix to have had any hand in its development.

In other news...this doesn't qualify as news. I couldn't give the slightest fuck about the engine that it's going to run on. I want DETAILS. What's the premise? How is it going to play? Who is composing the OST? What are the characters like? It doesn't matter what engine it runs on. I just want to know if I should be mildly interested or throw my hands up in disgust as Square Enix make yet another game that is all style and no substance. It's the one thing they can actually do these days.
