Our friends group for Fitbit has launched! You're all welcome to join in the fun. We will do contests of some kind, there will likely be forums related prizes, but don't worry about it being super-hardcore. All we're doing is hanging out and motivating each other to get out of the chair every once in a while.

My new fitbit is charging but I'll have this set up soon! I've been wanting one for a few years now and I was already thinking of grabbing one earlier this week anyway since our work was doing something similar to Amazon Prime Day.

My husband showed me how his work's doing 'Fitness Challenge' for their workers and it really made me want to try this out. It's not fitbit though but something similar and they can unlock achievements, etc.

Broke A Sweat: "You unlocked this achievement (worth 200 points) by logging 3 hours (180 minutes) of activity."
Super Strength: "You unlocked this achievement (worth 200 points) by logging 90 mins of strength training."


I don't know how the fitbit challenge or groups work since I still have to look at the app and everything, but I'm pretty stoked about this.

You can unlock achievements with fitbit too. I've had a few different ones. I have a charge 2 now. It's nice though I think the heart rate monitor is a bit suspect.

I’m in now! Last place, but hey, this will motivate me to work out and go to the gym more often. I’ve been slacking. 😐

So how do you guys propose we do the Leaderbord and how to tie it in with rewards? I see “Steps”, “Distance”, and “Active Minutes”. Where are the calories burned? 🤔

Shall we split into two teams and motivate each other that way? Highest criteria accumulated overall by the group per month gets CT/GP? Or maybe do that on occasion for mini-events? Either way works.

I haven’t looked into achievements and challenges yet. Ideas on how to go about this?

Well membership-wise, we're a little off from forming teams for now. I can trigger friend events that are 1-day, 2-day, 5-day totals. Or there are distance goals, the first to X-number of steps etc. Generally the group tracks a monthly totals for the three categories you mentioned. To get more information than that, we would have to set privacy settings to friends or everyone.
 
Joined up! Haven’t had mine very long either and forgot to wear it like half the time so this month is awful, haha. OH WELL. I’m totally gonna win August, though, just you wait. 😎

Distance Goals sounds neat, @sly So this would be more of an individual effort vs group...? How many x amount of steps are you thinking? Also, what are friend events and how would that work as an example?

How about we start the challenges on August then? With 6 of us so far, one of our challenges would be to reach 800,000 steps (group overall) before September. We meet that goal and we get 2 GP + 5 CT each. We snooze, we lose!

As a bonus challenge, if we reach 5,000 Active Minutes (group overall) we all get an extra 3 GP + 3 CT each. This would be more challenging since it requires a bit more strenuous activity than just walking.

I don’t know if that sounds realistic but judging from the leaderboard stats now (and considering a few of us are new to fitbits), it should be doable if we all pull our weight lol.
 
The distance challenges range between 24,000 and 62,500 steps. They're challenges based on real life hiking trails or races. The challenge is issued to the friends you select. Then everyone that accepts will be in a "race" with each other to get to the goal number. The event ends when someone gets to the finish.

1, 2, and 5 day challenges are just highest total wins.

I'll update our August goals/rewards in the op.
 
Got it, sounds fun actually. If we do the 5 day distance challenge that can be a a mini weekly challenge for ourselves. Maybe not 62,500 steps though...that’s a lot for 5 days. 😵 Try 30,000...?

I’m assuming this isn’t your typical “walk around the neighborhood or park” challenge then? How do we submit proof that we were on a hiking trail? Take snapshots of scenery? 🤔

62,500 is the supposed length of one of the trails in Yosemite. So you're "walking the trail" in a figurative way.

When Fil gets around to accepting friend requests, I'll trigger something easy and I think you'll get a better understanding of how it works.

Congrats, Tia! :D That was fun, even though I didn’t manage to finish at 3rd! I would’ve been able to today, but I guess there was a time limit I did not know about and it ended 5 a.m. this morning. :O The past couple days I’ve been stuck at home rearranging my living room and that took for-eveeeer.

/done making excuses.

I’ll hand out the prizes shortly.

I can’t wait for the group effort challenge. Is Ringo joining!? If so, we should increase the monthly goal to 1,000,000 steps. :awesome: I’m sure we can do it!

Finally ceasing my lazyness and posting! Yee, I'm joining. Down to help set goals with the power of my overnight walking and dank steps! Glad I got to start right at the beginning of the month. Looking forward to seeing how much we walk as a group.

Hit your daily goal on Saturday 8/4, be it 3,000 or 20,000. Whatever your personal goal is, try to bother getting up to doing something! I give you permission to be lazy on Sunday.
