New Final Fantasy? Microsoft WTF?
With the up coming release of Blue Dragon. Microsoft's new Japanese style rpg, i decided to find out more about this surprising move from Gates & crew....
I was terribly shocked to discover that microsoft had employed figures that were previously closely associated with Square-Square Enix, the legend that is Nobuo Uematsu, Akira Toriyama-the genius behind Dragon Ball and the design of Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger, and also Hironobu Sakaguchi-main man, closely involved with most FF titles....
What is microsoft upto?
Isn't this essentially a new Final Fantasy?
Or is this just a cheap way for microsoft to compete in the Japanese rpg market?
Hmm your thoughts and opinions about this would be interesting.....

I dont see it as a new Final Fantasy and Im sure its creators wouldnt join Microsoft if they are planning to make a new Final Fantasy under a different name. It would be going agaisnt what theyve been creating for years. i say they are just giving Microsoft a helping hand.

I suppose so, although i have a biased view as i generally dislike Microsoft, so i'm not too happy to see the legendary trio working with Microsoft on a new game...I'll still have a go on it though

Sweet, I'll have to look into this one. I don't plan on buying a PS3 until a very, very long time. They can take both their $600 price and even the cheaper $500 one and shove it up their ass. Come back when its cheaper. Unfortunately I'll be giving up any FF series released for the system until such a time as it comes down to a reasonable price. But it's good to know that I'll still have the chance to play a good RPG from the same minds that gave us the FF games.
Do I expect it to be a cheap FF knockoff? I sure hope not. But I'd expect that there could be influences from the games with those three collaborating together. I'll have to read into it myself before I could decide whether it'd be a knockoff.

Microsoft picked up Mistwalker a few years ago and to be honest I think it is a good move by Microsoft. Xbox and Xbox 360 mostly seem to be a console aimed at the western side of the continent and doesn't have that much versatility in their library of video games. This is a good move for them to broaden their genres and appeal to others and who best to get than the likes of Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu?
Honestly, I have never really been that interested in Microsoft consoles as it really just seemed like it was full of FPS/TPS type games which I don't mind but they aren't the top of my favourite genres. The X360 is beginning to tempt me with games like Lost Odyssey and Cry On. X360 remains a slight possibility for me to get but that would be after I get a PS3.
About the games being like Final Fantasy, the only one I can see that resemblance would by Lost Oddysey, although I don't know much about its gameplay. Blue Dragon doesn't resemble Final Fantasy at all. There is also Cry On that I haven't seen any images about but I've seen that being described as an "Action RPG" which does not sound like Final Fantasy at all.

It will be very interesting to see what Blue Dragon will be like, of course the 'big' trio wouldn't want to just make a Final Fantasy clone, therfore they will strive to make some new innovations in the genre....but hey, we'll just have to wait and see....
