One Small Problem

One Small Problem

It's been a long while now since Donna Noble was the Doctor's newest companion aboard the TARDIS. But ever since the Doctor was witness to the deaths of the hostess and Sky aboard a cruiser touring the planet Midnight, he hasn't really been the same. Eager to cheer him up, Donna takes him to a place where things aren't so clear.

The Castle of Doom holds many mysteries, which the Doctor and Donna about to discover for themselves. But when the pair are shrunk down to six inches, they must find a way to get back to normal. There's one important rule here. Don't get squashed!

The trailer to the story can be found here. It's obviously Doctor Who, so some fans may like this one. Please enjoy!

Chapter 1: Castle For Doomed People

“Come on, we should get going,” said Donna Noble, as she motioned her head in the direction of the TARDIS that stood in front of them.

“I know we should, but I’m still processing the thought that I nearly got thrown out by the entire cabin and could have dissolved into nothingness,” said the Doctor, wondering out loud. “Well … I’ve been in countless near death experiences, but this one definitely takes the biscuit.”

It had been a mere hour since the Doctor had returned from the disastrous flight across Midnight that had seen two people die – one had been Sky Silvestry and the other the hostess, whose name he hadn’t learned because no one had even asked for it. He was mourning for the pair of them and Donna didn’t know how he could ease his pain. Maybe this was what it was like all the time for him, losing people that he didn’t know very well, yet knew he had to save them …

So instead of moping around like he was, she rose to her feet and put her hands on her hips. “You know what you need? You need something fun to do. We need to go somewhere fun! All we’ve ever faced lately is danger and all that rubbish! Come on, it should be a bit of a laugh, right?”

“Fun?” the Doctor inquired. He rose to his feet. “Four people on that shuttle died and you’re telling me to have fun? I’ve just had to argue with the management to close this place down for the past fifty minutes! Now you tell me to have fun?” His voice was angry and irritated, so Donna decided to back off. She sat down and then so did he. A few moments later, a grin crept upon his face. “Wait a minute … fun? What did you have in mind, Donna Noble?”

That’s the Doctor I remember, beamed Donna, thinking to herself. “Well … we could do anything, I guess. They don’t call your spaceship a time machine for nothing, right? Well, not just a time machine … but it travels through space, right?” The Doctor nodded, looking eager to know where this was going. “So then I was thinking a way to cheer you up and also a way to figure something out that’s been bugging me for years.”

“What could possibly be bugging you?”

“There’s this castle in Wales. Newport, I think. It’s near Cardiff … it’s some old castle that’s quite famous, but nobody knows the full reason why it’s famous. They called it the Castle of Doom hundreds of years ago. I went there a couple of times with my school friends on school trips. Funny, isn’t it? We used to call it for the Castle For Doomed People. Not that anyone’s found anything doomed about it.”

“Ohhh, that castle.”

“You know the legend behind it?” Donna’s face was full of hope.

The Doctor, however, had to disappoint. “Nope, sorry! I’ve always wanted to go there and see what the big fuss was about.” He smiled. “Guess it couldn’t hurt, right?”

“Now that’s the Doctor talking,” said Donna, rising to her feet again and following him back to the TARDIS. “So we can just take a tour and then sneak off when we feel like it?”

“Of course! You humans aren’t going to find out these things by yourselves,” grinned the Doctor, only to receive a playful cold glare from his companion.

Inside the TARDIS, everything was as normal as it could be and nothing was out of the ordinary. Well, Donna still thought that the ship being bigger on the inside always out of the ordinary. She found it lucky that out of all the chances in the world, she met the Doctor for a second time. Not many people had that chance, she had learnt. She knew he travelled a lot – probably the only reason for that.

The Doctor tossed his long brown coat to the side and then sat down in front of the screen. “Right!” he said. “So off to Newport we go then, eh? Let’s just hope we don’t run into any trouble this time and actually get down to some serious mystery solving!”

“We could really need Agatha Christie right now …” murmured Donna.

“Donna, we messed with history before. Best not to go down there again.”

“Yeah right … of course! But … aww, we could’ve needed her! Then again, it’d be hard to explain with the TARDIS, the time travel and everything else …”

And then suddenly, she fell back. The TARDIS was now in motion and up to her usual work of travelling. The Doctor laughed out loudly, as he watched Donna make feeble attempts to grab on to something in case she hit any part of her body hard on the floor.

“Come on! Where’s your sense of fun?” he said, as the TARDIS kept going backwards and forwards. Donna glared at him blankly. “I thought you wanted me to lighten up, so here it is! Now isn’t it time you did the same?”

Then when it had only started, it finished. Donna was relieved to say the least. The Doctor helped her back on to her feet.

“Well, that didn’t take long, did it?” he smiled, as they were about to head off into what they believed what was Newport.

However, something else stopped them.

A big BANG made the two jump and suddenly, the controls caught on fire. The Doctor darted over there as soon as he could with Donna following in his wake. He looked at the screen seeing that the ship had been burnt out and was now having to take time to recover. Donna grabbed the nearest fire extinguisher and put out the flames.

“Thanks for that, least I know you’re something useful in here,” said the Doctor, although not jokingly.

“Oi! You better shut that trap before I aim this at you,” she warned, pointing it at him. When he backed off and continued to look at the screen, she put down the fire extinguisher and returned to where he was. “So she’s overheated or something like that? Why did that happen?”

“I don’t know, the only reason I can come up with is the fact that she needs some good rest!” the Doctor said loudly, looking up at the core. “She must have gotten us here with great difficulty. Why don’t we leave her alone for a bit and see that castle you were talking about, eh?”

*

Apparently, the castle wasn’t far from where they had landed. Ok, so maybe the word apparently was the wrong word to choose for this, according to the Doctor and his brilliant mind. It had been a mere ten minute walk up the road and then they found it secluded on a large hill, very noticeable and set apart from the rest of Newport, considering that it stood out on top of that hill.

When they reached the front doors, a guide was already there waiting for them. They weren’t the only ones here to tour the castle, of course, as Donna wasn’t surprised at all by the vast amounts of tourists here. Of all the places in Newport in the past twenty years, the Castle of Doom had proved to be a hit with the tourists. The Doctor eyed how many people were here. Perhaps there were about fifty here? Sixty?

Despite that, it proved good for him whenever he felt like wandering off.

“Now if you would all like to follow me,” said the tour guide, who then looked suspiciously at the Doctor and Donna. He halted them when everyone started going in. “I’m sorry, I don’t recall you identifying yourselves. We have a strict guest list here –”

“Guest list? Since when was there a guest list?” cut in Donna. “I’ve been here plenty of times to know that there’s no guest list!”

“That’s fine, I got my documentation here to prove ourselves,” said the Doctor, pulling out the infamous telepathic paper.

“Oh, I’m terribly sorry about the confusion!” he apologised immediately. “Please, Miss Noble and Doctor Smith –”

“Um, just call me the Doctor. Everyone else I know does.”

“Miss Noble, Doctor, please come through. The tour will begin shortly.”

As the Doctor and Donna entered through the doors, the host had a look on his face. The kind of look that usually predicted trouble beyond the horizon …

*

The Doctor was clearly impressed when he walked into the castle, which was what Donna was hoping for. His eyes widened when he saw the statues of the many lords and ladies of the castle, the old fashioned lights hung up above in the ceiling and the ceiling itself was painted with little baby angels flying in the sky. Donna motioned towards the knights of armour, which stood there holding their swords and being perfectly still.

Next, the Doctor looked to the floor. The flooring was old in itself as well with decorated stone bricks. The red carpet was just ahead, which led upstairs. However, the tour guide wasn’t taking them in that direction. He closed the doors behind him and then walked up to the group of visitors. Then suddenly, a man in rich clothes appeared.

“Welcome to the Castle of Doom!” he beamed. “I am Lord Davies and I will be your host for this afternoon. Now please … if you could follow me into the main living area.”

“Lord Davies?” murmured the Doctor to Donna.

She shrugged her shoulders. “He’s been here for years … he doesn’t look a day older when you look at him.” Donna then shuddered. “Wait a minute! Do you think he could be like … immortal or something like that?”

“Could be, there might be some curse behind this castle,” observed the Doctor. “I mean … look at the tapestry hung up on the wall. It’s obviously moved and I’m the only one that’s noticed. Well, that’s because I’m the cleverest man in this castle.”

“All right, enough with you being clever and all,” Donna rolled her eyes, as they joined the crowd. “If you’re so smart, then let’s get to the bottom of this mystery.”

“Why don’t you tell me everything you know? That’s a start.”

“I only know that people have come out of here and then … one or two of them have always been missing. I just thought that they got lost in the castle. But what if they were lost forever? What if they never left here?”

“Good point, I’d love to know what Lord Davies has got to say about that one.”

“Lord Davies? Heck, he’s always managed to cover it up. He’s very powerful, that bloke, well connected … got loads of contacts from above. Well, least that’s what I’ve heard every time I’m in Newport.”

Now the crowd, including the Doctor and Donna, came into the main living area. The Doctor was quick to notice it was a seventeenth century living area. He was somewhat fascinated by the ornaments all around the room. He watched Lord Davies closely, as he began to explain the castle’s history.

“This castle was used as residence for the kings and queens of the British Empire,” Lord Davies was saying, “and this was how it came to be respected. It was back then that there were many rumours that this castle was haunted and people would become doomed. This is why it is now known as the Castle of Doom.” He chuckled a little, which caused the Doctor to listen more. “The rumours still go on today. You still hear about people losing their way in the castle … to never return to the light of day again. As far as the castle security is concerned, there have been no people losing their way in here. But the story, in itself, is very curious indeed. It is a shame, I think, that we will never be able to go back in time and discover the meaning of this.”

You can’t, but I can, thought the Doctor and turned to Donna. “I’m really finding this interesting. I’ve never thought about coming here anytime in my life and here we are now because of you! Why didn’t I ever think of coming here before? This castle’s brilliant!”

“I see someone is enthusiastic about my family’s legacy,” said Lord Davies, looking towards the Doctor. “And who might you be, good sir?”

“I’m enthusiastic indeed!” he nodded and walked up to the lord to shake his hand. “Hi, my name’s the Doctor.”

“You are a doctor, hmmm? Of what exactly, might I ask?”

“Oh, a doctor of everything …”

“And who is this stunning young lady with you?” He looked at Donna.

“Donna Noble,” Donna said, shaking his hand. “I’ve been here loads of times, it’s really amazing this place. I’ve always dreamt I lived here.”

“Donna Noble, hmmm? Ah yes, I remember seeing you come here when you were just a child!” laughed Lord Davies. He looked towards the tour guide. “I am sorry, Nigel, but I cannot go on with this tour. I just realised something … I need to take my medicine.”

“Certainly, my lord,” nodded Nigel, the tour guide, bowing his head low. “If you’d all like to follow me, please …”

“Are you two related perhaps? Married?” Lord Davies gestured to the Doctor and Donna.

“No,” they both said together. They’d gotten so used to this by now. “Friends.”

“So I see,” nodded Lord Davies, looking somewhat disappointed. “Well, excuse me. I must be going to take my medication. Do have a good day.” And with that, he hurried off leaving a curious Doctor and Donna.

“What do you think he was up to then?” asked the Doctor as if he read her mind.

“He didn’t sound friendly,” said Donna. “He was perhaps a bit too friendly.”

The Doctor shrugged. “Oh well, let’s see if we can catch up with him later. Come on, there’s still a mystery to solve here! Let’s see if we can solve it and be famous.”

Here I was thinking he likes not to be seen, grinned Donna and crossed her arms.

But the more she watched the Doctor leave, the more she felt obliged to go and explore on her own. Lord Davies had said he had seen her when he was a child. The mystery was intriguing … who would know more about it than him, the lord himself? He was letting on to more than he knew, anyway. He was more suspicious this time around …

So whilst she saw the Doctor move along with the crowd, Donna went in the direction where Lord Davies was going. She followed him towards his office taking care to watch out for security if there really was any. She passed through the front hall and then into the hallways, where she saw him stop almost immediately. Although his office was only at the end of the corridor, he had stopped halfway down.

Donna watched eagerly. What is the dumbo up to now?

He turned around to see if anyone was there and she quickly hid behind a suit of armour. Barely moments later, Donna saw his suspicions fade away and he turned to the book bookshelf he was stood in front of. He pulled a book out of the shelf and then it turned around in a full turn. Even though this was common in films, it had Donna’s mouth literally dropping.

“Easiest trick in the book!” she murmured. “Gotcha now, Lord Davies …”

She did exactly the same pulling out the red book on the third shelf on the bookshelf and chuckled quietly to herself when she did the one hundred and eighty degree turn. However, things were only about to get worse by what she saw.

This room, unlike the others, wasn’t old. It looked like it had been refurbished several times in its lifetime. The room looked like a lab with technology beaming all around it. Several computers were manually working for some purpose. And then there was one thing that caught Donna’s eye.

The painting on the wall hung up above the computers was one of Lord Davies, which dated back to the 1600s.

“No way!” whispered Donna. “That can’t be right!”

“Too right it is, Donna Noble!” yelled Lord Davies, as he appeared out of nowhere.

Before she even had time to react, many flashing lights were instantly and suddenly switched on. Donna couldn’t move. She couldn’t move any part of her body. Well, except for her mouth to breathe her eyes, in which they looked towards the lord of the castle, who laughed at her.

“This is the end of the line for you!” he said, crossing his arms. Donna now noticed he was no longer wearing his royal clothes he had been wearing before, but modern everyday clothes. “I thought that someone would be questioning my authority around here, but I never thought that it would be you!”

“What do you want?” cried Donna, feeling overwhelmed by the light and felt her vision going blurrier by the minute.

“Why should I tell you what I want?” Lord Davies questioned. “Besides, your Doctor friend seems intelligent himself. Maybe … he’ll want to find you as soon as he knows that you’re gone?” Donna now looked scared because she was blacking out. “Don’t worry; you’ll be reunited with your husband soon.”

“HE IS NOT MY –” she began to say.

But she was unable to finish the sentence, as she felt the weird sensation of everything going smaller and everything going turning black …

Next Time . . .

The first thing that Donna smelt was the floorboards. Wait … the floorboards? She felt confused. Why would she smell that? She thought that she'd smell her own perfume. But she couldn't. Great … she'd have to make a mental note to bring it along with her next time. When she sat up, Donna rubbed her face, although her eyes weren't exactly open yet. She yawned loudly, wishing that she could have just gone back to sleep.

She expected to be back on the TARDIS, but she wasn't. When Donna opened her eyes, a big shock hit her. She screamed, but no one could hear her. The room was much bigger than usual. There was a pin next to her, but it was as big as or even bigger than her! She looked up at the ceiling. It was far too high in the sky to even reach. Something was seriously wrong.

"It was a complete success, I tell you," said Nigel, the tour guide, who was stood by Lord Davies at the computer.

Were they bigger than her? Donna heard them turning around, so she went to hide behind the corner.

"All I need to do is wait for the Doctor to come and rescue his wife," grinned Lord Davies, as he crossed his arms with a satisfied smile. "There is something about that man … that makes him entirely different to every other victim I've ever seen. No one has ever dared question my castle."

"He's not my husband and I'm not his wife!" murmured Donna.

She knew what they had done because this wasn't a dream, especially since her head was throbbing badly. Lord Davies had somehow shrunk her to six inches. Well, it wasn't exactly how she'd like to come back to the castle, but …

I had half of this done before, so I finished the other half today. Thanks to those who have read and I consider this story a little comfort from the series finale when Donna forgot all about the Doctor. Another reason? Just because I LOVE Donna Noble's character.

Chapter 2: Alive, But Standing Small

The first thing that Donna smelt was the floorboards. Wait … the floorboards? She felt confused. Why would she smell that? She thought that she’d smell her own perfume. But she couldn’t. Great … she’d have to make a mental note to bring it along with her next time. When she sat up, Donna rubbed her face, although her eyes weren’t exactly open yet. She yawned loudly, wishing that she could have just gone back to sleep.

She expected to be on the TARDIS, but she wasn’t.

“It was a complete success, I tell you,” said Nigel, the tour guide, who was stood by Lord Davies at the computer.

Were they bigger than her? Donna heard them turning around, so she went to hide behind the corner.

“All I need to do is wait for the Doctor to come and rescue his wife,” grinned Lord Davies, as he crossed his arms with a satisfied smile. “There is something about that man … that makes him entirely different to every other victim I’ve ever seen. No one has ever dared question my castle.”

“He’s not my husband and I’m not his wife!” murmured Donna.

She knew what they had done because this wasn’t a dream, especially since her head was throbbing badly. Lord Davies had somehow shrunk her to six inches. Well, it wasn’t exactly how she’d like to come back to the castle, but …

“She’s awake!” said Nigel loudly, as he and Lord Davies now looked down at the six inched Donna Noble peeping around the corner. “She’s unlike the other victims, who arise after several hours of unconsciousness. Perhaps this one is much more than we anticipated, my lord?”

Donna didn’t know how to react. Can’t exactly scream, can I? It really doesn’t matter if I’ve been told I have a big gob, anyway. And with that, she saw Nigel walking towards her, which made her shudder. His footsteps sounded so loud and his evil face leering over her made the Daleks look like angels. Ok … I am SO ready to wake up now! There’s no chance this bleeding Bigfoot is gonna take me! Barely moments before Nigel could get close; Donna made a run for it.

“She’s running away?” Lord Davies’s voice boomed loudly. “This’ll be fun. A game of cat and mouse … oh, how I love to torture my victims before they fall and beg for their deaths!”

There was no turning back for Donna. She sprinted as fast as her legs would take her. Now that she thought about it, maybe her time with the Doctor had been good. Before, she wouldn’t have been able to fun this fast – no wonder he was so skinny and invincible! Question was – would Donna be able to escape the devious Nigel and the enigmatic Lord Davies? She had to run on just about any other adventure that she and the Doctor would go on.

“Help … me … Doctor!” she gasped, as she continued to run from Nigel, who was walking around and searching for her frantically. He didn’t have much running to do, unlike her. She came to a halt when she found a small hole in the wall. With no other option, Donna darted right into it and stopped moving to breathe. “I swear … this is definitely an SOS …”

“It appears our friend has escaped, my lord,” Nigel said, his tone sounding like a dog whimpering for sympathy.

“Then go and find her before you share the same fate as her!” yelled Lord Davies. “And while you’re at it, you snivelling dog … ensure that our guests’ absences are thoroughly explained to the other tourists. We don’t want the papers sticking their noses where they don’t belong, do we?”

Nigel nodded, but Donna saw his terrified look. She watched him run away and then she glanced up at Lord Davies. It felt strange knowing that he really was behind all the disappearances for so many years. The rumours were actually true. This was no ordinary man. Lord Davies just so happened to be the culprit … and if she didn’t move really soon, then Donna would face some kind of death. Well, at least according to the lord who had described this as “a game of cat and mouse”.

So what now? Donna knew that she couldn’t hang around here for much longer or else she’d be found. She didn’t even want to think about what kind of horrible fate awaited her … she pushed on inside the wall hoping to discover a way to find the Doctor. It made her wonder where he was and if he was still at his original height.

I would say, ‘I’m going to kill you, mate!’ but I can’t because it’s all my fault that I’m in this mess in the first place, she thought, careful to walk down the thin plank of wood leading to a small tunnel just ahead that looked like it led into another wall. He’s probably wondering where I am, though … or maybe he forgot about me. Oh, brilliant! I’m going to kill myself laughing when I tell Gramps about my time as a six inched thinking git.

Donna ventured into the tunnel hoping that she would be alone. She kept on debating whether the Doctor was looking for her or if he’d forgotten her altogether. But then again, he wouldn’t do that to her … would he? He certainly hadn’t forgotten her in their time together so far. Because the Doctor had showed her so many things and wonders in all of space and time, Donna had decided she would spend the rest of her life travelling with him. Who wouldn’t with all those things to discover?

But that wasn’t important right now. Finding the Doctor was! Without him, there’d be no hope of her getting back to her original size. So as she carried on walking through the wall tunnel, Donna jumped when the lights went off. She realised that the light in the room outside the wall had been turned off. All was silent now and Donna couldn’t help, but feel so afraid. She shouldn’t have been really because she wanted to appear strong and brave. But being so small in this blackness made her feel smaller than she was right now …

I’ve got to stay strong, thought Donna, as her loud breathing was all she could hear in the darkness. Try not to panic and … oh, God! I really NEED him right now. That spaceman better get his act together to come collect me!

When she carried on in the darkness being careful to walk slowly and listen to everything all around her, Donna heard a faint moaning noise just ahead. Apart from mice, nothing could have possibly got inside here, right? Maybe bugs too, now that she really thought about it … the moaning continued and it frightened Donna to hell.

What could she do?

She searched for any weapon in her pockets and then found a lighter. How great it was to find something she didn’t even use, yet it was her best shot at fighting whatever could want her. To be honest, Donna didn’t even know how she had gotten hold of the lighter. Maybe the nice spa guy had dropped it back at Midnight and it slipped into her jacket by accident … well, at least it could serve itself for a use now.

“Whoever or whatever you are, I’ve got a lighter and it breathes fire!” she warned. “And I’m not afraid to use it, so you better come out now, you bleeding earthworm!”

At times like these when it threatened her life or was scary, Donna really didn’t know how she could be so … sarcastic.

“Ugh … my head … who … who’s that?”

Donna gasped. “DOCTOR!”

She found him after walking a bit farther holding the lighter in her hand and the fire burning brightly from it. Like her, the Doctor had shrunk to six inches as well! Or actually maybe he was a bit bigger than her because he was slightly taller in their real heights, anyway. He was slumped against the wall and looked like he’d been hit on the head because he looked around his surroundings as if he was confused.

“Donna? Donna? Ouch! That’s my waist! I’m not full of muscle, you know?” complained the Doctor, as he felt Donna wrap her arms around him to give him a hug. But when she wouldn’t let go and loosened her grip on him, he really did feel confused. “Donna? Why aren’t you letting go? Donna?”

“The worst thing has happened,” muttered Donna, so that only he could hear her. “It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to me and you’re the only one that can put us right back to our real height.”

The Doctor examined her and his eyes widened. “What the … Donna Noble! You’re the same size, too! Well, maybe you’re six inches and I’m seven … but, Donna!” He rose to his feet like a little child getting ready to go out and play. “You got zapped, too! This is brilliant! How fascinating and exciting that we both ended up at this castle to get zapped down to six inches! Ohhh yes!” But his smile soon faded when he noticed Donna’s extremely furious expression written across her face. “What? What’s wrong? Did I say something out of line?”

“You idiot!” she shouted, slapping him in the face. He was shocked to have received that, but he couldn’t say that he would go not slapped by his companion throughout the time they were travelling together. “I’ve been shrunk down to six inches and all you can do is say how fascinating it is?”

For once, the Doctor looked serious.

“Ok,” he said, recovering from the slap and gulped. “Let’s get down to business then. How did we get shrunk down to six inches and end up meeting again? I don’t really remember much … all I know is that I found something very interesting about Lord Davies’s statue and that tour guide knocked me out … I woke up here. God knows how I got away … I’m a genius.”

“You must have ran away from him, he’s called Nigel,” guessed Donna. “I remember leaving you … and following Lord Davies. He has one of those bookcases that opens if you pull one particular book.” The Doctor raised an eyebrow with a typical-old-movie-style-thing look. “I followed him and then he shrunk me down with some light thingy.” She scowled at this point. “I never thought that he was behind all of this, but now we know that! We have to stop him before he shrinks anyone else!”

And then the Doctor burst out laughing loudly.

“WHAT’S SO FUNNY?” she yelled.

“Nothing, nothing … just except from the fact that we’re SIX INCHES TALL!” shouted the Doctor, pointing out the obvious. “You make it sound so easy, Donna Noble, but you know that better than I do that a mystery takes more than ratting out the culprit. If he has a machine shrinking people to this size, then those people disappearing from the rumours were people like us …”

“… And what happened to them?” asked Donna. “Those people are still missing to this day. The disappearances date back to hundreds of years ago. Surely, they can’t still be here, right?”

The Doctor shrugged his shoulders. “Could be … maybe the shrink ray could have caused them to be immortal, but only while they were small. Or perhaps Lord Davies and his friend got them in the end. Whatever they did to the victims, it must have been painful. But why would he do this? Why would he want to shrink people? This doesn’t make any sense!”

“Well, when things don’t make any sense, you usually get out your sonic screwdriver and point it around the place,” she remarked, giggling at this point. “So c’mon … let’s see it then.”

“That’s the thing, Donna.” He looked up at her. “I don’t know where it is!”

“WHAT?”

“The sonic screwdriver’s gone missing! It was the first thing I looked for and it’s usually in my suit! It’s not there and now it’s gone!”

“But … maybe you dropped it or …”

“Nah, I wouldn’t have knowing me. Look at me, am I dumb?”

“Doesn’t matter now, spaceman. Without your sonic screwdriver, we might as well be watching the entire universe be in danger from aliens …”

“Donna,” said the Doctor.

“Yes?” said Donna.

“For heaven’s sake, PLEASE shut up.”

Next Time . . .

The Doctor scanned the room for any intruders. When there weren’t any, he started looking at the floorboards carefully for any sign of his sonic screwdriver. After all, it could have shrunk too just like he and Donna had done. Whilst he was off doing that, Donna felt cold. She shivered, despite the fact that she was wearing her brown leather coat to keep her warm. She took out her mobile phone from her pocket and glanced at it carefully.

There was a signal!

“Doctor!” she called.

“What is it now?” moaned the Doctor, making sure he didn’t lose concentration on his mission at hand. “So far, you’ve been nothing, but trouble! We almost got ate by a beetle, you jumped by the sight of a big spider, which you shouldn’t really be scared at because you never jumped when you were bigger, and you keep swearing that you hear Lord Davies in the distance when he’s not really there!”

“Shut your trap for a minute and let me speak already! I’ve got a signal on my phone!”

“A signal? Really? Donna, you’re amazing!”

“You changed your tune,” Donna rolled her eyes, as she handed him her phone.
