Rift (RP)
Rift
Advanced technology.
Supernatural powers.
Parallel universes.
Ancient magic.
Time travel.
"What does all of this mean? These things are widely known as myths, made up stories from the very heart of the imagination. But what if was all true? What if these things appeared in our modern day lives without any warning? How would our lives be affected? Could man make the right choice in using these? Would it lead to great benefit? Or perhaps would it lead to greed and selfishness?"
That was what Professor Patrick Evans asked at his lectures many years ago. But now there is something sinister happening in the background. Across the world, these five very things are happening. Advanced technology has suddenly been found, people are emerging with supernatural powers, parallel universes are making signs of appearing, ancient magic has been demonstrated and time travel has very well become possible. But Professor Evans died a mere two years ago. If these five things, or let alone one of them, fall into the wrong hands, then perhaps the fate of the world is doomed.
The world is changing itself in the year 2008. The rift, as it is described, is occurring. Several ordinary individuals are about to find themselves colliding with one or more of these things. They scattered across the world. They could change the fate of humanity. They could control the destiny of the universe itself. But their morality is unclear. Will they use these five special gifts for doing some good? Or will their inner and dark desires emerge? Only time can tell ...
Dawn Turner glanced at her surroundings. Nothing more than a few forest trees and a clear path were ahead of her. Nothing out of the ordinary, of course. Or at least for now, anyway. She next looked at her watch. Six o'clock in English time. Right. It was time for her to get back home or else her mum and dad would be only worrying about her rather than doing their usual scolding of staying out late. But what was the need to be told what to do? Dawn felt she could be trusted and besides! It was nearing summer. What was the need to come home early when it was lighter now? Typical Mum and Dad, she decided and flicked through the songs on her iPod. They probably want to go out and want me to look after Spark again. Spark was her pet dog that she had since was ten years old. Five years had gone by and he was literally her best friend. How could she ever forget the black white patch on his face that almost looked like a lightning bolt? That was one reason enough to call him Sparky.
She carried on through the forest being so familiar with the path that she was taking. However, something unexpected came. There was another path! Dawn found herself at a crossroads. This was quite strange. She could've sworn that this hadn't been here before ... maybe she was hallucinating? Maybe netball practice had drained a lot out of her. After all, it would be their big championship game in a week and she needed to be focused on that. "We so need a championship after two years of getting beaten," she muttered under her breath. So instead of taking the unknown path, Dawn took her usual road ignoring what she thought she had just seen with her eyes. Little did she know, that path was quite special indeed ... a path that had once led her down to finding all about Professor Patrick Evans. But there were some things to be explained about that matter. One, he talked a lot of nonsense. And two, he was now dead. Yet lately, she couldn't shake off this eerie feeling that someone was watching her.

[eee I totally didn't notice that you put this up DX]
Aya put his bright pink hair in the usual ponytail and tacked differently shaped, brightly colored hairclips on his bangs.
"How do I look, Shinya?" he asked, turning to his bandmate who was attacking his bleach blond hair with hairspray and a curling iron. Shinya glanced at him sideways. "Cute. Mind holding the iron for me?" was the reply. Aya cheerily held the curling iron that had a thick chunk of Shinya's hair wrapped around it while Shinya brushed the section under it. Soon, his hair was very wavy and straight at the same time. "Where's Saga?" Aya asked. He was now getting into his actual costume, which was a pink dress that ended mid-thigh and white stockings with neon pink fishnets over them and tall pink platform shoes. "Who knows?" Shinya replied, lacing up his shiny black boots. His outfit was very dark compared to what Aya wore. It was a black jacket with no shirt underneath and black leather pants with tall shiny black platform boots.
"The show's going to start in a hour. We have to find him. Can you please go find Sugizo and ask him to find Saga?" Aya asked, putting on his fake long pink eyelashes and covering his eyes in pink eye makeup.
"Oh fine. I'll be back." Shinya left the dressing room in his costume and went to go find their manager Sugizo while Aya fished around in his pink handbag for his equally pink phone that was covered in rhinestones. He called Saga's mobile, and got no reply. He left a message telling Saga to call back as soon as he could and that the show was going to start in a hour and that if he didn't show up when it started he would look really bad. Ten minutes later, a tall man with long black hair tied back into a messy bun carrying a clipboard rushed in. "Is Saga in here?" he asked.
Aya shook his head.
"Damnit! Where could he have gone?"
"I don't know! I just called him! And-"
"Don't get upset right before the kickstart of your tour. Save that for much later. Right now we have to go find Saga."
"You're right Sugizo." Aya said, sniffling. He hugged Sugizo. "Go on stage and do the Para Para for a while. Do anything to keep the crowd happy while Shinya and I look for Saga."
"But I want to go! Make Shinya entertain the crowd." Aya protested fiercely.
"Fine. I want your phone on your person at all times. Got that? You're a sweet looking lolita in Yakuza territory. The last thing we need is another reason for the press to follow us around." Sugizo replied just as fiercely.
Aya kissed him on the cheek then went out into the street to look for his bandmate. He knew the Shinjuku area of Tokyo well enough not to get totally lost, but this time, when he stepped out of the concert hall, he had little of an idea where he was. Boldly he went forward into the busy sidewalks, calling out his bandmate's name with every step he took.

((omg...no offense...but that was incredibly homo. Not sure if that was the point tho..))
Sam hopped into is black convertable Cadillac. "Woah...that was a long day of work..." He thought. Sam had just gotten off of a job for a friend. He got paid 100 dollars and all he had to do was throw an oddly humanly shaped zipped up bag into a river. The movement and noises didn't help him much. After being told to never mention the job, he was paid and left. He drove down the road for a while, deciding whether to go to his cheap ass apartment or hang with some friends. "Today's been a long day...might as well just go to sleep..." Sam pulled into the driveway and went up the elevator. He walked to his apartment. "42 B...this is it!" Pulling open the door, he walked inside. Right into his employer's house. "WHAT THE HELL?!"
"Hey Sam, you get rid of the...package?" The friend asked.
"Yeah man...didn't we have this conversation already?"
"No. Dude, get off the drugs. Anyway, I'm gonna pay you, but you gotta promise to NEVER mention this job."
"Sure dude, whatever."
Sam got his money and put it in his wallet, right next to the other 100 dollars he found in there. "Wierd....this wallet was empty before the job..."
Sam hopped into is black convertable Cadillac. "Woah...that was a long day of work... Wierd though, I remember that exact conversation with Vinnie.... Must be tired....either that, or Deja Vu is real." Professor Evans came to mind for a second. "No...couldn't be that...." "SHUT UP! You gave up on that stuff two years ago." He thought. "It's over...just go home, and sleep."

It was a beautiful morning outside. The sun was shining brightly on the Sander estate. Ray stood out on the balcony of the east end of the building. His hands gripped the railing tightly as he sorted through his thoughts.
His mind was going a million places at once.
"Will they publish my article?""What if I had been able to work with Professor Evans?""Space and time are two separate concepts, completely independant of each other.""I can't believe my device worked.""Will they take me seriously?""Why am I even doing this?""Professor Evans, guide me."
"Sir."
The voice came from inside his room. It was Donavon, Ray's butler. He stood there waiting for Ray to turn around. In his hand was an envelope.
"This just came in the mail for you."
"Thank you Donavon."
He stepped into the room and took the envelope. Ray normally did not look at his mail, but this one had the answer to some of the questions that plagued his mind. The butler stood waiting to hear what it said.
After looking it over for a few moments he read a line out loud for Donavon to hear.
"We regret to say that we are unable to print your article under the research section of our magazine. We will however make it the main story in Science Fiction Today. You will recieve a check in two weeks, right after the magazine goes out to the public. We thank you for your business." Ray let out a deep sigh. "At least it's something. You may go now Donavon."
The butler took a brief bow and left Ray alone once more.

Walking through the door and slamming her bag on the floor, Dawn literally collapsed on to the sofa. "How was netball practice?" Elizabeth Turner, her mother, called from the kitchen. "Fine, just tiring, I guess," she replied, as she flicked on the TV. There wasn't really anything at this time, so she decided to flick to the news on ITV1. Wonder if there's anyone getting killed or attacked lately? Everything's been so quiet lately. Dawn had found that suspicious, but of course, she was the only one. Whilst her mum would be more interested in gossip at work, her dad was slightly different. Simon Turner was quiet the spark in the family, who Dawn obviously thought she had inherited her brightness from. He was in fact a website developer for the local council and also a technician. He always seemed mystified and fascinated by the news. But Professor Evans' immediate death two years ago was the most gripping storyline he had ever encountered. Which was why Dawn had decided to step away and let the police do the work.
Besides, there was enough to worry about. She was in her second last year at high school and she was still trying to get her grades up as well as trying to win a netball championship for the school before she left. Half an hour later, Dawn found herself bouncing her basketball outside in the garden and shooting hoops. So basketball might not have been her sport that she specialised in, but shooting the hoops was helping her enough, anyway. She was the key figure that kept the team together, the one that would encourage them to play at their best, the one that ... her train of thought was immediately cut off. Dawn could hear a rustling in the bushes. She had tried ignoring them at first, but they kept getting louder and louder only creating curiosity in her mind. As Dawn came closer to the rustling, she noticed a pair of dark red eyes. "It is beginning," hissed a voice. But the voice wasn't human; it was telepathic. "The five objects are coming. Are you ready for them?" Dawn jumped back and then before she knew it, the voice was gone.

[note: Aya is supposed to be like that :] ]
Aya fearlessly wandered the streets, desperately looking for his lost band mate. A few kilometers later, he saw a tall boy with chunky black and red hair in a fight with three very large men. "Saga!" Aya called fearfully. The boy looked in his direction. "Run Aya! They'll get you-" Saga was slugged in the stomach by one of the large men.
Aya couldn't move, even if he wanted to. He was too scared to even think. He just stood there in silent terror as his best friend and love was beaten to a pulp by mindless yakuza thugs. But as if some entity took over his body, he opened his mouth and shouted out words in a language he had no idea even existed. And somewhere in this world ancient magics lost to the mists of time exist-Aya shook his head. Why was he reminded of Professor Evans at a time like this? He didn't understand. He blinked then saw that the men that were beating Saga senseless were gone. Saga himself was laying on the sidewalk, his face cut and one of his eyes swollen shut. He bled all over the place, and Aya feared that he might die. He crept to his bandmate and took his large hand into his small one. Again, he said words he hadn't spoken before and all of Saga's wounds were healed.
"Wow Aya, what the hell is going on?" Saga asked, getting up. Aya stayed quiet, still thinking of Professor Evan's lecture about ancient magic. "Dude, are you still thinking about that Professor Evans whackjob? He's dead and buried two years now. Nothing he's said has come true. Let's go back to the concert hall before Sugizo has a heart attack."
Aya smiled at him in his usual cheery way and hand in hand they went back to the concert hall.

Sam couldn't get to sleep. "Mmph...GAH!" He looked at the clock. "only 2:30?!" He had only been asleep for an hour. "Maybe I should take a sleeping pill..." He took a little blue pill and went back to sleep. After what felt like an hour though, he woke up again. "Oh my god, this is bull!" The clock only said 12:00. "Must've been a power outage...." Sam knew this was a lie, since the clock was battery run, but since he was trying to stop thinking of Professor Evans, anything related to that guy would become a coincidence. Sam went back to sleep, knowing that in 2 and a half hours, he would probably be awake again, get pissed and take a little blue sleeping pill.

"God damn it! Not again!"
Ray stood in the dark basement of the Sander estate. This was his "lab" where he made his studies on time and space. Here he created devices that helped with his understanding of these two concepts. Here is where they always disapeared.
Everytime that he felt he was close to getting one of them to work, it would vanish. He could not figure how. He alone had access to this room. Not even Donavon could enter if he tried. The security that he had placed on it should keep everything protected, and the cameras could never catch any thief.
His latest device was the only one that he had been able to complete. It was one that would allow the wielder to bend space. This would allow people to make places come to them while they stood still. He had been able to successfully travel two meters this way.
Now it was gone, and someone had the prototype to the most adavance piece of technology known to man.
For a moment Ray thought of maybe calling the police, but he knew they would do nothing. No one ever believed him other than Donavon.
Then a voice called out to him in a whisper. "This is your doing."
"WHO'S THERE?!"
Ray began to look around frantically in search of its source, but he was alone. No one was there. No one could have even been there. Ray sat down, his face full of stress. Was he losing his mind?

She couldn't have possibly been imagining things, right? That wasn't like her. As Dawn lay in bed later that night dwelling on what she had heard before, she couldn't help, but feel that she was being watched. Every now and again, she glanced at the window thinking that there was a dark shadow there stalking her. But when she looked closer, there was no actual shadow there. This is too weird, she thought, as she gazed at the picture frames on her desk of her with her family and her netball teammates. Just when I thought my life was getting really intense, something like THIS has to happen. Dawn sat up in her bed. She couldn't sleep. The storm outside was getting worse. Speaking of storms, she hated them. She had always been afraid of them since she was a little girl after nearly getting struck by lightning when walking home one night with her dad. But Simon and Elizabeth Turner were both asleep. They had work during the day. Dawn felt somewhat alone in her fear and tried to sleep, but her eyes wouldn't shut.
Then the voice was heard again. "You're thinking about what will happen ..." it whispered; there wasn't any clue or hint to give away if it was male or female. Dawn fell out of bed almost immediately and shivered in fear. That voice scared her so much. What was going on? These kind of things weren't meant to happen to her! She was just a normal girl that wanted to do well in her academic studies and in netball, so that she could get a scholarship to a very high status college somewhere in the country. But all of this didn't seem to matter, at least not to the voice. "There is so much to fear," the voice continued to say. Those same pair of dark red eyes appeared again, but came from the cupboard. As the lightning continued to flash without warning, Dawn rose to her feet and walked towards where the eyes were. But when she got there, there was ... nothing. All of this ... and it was nothing? Then without warning, Simon rushed into the room. "Dawn, are you all right? I heard you falling out of bed!" he exclaimed.
