1.) Well I guess I'm kind of biased, but I'd have to say Roleplay Games. Especially in a genre where the storyline is important, it's crucial to have music that helps draw in the player to the happenings in the game. In fighting games like Street Fighter or racing games like Burnout, it isn't nearly as important to have an epic soundtrack. Basically, you can just get any old midi or rock 'n' roll track and throw it on there and have it be good. In RPGs, orchestral tunes and ballads are very important to the game's success, though I suppose RPGs could still be successful with a mediocre soundtrack (ala Legend of Dragoon xD).
2.) Since music basically dictates my life (band and choir), I consider music in roleplaying games to be very important. For band ensembles and solo piano, I arrange and perform Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts music all of the time, so I guess that can show how much I am attached to the music. The plots in RPGs are already very gripping, so the music only adds to the depth and intensity of the situations.
If the music wasn't as good, I don't think I would take the plot/character development as seriously. My attention span already sucks, so I think it would be very difficult to stay interested in a game whose soundtrack is craptastic.
Yah.
