Why are more people excited about Versus than FFXIII?

Apologies if a thread like this has already been made, but this section is relatively dead >.<

Anyways, for a while now, I've been hearing people say how they're waiting for Versus and want to play that more than FFXIII, even before they played FFXIII.

Why? What is it about Versus that makes it epically more appealing right off the bat than FFXIII?

I actually am excited for Versus myself for a couple of reasons, but it's still pretty much on par with my excitement for FFXIII, so I'm having a hard time seeing what Versus has over FFXIII, you know?

Your thoughts?

For me, the game just looks more interesting. Nomura has also stated that he wants to bring back older gameplay elements, such as the addition of the old world map/overworld sequence.

The trailers for the game have also looked more interesting than FFXIII's as well. However, FFXIII was disappointing, so I'm pretty sure this will be too. I've kind of lost faith in the guys at SE.

They haven't made a good FF since FFIX.

There are quite a few reasons. The more petty reason includes the fact that Versus is a PS3 exclusive. Some people hate the fact that FFXIII is multiplatform and suddenly divert attention at Versus as one of the symbols of what the PS3 still has up its sleeve.

More moderate reasons are basically what we have seen so far. It promises a darker story - the darkest yet. This does sound really fascinating, especially for those who don't like how FFXIII 's story looks so far and/or were disappointed by FFXII's story.

Nomura also promises a Kingdom Hearts style battle system. Some people just prefer action style battle systems than more turned based ones - at least that's what they see FFXIII as being. It also appeals to people who enjoy the KH games in general.

Also - it promises a world map, a nostalgic aspect of FF that has been missed.

I think a lot of the fans are getting more and more disappointed in XIII as more information is released and are looking forward to Versus because it offers some more "classic" elements to the game.

probably cuz FFXIII is released in japan and they beat the game,now they want versus 13,theres somewhat another reason,how the ganme looks,it will have gore,violence,themes,its the first M ff game,its a whole new experience.

Personally, from what I've seen there isn't anywhere near the same hype as what there was with the release of Final Fantasy XIII coming up. I think it's died down, especially with the the Sony exclusive list so far this year - it doesn't seem to be on many peoples "most wanted" list any more, though this is down to lack of general information over the course of several months. However, it's the dark theme it has that gets me, the world map etc, don't particularly bother me much, I just want a rich, dark storyline and I'll be satisfied well and truly.

Funny how your opinion directly coincides with the introduction of voice acting in FF games.... although I do believe FFX was a good game and had the best battle system including how the Aeons were incorporated into the game.

I felt FFX lacked the seriousness we westerners prefer in a band-of-heroes save the world plot and alot of it was down to the appauling voice acting coupled with cringe worthy scripting. FF Versus looks to be a darker take on the approach used in every FF since it's conception, but there are similarities with some of the most popular FF titles in that not only does it move away from the 'spritely teens save world' but it drives the story on the nostalgic 'reluctant hero' role that worked so well for Square in previous iterations.

I'm too poor to own both consoles (lol) so I won't get the chance to play FF Versus but to be honest I don't have the time to play both and my allegiance will always be with the numbered series.

Its an action RPG like kingdom hearts except its going to be more mature and less kid oriented. Action RPGs rule!

Nomura has never made a game that wasn't awesome and Epic, i'm sure FF vs. 13 will be awesome and a strong contender for GOTY.

ff13 looks generic to me barely better graphics and the reason i won't buy this 1st day is God of War 3 baby !!!!!!, FF vs. 13 looks like the real next Final Fantasy.

kinda like how i didn't liked ff11 so after playing FF10 the next true FF game for me was FF12.

I've heard rumors that Versus has been cancelled. I haven't been keeping up to date with new information, so I wasn't sure what to make of it when I heard. Seems my brother's full of crap... thankfully.

FFXIII Versus is being developed by the team behind Kingdom Hearts. Since I strongly prefer Kingdom Hearts and its style of play to Final Fantasy (especially the disappointing FF games that have been coming out as of late), I'm looking forward to a game that plays more like a Kingdom Hearts title. The trailers make the game look utterly badass, and the dark/modern atmosphere is appealing. Much more appealing than anything I saw from FFXIII leading up to its release...and certainly more appealing than anything I saw after its release.
