some interesting replies. It seems we dont know exactly 100% what Versus is.

Dissidia is the fighting game for the PSP, that's a fact. Versus. Hmmm. It seems like you guys could be right, its an RPG set in the same world.

It's just this 'Versus' bit leads me to think you're fighting against something really important, but what?

I don't know enough about FFXIII to guess.

The bottom line is just this: i hope FFXIII is as good as FFVII was when it became the first FF on a Playstation 1 console.

I, Myself, Assume that by 'Versus' they suggest that the character is in direct opposition of opinion or alignment of the main character of the first game, effectively 'changing direction' while not being a prequel or sequel set in the same world.

Thus, I believe FFXII' main entry layout would be like this...

FFXIII - Lightning is the protagonist, the guy in Versus, or one of his allies, is the main antagonist.

FFXIII Versus - The guy is the protagonist, so you see his views from a different perspective than in XIII, Lightning or another of the main characters of XIII is the main antagonist.

If they do these games in that format, I may very well look into the games, because it suggests more character and storyline development than anything post-FFIX. However, if it's just another weird game where there's absolutely no relation between the two, I'd probably blow it off just as easily as I did X and XI.

Although the setting for XIII and Versus is set in the same world, I'm pretty sure that their stories do not intertwine throughout the game. I read that in multiple places, so.

For further confirmation, look at the description for this FFF sub-forum:

[ Versus Although scheduled to be released for the PS3, it is said that this will have little to do with the "original" FF13. ]

Well, if it's the same world, yet isn't a sequel, or prequel or have anything AT ALL to do with FFXIII My conclusion is that it's either an 'alternate dimension' story, in which case, 'Versus' means absolutely nothing, or the game will be crap, because they'd have no way of explaining it otherwise.

Because if it's in the same world, yet not in the past or future, it should happen at the same time, however... If it's set at the same time in the same world, events of the first game should have some impact on Versus, thus making it related.

i see exactly what you mean, i thought Versus would be just the opposite of what goes on in FFXIII. But after thinking about it, it cant be. because;

in every FF game you go through the game and beat that main rival at the end, blah blah blah and game is over. you've beat it.

so you cant have two games running into each other with the storyline because the 'Versus' game wouldn't know the actions you took in FFXIII and say you beat the main bad guy in FFXIII.... then in Versus you'd be playing as him again, it'd be wrong to play as the main bad guy you've just beaten.

Versus is like what everyone has said, it's FF13 with a different story and main character and a different battle system.

@Rydia, that is aload of crap i'm afraid. No-one knows what characters are going to be in it, only the main characters have been released and not even the full details of them are released yet, so don't believe what people tell you, I can pretty much guarantee Rinoa wont be in it.

i kinda heard the same thing... FFXIII will tell the story of the goverment trying to control the land and the crystals while VERSUS will be the story of the protectors of the crystal(which are the royals) striving to protect the old ways

something like that

The fighting game that has been mentioned is called Disiddia: Final Fantasy, it will have Garland, Light Warrior, Paladin Cecil and other much less known FF characters as well as a few high profile characters to sell the game.

It's also meant to be a PSP exclusive too!

i sure hope Versus will be like Kingdom Hearts! that would be awesome... so am i correct that it is a completely different story and not just an expansion?
